Tuesday Brief
General Superintendent Max Edwards & Judy
January 6, 2026 It’s January of 2026!! To a thoroughly midwestern kid born in a sleepy little Iowa town in the 1950’s, I can only imagine that thinking about the year 2026 seemed like science fiction … Buck Rogers kind of stuff. I know, I know - - most of you reading this don’t know anything about Buck Rogers. Buck was synonymous with ‘fantastic’ and ‘futuristic’. Well, here we are. And while our electronics and technological advances have certainly expanded, many things have not changed at all. People are still hungry for something real and a sense of value and belonging. What they may not realize is that they are searching for a relationship with their creator, which brings meaning, connection and inclusion. Evil is a constant foe, and Satan is still in the business of lying to anyone who will listen. He claims life has no real meaning, and no hope. He is constantly ‘roaming about, seeking whom he may devour’ with these, and other lies. Truly, no matter how modern the world becomes, the primary problem remains, and that problem is sin. We are separated from God because of our selfish hearts, which produce selfish acts and lead us away from real love and real life. The Evangelical Methodist Church was founded 80 years ago by men and women who were committed to standing against the tide of sin, the flesh, and the devil. Our Creator God is love, and we know that He sent His Only Son, Jesus Christ to make a way for His wayward children to return to Him. I have made a resolution for 2026 - - a decision I invite you to join me in. I am committing to share my personal story of coming to life in Christ with at least one person every month in 2026. It doesn’t have to be a sermon, or a saga … but I plan to share a testimony that my life completely changed when I surrendered to Jesus. If a longer conversation develops, praise the Lord. If not, I will pray for the seed to find some good soil. I may not have the kind of earth-shattering gift of evangelism that I feel some of my friends have, but I can give my faith away with the simple confidence that the Holy Spirit can do more with little than my imagination can produce.
