February 20, 2024 Rev. Wade and I have a dear mutual friend in Rev. Brian Hammond. Brian has known Scott for many years, and I had the privilege of meeting him at the Nazarene General Assembly last June. Rev. Pastor Scott has a passion for the church. He especially desires to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ shine brightly in our personal lives as well as in our collective witness. Besides his weekly podcast, Rev. Wade is an author of devotional books, an inspirational speaker, and a licensed Nazarene Evangelist. In preparation for Scott’s interview with me, he asked if I would share what I would hope for the church of Jesus Christ in 2024. After several weeks of thought and prayer leading up to that conversation, I felt clarity in seven specific messages that I’d love the church to hear and embrace, and will be expounding a bit on each of them over the next few weeks: 1. In a time when nearly everything IS changing ... The true Gospel is NOT changing. 2. Our culture seems to celebrate compromise ... God’s people must not compromise. 3. In many churches, the worship wars are over... But let’s not worship “worship”. 4. In a culture that is growing darker and darker... God’s WORD is the only source of light. 5. In a church world with far too many ‘Lone Rangers’ ... Accountable relationships are crucial. 6. If we hope to preach transformation in Christ ... We must be transformed people. 7. We will never be truly fruitful for the KING ... Unless we are intimate with the KING.
