The EMC’s Own Haggard School of Ministry & the Heritage Learning Center The Haggard School of Ministry (HSOM) is named after Dr. Cornelius P. Haggard, the 13th President of Azusa Pacific College, now Azusa Pacific University. Dr. Haggard was a highly respected academician, theologian, and a key leader in the earliest days of the Evangelical Methodist Church. It was his commitment to theological education and ministry that the EMC sought to memorialize in the naming of the Haggard School of Ministry. The Haggard School was successfully launched in August of 2014 for both the training of men and women as Deacons, Local Preachers, and Ordained Elders. It is not a 'brick and mortar' institution, but is a well-managed, and extremely affordable alternative to traditional college and/or graduate level Christian education. It operates under the supervision of the General Board of Ministerial Education and is responsible for overseeing curriculum development, securing and approving academically qualified faculty, and for approving the operational policies including the setting of tuition and fees. The mission of HSOM is to prepare and equip candidates for ministry in the Evangelical Methodist Church for service to the kingdom of God. When undergraduate and/or graduate theological education is not possible, the Haggard School of Ministry provides quality ministerial education to candidates seeking to answer God’s call to Christian service.
The Heritage Learning Center (HLC) The HLC is a relatively new expansion to our EMC Headquarters complex that is designed to be a flexible space with enough resident technology to host both in-person and online seminars. Click Here to read more about the HLC on our website. While you are there you can also find a short informative video about it. The name “Heritage” is appropriate as we honor the labor of many who gave themselves to the Lord to establish the Evangelical Methodist Church. You, as an EMC member, have the opportunity to honor a loved one, pastor, superintendent, family member or other leader who impacted your spiritual life through an honorary gift to the Heritage Learning Center & Haggard School.
There are 4 levels for giving to the Heritage Learning Center: Level One: $10,000 gift in memory or honor of someone. Level One giving will have a laser portrait sketch displayed. Level Two: $2,500 gift in memory or honor. Level Two giving will have names inscribed on a special displayed plague. Level Three: $500 gift in memory or honor. Level Three giving will have names engraved on a brass plate. Churches and family members have an opportunity to honor someone who influenced them with the Gospel. Level Four: Any amount will be appreciated and recognized. All donations will be receipted, and duly recorded. It has been a unique year for everyone. The magazine has also made adjustments and had a social media presence this year known as, “Connect NOW”. We chose to publish some of the “Connect NOW” articles in this Winter 2020 edition but we also wanted to help you prepare for the approaching Christmas season. Advent, that season of hopeful waiting, is about to start. So we chose to address how it would be celebrated in this new time of waiting. We are waiting for normalcy, waiting for a vaccine, waiting for loved ones to recover or visit. Personally, Advent is a very special time for me, it reminds me of someone who once loved me so incredibly much that he left his home and came to save me, when I didn’t even know I needed it. I knew I would have to anticipate differently, celebrate differently. I’m not a fan of different. So this edition attempts to help us do that very thing, differently. I hope you find the articles and suggestions helpful as you go about finding your way of doing things differently.
Falling Apart...
or Falling Into Place?
Honestly, I am still struggling but I am not alone in this time, neither are you. I pray we all find our way through Advent, watching and listening with greater hope than ever before, not hoping as the world does but as people who know the source of all hope. I recently saw a quote saying we are all innkeepers, deciding if there is room in our hearts, build an addition if you need to, but make room.

Our Amplified Motivational Preaching Institute has been rescheduled - “AMP2021" We are very excited to announce that we have rescheduled the Preaching Institute that had to be postponed from March of 2020. Instead of it being AMP2020, it will obviously be AMP2021. It will be hosted by the Superintendents at the Heritage Learning Center at our Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. The dates are June 9-11 of 2021. Its schedule will dovetail with the Indiana Journey (June 11-12), which will make it convenient to attend both AMP2021 and the Indiana Gathering. “AMP” stands for Amplified Motivational Preaching. The institute will be an in-person seminar designed to inspire and equip those individuals who feel called to preaching ministry. It will begin on Wednesday afternoon, June 9th, and end on Friday, June 11th before lunchtime. The cost of registration (which will include two evening meals) will be $150 before April 1st, and $175 after that “early-bird” deadline.
