Haileybury provides a unique environment in which pupils can live, learn and grow. We are committed to excellence both in and outside the classroom and our world class facilities and inspirational setting offer the ideal backdrop for academic endeavour and personal development.

At the heart of Haileybury is a deeply supportive community. Our dedicated and experienced team of staff go above and beyond to ensure that each pupil feels known, valued and understood. Whether in lessons, Houses or while taking part in a wide variety of co-curricular pursuits, pupils are challenged and supported in equal measure.

Kindness, empathy, integrity and a sense of service to others are woven into daily life at Haileybury. We celebrate individuality while fostering a shared sense of purpose and respect. These strong relationships and shared values give pupils the foundation they need to aim high and achieve their goals.

Our broad curriculum encourages pupils to discover their interests, pursue their passions and develop the skills essential for future success. We nurture intellectual curiosity and support academic ambition.

Our outstanding academic results speak for themselves, with pupils progressing to leading universities in the UK and around the world.

Haileybury is a community focused on developing well-rounded young adults of good character. We encourage pupils to be bold and courageous in their ambition and to understand that success demands hard work and self-discipline. We seek to develop confidence and resilience so that challenges can be met directly and overcome successfully. Our pupils benefit from our school partnerships in the UK and around the world. Whether they are local or from a different part of the world, pupils work well together and learn with and from one another.

We are committed to inspiring, empowering and supporting the learning, wellbeing and personal development of our pupils. We want them to leave school equipped with the values, skills and credentials they will need to thrive and make a positive impact on the world around them.

The Master

Just 30 minutes from Central London yet set in 500 acres of stunning countryside, Haileybury offers a vibrant and inspiring environment where expansive green spaces, state-of-the-art facilities and beautifully maintained grounds nurture wellbeing, spark curiosity and energise young minds.

Haileybury is a vibrant community where every voice matters, friendships run deep and moments shared become memories that last a lifetime. We are united by shared values and aspirations.

COMMUNITY

‘Pupils seem happy, confident, friendly and well-balanced.’

PASTORAL CARE

Strong and supportive relationships are at the heart of school life. We believe every child should enjoy a true sense of belonging and feel valued, understood and encouraged at every stage of their journey. Our robust safeguarding protocols, commitment to outstanding pastoral care and our belief that a collaboration between school and home is central to young people confidently navigating the challenges of adolescence, all ensure that pupils are safe, happy and successful.

Our thriving boarding and day community is built around our House system, which underpins the outstanding pastoral care we provide. In addition to the Lower School Boarding House, we have twelve Senior Houses, six for girls and six for boys. Each pupil’s House becomes their home and a place in which great friendships are forged.

From their very first day, pupils are welcomed into a close-knit community. House staff get to know each child as an individual and older pupils offer guidance and encouragement. Every House is led by a dedicated Housemaster or Housemistress who becomes a mentor, advocate and source of support for each pupil. Deputy HMs, resident tutors, matrons and tutors offer support and create a nurturing environment where pupils always have someone to turn to.

House life is vibrant and full of spirit. Whether rehearsing for House Music, celebrating birthdays, planning socials, taking part in weekend trips or simply chatting in a common room, there is always something happening and always someone to be with. Houses are where strong friendships are made, confidence grows and special memories are created.

Our beautiful Chapel sits at the heart of our school and the Chaplaincy plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing of everyone within our community. It is a space in which pupils of all faiths and none can enjoy peaceful respite and find strength, comfort and inspiration.

A CARING COMMUNITY, WHERE EVERY PUPIL IS KNOWN.

Here, everyone belongs. It’s a place where friendships grow strong, kindness shapes our culture and laughter fills the air.

‘Pupils demonstrate an outstanding respect for each other and show very high levels of mutual support’.

LIVING KINDNESS. CREATING BELONGING TOGETHER.

At the heart of Haileybury is a simple yet powerful belief: children thrive when they feel safe, seen and supported. We are a happy, kind and warm community where every pupil is known and valued for who they are.

From the moment a child walks through our doors, they become part of something special. Haileybury is a place where friendships flourish, kindness is second nature and

laughter is a daily soundtrack. Our school is more than just a place of learning; it is a second home where children are encouraged to be themselves, celebrate others and grow into compassionate, confident young adults.

We know that learning is most powerful when it happens in an environment of trust and care. That is why we nurture a culture where

pupils support one another, where staff model respect and empathy and where every success, big or small, is celebrated.

Becoming part of our school means joining a community that actively supports and champions every pupil. Here, a sense of belonging is not only encouraged, it is integral to who we are.

KINDNESS

DISCOVERING INTERESTS, PURSUING PASSIONS AND STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE.

ACADEMIC

Pupils are encouraged to be intellectually curious and academically ambitious, to look beyond the confines of an examination specification and to apply themselves diligently. Encouragement comes not only from staff but from fellow pupils, meaning that there is a real sense of joy and purpose in a Haileybury classroom.

We recognise that books, discussion and tried-and-tested teaching practices remain central to effective teaching and learning, but we confidently embrace the potential of digital technology to enhance learning. Pupils develop a high level of digital fluency that supports their studies and prepares them for life beyond school. Our pioneering approach has been recognised by both Apple and Google and, as a Google Reference School with Apple Distinguished School status, we are proud to be seen as leaders in this field.

We place strong emphasis on digital citizenship, helping pupils become responsible, thoughtful and ethical users of technology. Alongside

this, we encourage creativity and innovation across the curriculum, showing pupils how technology can unlock new opportunities in art, music, design, coding and problemsolving.

Importantly, pupils are not just recipients of our strategy. Our team of pupil digital leads provides feedback and advice, ensuring that pupils’ digital experiences reflect the needs of learners themselves.

Our curriculum is broad and 21stcentury relevant. In Years 7 and 8, there is a strong and varied core of subjects that is complemented by extended practical afternoon sessions in music, drama, computing and design technology. Pupils are encouraged to explore and investigate across a wide range of subjects in order to discover their passions and interests. This continues in Year 9, where pupils also have the chance to put their own stamp on their learning through our bespoke Pathways Programme, with options ranging from Astrophysics to App Design, with much in between.

In Years 10 and 11 pupils have the opportunity to study 10 subjects, ensuring breadth and depth across disciplines. We also offer a Prediploma course to those joining us in Year 11.

By the Sixth Form, pupils are starting to identify as subject specialists and have full autonomy over what they study, starting with a choice of whether to pursue a curriculum based around a rigorous suite of A levels or around the globally respected International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

In all year groups and stages, the learning that takes place within the classroom is supported and enhanced by the learning that takes place outside the classroom, whether that be through shared experiences on the sports pitch, on trips, exploring our campus or through the service or activities programmes. We aim for pupils to leave Haileybury with the knowledge that they need to make sense of the world as well as the values and skills required to make a positive impact on it.

We foster a culture of intellectual curiosity and academic ambition. Diverse perspectives are valued and every pupil is encouraged to think critically and engage actively with the world around them.

INTEGRITY

CURIOSITY

PURSUING ACADEMIC PASSIONS AND APPLYING THEORY TO REAL-WORLD CONTEXTS.

Through independent research, we encourage our pupils to dive into the unknown and explore real-world challenges. Pupils have a wealth of opportunities to pursue their own research, whether through the projects that are built into our curriculum, writing an article for a departmental magazine, entering prestigious external competitions, taking part in the annual Academic Exhibition or completing a formal project qualification. They are able to explore our remarkable Haileybury Archives, read and access resources in our recently refurbished school library and complete practical work in state-of-the-art laboratories. Providing our pupils with opportunities to investigate an area of their choosing and share their findings with a wider audience fosters intellectual creativity and academic ambition.

PIONEERING GENETIC RESEARCH WITH STANFORD UNIVERSITY

SPEED, INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

LAUNCHING DREAMS INTO ORBIT

Imagine building and launching a satellite into space. That is exactly what Haileybury pupils are doing through our groundbreaking CubeSat programme. One of the first secondary schools in Europe to embark on this mission, we offer an extraordinary chance to get handson with spacecraft engineering, space mission planning, orbital mechanics, optics, electronics and programming. With expert guidance from aeronautical engineers and the support of a leading aerospace engineering firm, pupils from multiple year groups are working to design,

Haileybury’s Stan-X programme breaks new ground in genetics research, connecting Sixth Form pupils with leading scientists at Stanford University. Working in our dedicated Stan-X lab, pupils study fruit flies, which share a remarkable genetic similarity with humans, to uncover clues that could lead to cures for devastating diseases like pancreatic cancer and diabetes. This is handson research at its very best, where pupils don’t just learn science, they advance it. From contributing to real discoveries and co-authoring papers in prestigious journals, to securing summer internships at Stanford’s world-class labs and presenting on the international stage, pupils step into the role of true scientists shaping the future.

ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE

Our cutting-edge VEX Robotics programme is where creativity meets technology, blending maths, physics, computer science and design technology. In 2025, five Lower School pupils represented Haileybury at the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, Texas, their debut on the global stage where they showcased the incredible talent and determination nurtured within our STEM community.

Haileybury pupils also embrace engineering and sustainability through the thrilling Greenpower project. By designing, building and racing electric cars, pupils fuel their passion for innovation while learning essential scientific and engineering principles.

MAPPING NATURE WITH INNOVATION

The EcoMap project combines ecological research with cutting-edge technology to create an interactive map of local biodiversity. Pupils engage directly with nature, gathering data to help protect and understand our environment better than ever before.

At Haileybury, learning is an adventure. Pupils discover what it means to think creatively, act independently and innovate like the leaders of tomorrow.

PROTECTING OUR RIVERS, SHAPING OUR FUTURE

Through the inspiring Drinkable Rivers community programme, pupils become environmental scientists in action. By collecting and analysing water samples, they contribute vital data to a global network, helping to protect and preserve clean rivers and waterways, starting right in the local community.

As an official SAT centre, we are well placed to support applications to US universities.

IGNITING PASSIONS. REALISING POTENTIAL.

CO-CURRICULAR

Whether thriving on the sports field, shining on stage, seeking adventure outdoors or leading in a debate, our co-curricular programme provides pupils with the opportunity to grow, have fun, explore and excel.

We offer an extraordinary breadth of activities, from robotics to filmmaking, photography to the Model United Nations. Whatever their choice of activity, we aim to cultivate talent, develop resilience and build character.

No two pupils are the same, which is why our programme is an exciting, ever-evolving mix of opportunities that educate, challenge and inspire in equal measure.

We empower our pupils to shape their own co-curricular journey. If they have an idea or a project they want to pursue, we encourage them to take the lead in following their passion. We don’t want any pupil to look back and wonder ‘what if?’

Our outdoor education and activities programme builds character and resilience, supports personal development, encourages teamwork and sees pupils discovering a love for the great outdoors.

BUILDING CHARACTER. SUPPORTING DEVELOPMENT.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Whether navigating a remote landscape, working together to build a shelter in the woods, kayaking, climbing, sailing or flying, pupils have outstanding opportunities to learn outdoors.

Our magnificent estate allows us to ensure that outdoor education is a core component of our co-curricular

programme and our outdoor learning area is where pupils get hands-on experiences in nature. The Lower School curriculum includes regular time for outdoor learning and Year 9 pupils take part in our bespoke Coghill programme.

Our thriving Combined Cadet Force (CCF), the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

and the Adventure Skills programme offer pupils the chance to challenge themselves while having fun with friends. Our Outdoor Education and Activities Programmes give pupils the opportunity to learn practical skills such as bushcraft and navigation, while also developing an appreciation for the environment and a better understanding of sustainability.

RESILIENCE

Giving your all, showing commitment, learning how to work within a team and enjoying the thrill of competition.

TEAMWORK

We nurture pupils’ sporting talent and believe that sport offers invaluable opportunities to learn about teamwork and leadership. We believe that sport supports the development of character, allows pupils to learn about themselves and enables them to create memories which last a lifetime.

Dedicated and talented coaches offer our pupils guidance and support, whatever their age or level of ability. Pupils have the opportunity to engage in sport at least three times a week and there is a fantastic tour programme.

Programmes for our 20+ sports cater for the full spectrum of ability, from the

enthusiast to the elite athlete. We offer regular competitive fixtures across the whole ability range and our sports provision is underpinned by an extensive strength and conditioning programme. We offer a High-Performance Programme for those aspiring to play sport at the highest level.

OUR ‘SPORT FOR ALL’ ETHOS LEADS TO SUCCESS AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.
Outstanding music opportunities ensure that creativity and imagination can be expressed and celebrated.

MUSIC

Music fills the air every day. From the stirring sound of the Chapel Choir to the energy of pop, rock and jazz bands, music is woven into the fabric of school life; it is accessible to all and celebrated at every level.

Our inclusive yet ambitious programme offers something for everyone: orchestras, chamber groups, ensembles and solo performances, as well as regular concerts, recitals and tours. Whether performing in our

Chapel, in a concert hall or on tour, our pupils are given a platform to shine.

Instrumental lessons are available in almost any instrument and pupils are inspired by a team of dedicated, expert teachers. Music at Haileybury is about more than technical skill, it is about expression, joy and shared experience. It is about every child finding their rhythm and their voice.

CELEBRATING PERFORMANCE. DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE.

CREATIVITY

DRAMA

Drama is bold, creative and alive with opportunity. It is a space where pupils step out of their comfort zones and into the spotlight, whether on stage or behind the scenes.

Three major co-curricular productions light up our theatre each year, along with House drama and our wonderful Arts Week festival. There are many opportunities for actors, directors,

designers and technicians to shine. From classical plays to contemporary scripts and musicals co-produced with our Music Department, every production is a chance to explore, collaborate and grow. Pupils can also take LAMDA lessons in acting, public speaking, improvisation and Shakespeare and they are supported by an outstanding team of tutors.

DANCE

Whether classical or contemporary, solo or in a group, pupils can use movement to express their creative ability. Our annual Dance Show gives pupils the opportunity to perform and musical theatre productions

incorporate choreographed dance routines. We happily support those pupils who wish to stretch their talents by pursuing graded dance examinations.

CONFIDENCE, CHARACTER AND

CONTRIBUTION.
Pupils are empowered to lead with confidence, character and purpose. They serve others and make a meaningful contribution to their community.

Service to others has always been a core value at Haileybury. We believe that education extends beyond academic achievement to include a strong sense of responsibility and connection to the world around us. Through service, our pupils develop empathy, compassion and a deeper understanding of the positive impact they can have on others.

We empower pupils to make meaningful contributions and encourage them to take the initiative in leading projects that address real-world challenges. Whether supporting local charities, participating in environmental initiatives or collaborating on outreach programmes, our pupils learn the value of generosity and active citizenship.

At Haileybury, service is seen as a commitment to the greater good. Grounded in kindness and purpose, we prepare our pupils to become thoughtful, compassionate individuals who strive to make a positive difference, both within our community and beyond.

LOWER SCHOOL

The Lower School is home to our Year 7 and 8 pupils. For children joining us from primary or prep schools, it offers the perfect blend of comfort and challenge; a ‘soft landing’ into senior school life, where we inspire our pupils to look ahead with excitement and confidence.

The Lower School has its own dedicated building, providing pupils with a reassuring sense of home and belonging, but they also make full use of the wider campus and venture into specialist spaces for subjects such as science, music, drama and technology. It is the best of both worlds: a nurturing base with access to worldclass facilities.

Our Lower School pupils are taught by expert, passionate staff who deliver a curriculum that both stretches and supports. Learning is enriching, stimulating and, above all, joyful.

Outside the classroom, life is equally dynamic. Pupils enjoy a packed and exciting sports programme, coached by our dedicated sporting staff. Whether in friendly matches or competitive fixtures, our teams are well prepared and proud to represent Haileybury.

Lunchtimes and after school are alive with activity. From music and drama to art, coding, debating and design, there is something for every child to discover and enjoy. Pupils can take part in regular musical recitals, join masterclasses led by visiting artists, and shine in both the Lower School play and whole school productions. Talent is celebrated, confidence is built and creativity is set free.

Pastoral care is at the heart of the Lower School experience. Pupils are placed in small tutor groups and each tutor is a mentor and guide, helping pupils navigate school life with confidence. For boarders and flexi-boarders, the Lower School has its own boarding house with a House Parent and resident staff there to support our youngest pupils. Our dedicated team of Lower School staff oversee every step of this journey, ensuring a nurturing and personalised approach to support and wellbeing.

Lower School life is full of energy, discovery, laughter and growth. It is a place where friendships are formed, independence is fostered and every pupil is known, valued and encouraged.

We don’t just prepare pupils academically, we nurture confident, balanced individuals ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.
