Custodianship The Haileybury Foundation has an important duty of Custodianship for the funds under its care. While the Board has overall strategic responsibility for the Foundation’s portfolio, it delegates day to day management to an Investment Committee. Donors and those considering a bequest have a right to expect that the Foundation will act responsibly to ensure that funds entrusted to it are properly managed, both over the short and the long term. The Haileybury Foundation, in collaboration with donors, supports projects and scholarships which may require funding for just a few years to essentially forever. The Foundation
• To achieve meaningful capital growth over the long term, with a targeted real (i.e. above inflation) return of over 5% p.a. (per annum), with emphasis on • The Preservation of Capital, which implies a relatively conservative investment stance, while
The corpus of the Haileybury Foundation is currently invested as follows:
• Incurring almost no management expenses (thanks to the consideration of our wealth management provider).
• Approx 75% in equities, of which approximately 60% are offshore positions and approximately 40% domestic, and
Many institutions, especially in the USA, have followed similar guidelines over many years and now, thanks to the miracle of compound growth, enjoy very large endowments, which provide them significant resilience. Haileybury would like to be similarly well placed 100 years from now.
• 25% in fixed interest securities and cash, with
Against that long-term objective, our performance to date is as follows: • A nominal return of 13% p.a. over the past 12 months, 14% p.a. over the past 3 years, 11% p.a. over the past 5 years and 9.2% p.a. since inception in 2015.

The work of the Haileybury Foundation has always been grounded in a simple but powerful idea: that education changes lives, and that opportunity should extend as widely as possible. As the School continues to grow and evolve, so too does the Foundation’s role in supporting that vision. This includes expanding access to scholarships, strengthening the long-term sustainability of the Foundation, and ensuring that
• The total portfolio income for the next 12 months forecast to be approx. 4.5% p.a. The Foundation provides the above summary as to how it manages the funds under its care, so that potential donors, or those considering bequests, understand how their funds will be preserved and (hopefully) grown and it is the Foundation’s intent to continue to be open and transparent in this regard. future generations of students benefit from the same breadth of opportunity that defines a Haileybury education.

• The Haileybury Foundation has thus generated a real rate of return since inception of well over its 5% target. By way of example, had $100,000 grown since inception by CPI (2.56% p.a.). It would now be worth $130,000, whereas at a nominal rate of 9.2% p.a. that same $100,000 would now be worth $249,000.
There is a clear focus on the future. This means thoughtful planning, strong stewardship, and a commitment to building capacity over time. It also means recognising that the most meaningful impact is often long-term, seen not only in facilities or programs, but in the lives of students who go on to contribute positively to their communities. The generosity of the Haileybury community remains central to this work. Whether through ongoing support, participation in Foundation initiatives, or the decision to leave a lasting legacy, each contribution plays a role in shaping what lies ahead. What stands out is a shared understanding that the Foundation is about more than immediate outcomes.
It is about ensuring that the School remains strong, relevant and inclusive well into the future. It is about creating opportunity where it is most needed and investing in the potential of young people. There is a quiet confidence in the path forward. With continued commitment and a clear sense of purpose, the Foundation is well placed to build on its work and extend its impact in the years ahead. Above all, the focus remains unchanged, to provide opportunity, to foster excellence, and to support young people in realising their potential.
