The Ripple Effect of Giving

As we gathered at our second Thank You event in August, to celebrate the achievements of our soon-to-depart Foundation scholars, it was impossible not to be moved by their reflections. Their stories of growth, gratitude, and ambition are a powerful reminder of the transformative impact of a Haileybury education. These young people are stepping into the world with confidence and we are immensely proud of them.

This moment also brings into focus the true strength of philanthropy in education. Giving, in all its forms — time, money, expertise, or legacy — is deeply personal. While many charitable causes deliver immediate, life-saving outcomes, education holds a unique place. It creates what I call the Ripple Effect.

When a Foundation scholar thrives, the benefits extend far beyond the individual. Their success touches families,

communities, workplaces, and even future philanthropic efforts. It’s a ripple that can reach across the nation and beyond.

Reflecting on our journey, I am proud of how far the Haileybury Foundation has come. When the late Tom Poulton established it in 2010, we had no corpus, no scholarships, no buildings and no stories to tell. Haileybury itself began as a family-run School in Brighton and had grown over those 118 years without ever having a traditional founding benefactor. As such, our wider mission has been to ‘re-found’ the school — securing its future for generations to come and, ideally, in perpetuity.

Since I became Chairman in 2014, our Board and advisors have worked tirelessly to build a sustainable strategy: raising awareness, growing our investment corpus, funding scholarships, building projects, and — most importantly — changing lives.

Our Board members and advisors are all volunteers and donors. The Foundation’s operations are generously supported by the School, and our investment corpus is managed pro bono. This structure allows us to honour our core pledges:

• Nearly 100% of donations go directly to their intended cause — well above the national average

• Our Winged Heart Society now includes over 30 generous members who have included the Foundation in their wills

• Our investment corpus has grown from $1M in 2015 to over $16M today, with the combined total of corpus and bequests exceeding $20M

• Our Building Fund, supported by current parents, continues to deliver practical improvements across campuses

• Our scholarship program continues to grow: 14 new scholars will join next year, bringing us to 37 active scholarships in 2026 and a total 60 lives changed forever across our years of operation.

Just as Haileybury champions its One School philosophy, the Foundation embraces a whole-of-community approach. Councillors, Life Governors, Executives, staff, parents, Alumni, suppliers and friends all contribute to our shared mission. Together, we are One Haileybury Giving Community.

With our community and Alumni base expanding each year, and our corpus growing steadily, I am more confident than ever that we will achieve our ‘50 and 50 by 30’ goal: $50M in corpus and bequests, funding 50 scholarships by 2030.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support.

The Haileybury Foundation’s Thank You event was held on Thursday, 21 August at the Brighton campus, bringing together donors, current and former scholarship recipients, their families, and senior staff in an evening of celebration and gratitude.

The event celebrated the impact of donors’ generosity, especially in enabling scholarships that support students who might otherwise be unable to access a Haileybury education.

Forty-nine students have had their lives transformed through the gift of a Haileybury Foundation scholarship. Many of these students were present at the event.

Highlights included moving speeches by graduating Year 12 scholarship recipients. These personal stories emphasised how Haileybury’s academic programs and cocurricular opportunities have shaped their development — socially, academically, and in terms of personal growth.

Senior Haileybury staff and Haileybury Foundation Board members emphasised how donor support helps ensure accessibility and equity — that the School can nurture talented students regardless of their financial background. The evening reinforced the mission of the Foundation: transforming lives through education.

In 2026, 14 new students will commence at Haileybury and Haileybury Pangea as part of the Foundation scholarship program. It was fitting that many of these students and their families were present on the

night. Each has their own story to tell but one area in common – that without the generosity of the Haileybury community, they would not have access to the wonderful opportunities that our School presents.

Haileybury Foundation donors are changing lives forever. Our donors come from all parts of our community – parents, alumni, past parents, students, staff and corporations. Thanks to this generosity, over 60 students have benefited from these life-changing scholarships since 2010. A Year of Record Achievement for the Haileybury Foundation

This year has been nothing short of extraordinary for our Foundation with more Haileybury Foundation scholarship students than ever benefiting from a Haileybury education. Brilliant stories and publications to share, events and donations, and our community fully rallying behind our vision, we are proud to note we have had the best year in our short history.

To Donate

Our student body has grown, and with it the number of young people whose lives are being enriched through access to a quality Haileybury education thanks to donors, alumni and community supporters. Meanwhile our publications — sharing the stories of achievement, opportunity and transformation — have reached a wider audience than ever. Attendance at our events has soared. Most importantly, the generosity of our supporters has never been stronger.

We are also excited to announce that we are moving firmly towards our bold goals: to raise $50 million into our corpus and establish 50 named scholarships by 2030. With the momentum of this year behind us, we believe we are wellpositioned to continue providing real benefit and advantage to deserving students and the Haileybury community.

None of this would be possible without the passionate support of you — our alumni, parents, neighbours and friends.

To past students who have returned in support, to the members of the community who believe in opportunity, and to the parents who entrust us with the education of their children, we extend our most heartfelt thanks. Your selfless commitment, your time, your donations, your advocacy — each has made a difference.

As we look ahead, we do so with enthusiasm and gratitude. Because of you, more students will access meaningful Haileybury scholarships and more voices will be heard in our publications. And all of this will strengthen both the Haileybury Foundation and the School it serves.

Thank you for being part of this journey, believing in possibility, and enabling change. With your continued support, the best years are still to come.
