Chinese Second Language & Chinese Second Language Advanced

Subject Guide

The study of languages is a key element of a well-rounded education in our globalised society, especially in today’s world where multilingualism is the norm. Languages can extend students’ ability to communicate and strengthen their understanding of the nature of language, culture, and the processes of communication.

Chinese Second Language is designed for students who have been studying the Chinese (Background) course at Haileybury, or at a weekend or community school, who usually have an extensive family background in speaking Chinese.

Chinese Second Language Advanced is for students who have more experience of Chinese but have no more than seven years of education in a school where Chinese is the medium of instruction, and the level of education attained in a school where Chinese is the medium of instruction is no greater than the equivalent of Year 7 in a Victorian school.
