Cars up to 8 seats available for local and long distance
Have you seen Bats in Hadleigh? Bats are a vital part of wildlife and a good indicator of the state of the natural world. They are also in decline and urgently need our protection. Hadleigh Environmental Action Team set up the Hadleigh Bat Group to do just this. Our first step was to build boxes for bats to roost in to replace their loss of habitat. Thanks to the support of the Men’s Shed in Hadleigh we have just taken delivery of 20 bat boxes in addition to those the group made with Benton End. Great examples of groups in our community coming together to help each other and nature. The next few months will be spent putting these boxes up around Hadleigh. Keep an eye open for them. Thank you to the Men’s Shed! Our next step is to find out what species of bat we have in Hadleigh, how many there are and where they roost. We are especially interested in where they have their nurseries and rear their young. The last time anyone looked at this was in 2016 when 6 of the 17 UK species of bat were found in and around Hadleigh. The Bat Group has lots of enthusiasm and we are learning a lot about bats, but we need your help with our survey. Do you think you have bats in your house or outbuildings? You may have seen them roosting or watched them coming out at dusk. If so, can you let us know and, if you are happy, we can come and survey your bats. Is there somewhere where you see lots of bats in the evening, usually around dusk when they come out to feed? Can you let us know as this will help us to find the best places to look for them.
