Honouring D-Day The 80th Anniversary and the Legacy of Private Harry Hughes This month sees the 80th anniversary of one of most notable dates in modern history, 6 June 1944, D-Day. D-Day 1944 was a huge turning point during World War 2. Beforehand the allied forces had no access to Western Europe. But after D-Day, they created a foothold which SURYLGHG DQ RSSRUWXQLW\ WR ƮJKW EDFN DQG VWDUW WR IUHH FRXQWULHV OLNH )UDQFH DQG %HOJLXP ZKR KDG EHHQ WDNHQ RYHU E\ WKH 1D]LV 8OWLPDWHO\ LW DOORZHG WKH $OOLHV WR WDNH WKH ZDU WR *HUPDQ\ and defeat them in Berlin. Men and women from Hadleigh played their part during this great struggle and we remember 39 individuals listed
