Critical Concerns
The Sisters of Mercy were founded out of a deep concern for persons who are poor. Today, that commitment is focused in five “critical concerns” that we address through prayer; attention to personal, communal, and institutional choices; education; advocacy with legislators and other government leaders; and corporate engagement. These concerns serve as the moral framework for everything we do at Gwynedd – including our Diversity & Belonging, Leadership, and Ministry & Service programs.

With intentional focus, that critical concern becomes even more pronounced within our curricula, programmatic activities, policy evaluation, and school practices. Students have opportunities to dive deeper into the critical concerns, expanding their awareness, deepening their understanding, and inspiring them to think critically about how this issue impacts women, people experiencing poverty, people of color, and members of other marginalized communities.

Monarchs in Motion
Designed for how students learn best. Monarchs in Motion reimagines the traditional school day to support engagement, flexibility, and student well-being. Rooted in research and informed by brain science, the schedule features rotating classes, dedicated time for student support, and opportunities for meaningful involvement in clubs, activities, and school life. Students spend less time rushing from one obligation to another and more time learning, connecting with peers and teachers, exploring their interests, and accessing individualized support. By prioritizing academic engagement, student well-being, and involvement beyond the classroom, the schedule helps students thrive both in school and in life.

Each day, the rotation of classes differs. With a rotating schedule, students attend four of the eight total available courses each day, with a total of eight rotating days.
COMMUNITY PERIOD
Community Period takes place every day between the first and second academic periods. This built-in 50-minute period allows for club meetings, activities, liturgies, assemblies, and school-wide activities.
WIN - “What I Need”
WIN occurs immediately before or after students’ lunch period and allows them time to complete individual assignments and/or meet with teachers/counselors. Students have the freedom to decide how they manage this time during the day based on ‘what they need.’

Clubs and Activities are integrated into Community and WIN, which minimizes the interruption of academic classes and lessens the overwhelm during after school hours.

Our specialized Concentration Programs are designed to provide academically ambitious students with opportunities for more rigorous and in-depth study. By incorporating grade-level pathways and specialized Concentration Programs, students achieve a deeper understanding and mastery of these critical areas, preparing them to become leaders and innovators in an ever-changing global landscape.
INNOVATION The Innovation Concentration of Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School represents a distinct focus of study, comprised of students who have chosen to embark on the most challenging STEM course offered by the school, all while pursuing independent research projects. Innovation students are required to maintain a 92 general average throughout their academic journey and actively engage in STEM-related clubs and activities.
GLOBAL CONNECTIONS The Global Connections Concentration program fosters globally-minded students rooted in Mercy Catholic values, empowering young women to excel academically, lead ethically, and engage compassionately. Through independent research projects, cross-cultural exploration, and service, Global Connections graduates will use their skills earned through independent research and advocacy to be agents of positive change, ready to tackle the world’s challenges with knowledge, skills, and empathy.

ACCELERATED SCHOLARS PROGRAM (ASP) — CLASS OF 2032
The Accelerated Scholars Program provides high-achieving 7th graders the opportunity for early admittance — apply, be accepted, and enroll — before the start of 8th grade. Students who take our 7th Grade Practice Test, score in the top 10%, and show a strong desire in attending Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School will be invited to participate. Gwynedd’s annual two-day empowerment conference is open to all 7th grade students who take the Gwynedd Practice Test in the spring and are interested in attending Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School. The event allows students to connect with accomplished Gwynedd alumnae, participate in hands-on activities, and learn about various career paths.
