LOCAL FARM COMPETITIONS 2026 SCHEDULE

We welcome you to the 2026 Local Farm Competitions Schedule and thank you for your support.

Dates for judging are set out in the schedule and precise timings will be confirmed to you closer to the time.

We are pleased to announce that Dyson Farming have agreed to be our main sponsor kindly offering accommodation for our main judging week in June. Many local agricultural and aligned professional businesses have agreed to continue their valued sponsorship this year. The Committee are very grateful for their ongoing support and welcome discussions with others who may also wish to discuss sponsorship opportunities.

Competitions BBQ

We are delighted to confirm that we will be holding our BBQ and social on Wednesday 17 June 2026 at Newbury Showground. Please note that all entrants, their staff and families and sponsors will be invited to join the Committee and Judges at the BBQ. More details will follow.

Entry Fees and conditions

We are pleased to announce that entries under ALL categories will be free this year and are open to all farms within the radius shown at the back of the schedule. You don’t have to be member of Newbury & District Agricultural Society to enter the livestock or crop classes. Entry into any class does not gain you entry to Newbury Show, however, all entrants will be invited to a drinks reception and prize giving on Sunday 20 September 2026 during the show.

If you have any difficulties with entries online please contact the office using competitions@nadas.co.uk or call 01635 247111. We will be happy to talk you through entries or send a paper entry form for completion.

Cancellation of Classes

The Committee reserves the right to cancel and classes which in their opinion are insufficiently filled.

Threshed Corn and Conversed Forage classes

Following the success of 2025 these will be judged at Newbury Show on the weekend of 19 & 20 September 2026. Entries must be delivered to the Produce Tent on Friday 18 September between 1pm and 4pm or on Saturday 19 September by 7.30am.

LONG SERVICE AWARDS

Long Service Awards (Agricultural Workers)

Entries close: 4 September 2026.

• Any employee who has completed 60 years of service. This will take the form of a medal and £70 cash award.

• Any employee who has completed a minimum of 40 years’ service. This will take the form of a medal and £50 cash award.

• Employees who have completed 25 years’ service, without intermission on the same farm and under the same employer. This will take the form of a Long Service Certificate and £25 cash award.

The employer must be a member of The Newbury & District Agricultural Society. (Employees receiving a Long Service Medal in 2023, 2024 or 2025 are not eligible).

Nominees will be offered 2 tickets to attend Newbury Show on Sunday 20 September 2026. There is no obligation for the nominee to collect the prize in person even if they attend the show.

Classes 1-4 - Restricted to within a 25 mile radius from Newbury Corn Exchange or having a Berkshire Address

Sheep Competition

Points will be awarded as follows:

• Quality of sheep 60 % Management 40%

• Only ewes and lambs are to be judged. The number of replacements shown must not exceed 25% of total flock size.

• NB Please state flock size on entry form. The divisions between large and small will be sent after entries close, to give an equal judging load in each class.

BEST FARMED FARM

Best Farmed Farms

• The whole of the land, arable, pasture and meadow, hedges and ditches in the occupation of the competitor, within the limits of the Society, and sufficient of stock and implements to be judged. Only stock on the farm or farms to be shown will be judged.

• These rules also apply to Contract Farming arrangements where the exhibitor is contracted on a stubble to stubble basis therefore the Whole Farm Business should be entered and declared.

• Exhibitors will not be required to provide financial details.

• Judges will be provided with description and details of each farm.

• Exhibitors are asked to supply this in good time for judging.

• NB Classes 5, 6 and 7 are not open to the winners in these classes in 2025. These may only enter Class 8.

• NB Please state acreage of farm on the entry form. The divisions between Large, Medium and Small will be set when entries are received to give equal judging load in each class.

Classes 21-23 - Restricted to within 15 mile radius from Newbury Showground or having a Berkshire address.

LINSEED CLASSES

Class 21 Linseed, not less than 4 hectares (The whole field to be taken into consideration)

Class 22 Maize, not less than 4 hectares.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING

Class 23 Embracing sustainable farming practices in harmony with the environment. This can include, but not limited to, regenerative agriculture, enhancing biodiversity, renewable energy, improving soil health and water quality.

NEWBURY SHOW CLASSES

THRESHED CORN

CONDITIONS

1. All corn must come direct from Exhibitor’s Farm Business.

2. Restricted to within a 15 mile radius from Newbury Showground or having a Berkshire address.

3. No competitor to take more than one prize in any class from the same farm, unless of a different variety.

4. Crops to have been grown by each competitor in and harvested in the 2026 season.

5. Entries must be delivered to the Produce Tent on Friday 18 September between 1pm and 4pm or on Saturday 19 September by 7.30am.

6. All exhibits are to be clearly labelled with NO writing on bag. This must include exhibitors name and variety. Any entry without this information will NOT be judged.

7. All corn to be shown in bags which will be supplied by the Society.

8. The sample bag of corn to be taken from stored crop lots consisting of not less than 5 tonnes.

9. Each exhibitor to be named on entry form.

ALL MUST CONTAIN MINIMUM OF 5 KGS. AND ENTRIES MAY BE WEIGHED ON THE SHOWGROUND. ALL CORN, EXCEPT RAPE SEED, BECOMES THE PROPERTY OF THE SOCIETY. SHOULD AN EXHIBITOR WISH TO RECLAIM HIS CORN THEY MAY DO SO AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SOCIETY. .

CONSERVED FORAGE

1. Entries must be delivered to the Produce Tent on Friday 18 September between 1pm and 4pm or on Saturday 19 September by 7.30am.

2. All exhibits are to be clearly labelled with NO writing on exhibit. This must include exhibitors name and variety. Any entry without this information will NOT be judged.

Class 34 Half a Bale of Hay-not less than 12 Kgs. in weight, made from one or two year ley.

Class 35 Half a Bale of Hay-not less than 12 Kgs. in weight, made from long ley.

Class 36 Grass Silage - Not more than one entry cut per farm. A fresh sample of 2-3 Kg. to be delivered to the Produce Tent at the Showground in good time for judging. Each sample to be accompanied by details as follows - cut number and method of harvesting; grass type; how stored (wrap or bag); type and rate of additive use.

Class 37 Haylage - Not more than one entry cut per farm. A fresh sample of 2-3 Kg. to be delivered to the Produce Tent at the Showground in good time for judging. Each sample to be accompanied by details as follows - cut number and method of harvesting; grass type; how stored (wrap or bag); type and rate of additive use.

Class 38 Two Stalks of Maize, to include the root, to be picked from the same field from the 2025 growing crop.

Trophies and Special Awards for Conserved Forage

• Zeneca Tankard (334) for the Best Silage crop

• Vine and Craven Challenge Cup (348) for the entrant in classes 24 to 38 accumulating the most points whose land is hunted over by the Vine and Craven Hunt

NEWBURY AND DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

Newbury Show is run by Newbury & District Agricultural Society (NADAS), an incorporated charity, with objectives relating to education and generally raising awareness of agriculture, horticulture, forestry, and rural crafts and businesses.

From our home at Newbury Showground, the Society recognizes its charitable aims and objectives through various events and programs run throughout the year, including the NADAS educational program delivered throughout Berkshire, North Hampshire and South Oxfordshire, an annual ploughing match, and Local Farm competitions.
