SHOWING RULES AND CONDITIONS
The use of sub-headings as well as emboldened type in these rules is for ease of reference only and does not affect the interpretation of the rules. Full rules are available from Show Office.
1. ENTRIES
1.1. RULES: - Every exhibitor making entries for the Competition shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by these Rules and it is on this understanding only those entries are accepted.
1.2. ENTRIES: - All entries must be made on the Society’s on-line entry system at www.moretonshow.co.uk before the closing date specified in the Schedule, or on the requisite forms - if on paper
1.3. RIGHT OF REFUSAL: - The Council reserves the right to refuse any entry. In the event of classes being over-subscribed the Society reserves the right to limit the number of entries or cancel entries.
1.4. ESSENTIAL ACTION: - Exhibitors will comply with any directions or instructions given to them by the Society which the Society deems to be expedient.
1.5. RESTRICTED LIABILITY: - In the event that a class or classes are cancelled by the Society (whether or not the Competition takes place) then the maximum compensation due to an exhibitor will be a refund of the entry fee(s) paid by the exhibitor in respect of the class or classes that have been cancelled.
2. OWNERSHIP: - Exhibits in all classes must be the bona fide property of the exhibitors and all exhibits must have been the property of, and in the possession of, the exhibitors at the time of entry.
3. ENTRY FEES: -
3.1. Any additional costs incurred by the Society arising from non- clearance of a cheque must be paid by the exhibitor.
3.2. INTEREST: - Interest upon sums due to the Society under these Rules shall be payable at the rate of 3.5% above the base rate charged by Lloyds TSB Bank Plc, from time to time, and shall be payable commencing 14 days after the published date for the close of entries in the relevant section.
4. JUDGES
4.1. APPOINTMENT: - A list of judges for the forthcoming Competition shall be nominated by the Farms & Crops Committee.
4.2. DEPUTY: - In the event of a judge or judges failing to attend on Competition Day, the Secretary or Chief Steward may appoint a deputy or deputies.
4.3. JUDGES’ INTEREST IN ENTRIES: - Exhibitors are particularly requested to note the name of the Judge appointed for the livestock classes they wish to enter, and are advised, in the interest of all concerned, not knowingly to enter an animal bred by, or that has been owned by, the judge appointed.
5. STEWARDS: - An exhibitor cannot act as steward in any class in which he/she has an entry.
6. OBJECTIONS: - The decision of the judges shall be final. Objections of any kind must be made in writing and delivered to the Show Office making clear that it is an objection which is being handed in. A deposit of £60 shall be paid with each objection which must be made within one day of the judge’s decision being given; in the case of a joint objection a deposit shall be payable by each objector. Such objections will be considered by a panel of not less than three members of the Society appointed by the Society Chairman or Vice-Chairman and their decision shall be final. Anonymity will not be available to any objector. The deposit may be forfeited at the discretion of the panel.
7. HEALTH & SAFETY: - The Organisers of this Competition have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all Officials and Stewards. It is a condition of entry that exhibitors conform to the requirements of the Society’s Safety Policy and of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and for ensuring that safe working practices are followed by themselves, their employees, Agents and Contractors. A full copy of our Health and Safety policy can be found on the Society website.
8. UNRULY ANIMALS: - All animals must be controlled to the satisfaction of the stewards.
9. LIABILITY: - The Council will not be responsible for any entry being made in the wrong class, nor will the Council be held responsible for exhibits not arriving in time to be judged. The Council does not hold itself responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any persons or exhibit at the Competition, and it shall be a condition of entry that exhibitors hold the Society blameless and indemnify it against legal proceedings therefrom.
10. CONDUCT
10.1. BEHAVIOUR: - In the event of a competitor, or anyone connected with a competitor, being guilty of improper behaviour, the Society Chairman or Farms & Crops Chief Steward shall have the power to exclude the offender from the Competition and recommend that the Council shall refuse that person’s entry for future Competitions. Should an exhibitor be aggrieved at such action he/she may lodge an objection in writing, which will be considered in accordance with the Objection Procedure above.
10.2. ANIMAL HEALTH: -
10.3. The Judges and Stewards will have the power to refuse to judge any animal or group of animals thought to be carrying an infectious disease, which might be passed to animals on farm to be judged later.
11. DATA STORAGE & PUBLICITY:

11.1. The rules & regulations in the schedules should be read, and when the exhibitor has ticked the consent box on the entry form, either paper or online, the Society will use the information as follows:
11.2. Store, process and retain, including electronically, all data and personal information provided by exhibitors for the purposes of operating the Competition, maintain appropriate records and communicating with exhibitor in future concerning any of the Societies activities. Information about exhibitors and their animals and plants may also be provided to APHA, DEFRA, Trading Standards, County Council departments, BCMS, SAC, breed societies and others having regulatory functions as well as the Society’s veterinary, environmental health, legal and safety advisers.
11.3. Publicise the names of exhibitors in Society website. Information about results may also be published and/or provided to the press for publication.
11.4. Photograph any exhibitor or other person on the Competition and store and use the resulting images for use in the Society publications, press and marketing; the Society will own the copyright of such images.
12. CONTRACT: - The contract between an exhibitor and the Society shall be made at Moreton-in-Marsh.
13. SPECIAL REGULATIONS: - The rules published in the Farms & Crops Schedule be deemed to be part of these General Conditions. In the event of a conflict, then the Rules shall prevail.
14. LEGAL COMPLIANCE: - Exhibitors shall comply with all relevant Statutes and Regulations.
FARMS & CROPS RULES

1. Any entrant, whose farm and/or steading is in the Society’s restricted area (see map, p17), is eligible to enter such land in the Farms and Crops Competitions. Adjoining land belonging to the same holding but falling immediately outside the boundary will also be eligible. Any land which has been the subject of judging by the Society within the three years ended 31st December 1990 shall continue to be eligible.
2. Only one prize per class will be awarded for any individual farm.
3. Classes with only one entry (other than sector competitions) will be cancelled.
4. All crops will be judged for the Best Crop according to the land on which it is grown. The whole field will be judged and must be at least FIVE acres unless otherwise stated.
5. Multiple entries are accepted in a class unless otherwise stated, apart from Corn Crops classes where one entry per class for each competitor will be allowed unless the land covers more than one sector in which case one entry per class may be made in each sector.
6. All entry fees are £5.00 per class including V.A.T. Receipts will only be issued on request enclosing a S.A.E. Entry can be made online at www.moretonshow.co.uk
7. Trophies, prize cards and prize money will be given out at the prize- giving (date to be fixed). Unclaimed prize money will be put back in the Show Society funds.
8. Prizes: unless otherwise stated 1st £15; 2nd £10; 3rd £5.

3. Stewards will liaise directly with judges, arranging judging date and route if necessary, advising entrants of arrangements, accompanying judges and passing results to the Show Office. Stewards will give as much notice as possible, but a minimum of three days is requested.
4. Stewards are responsible for checking the addition of any marks and Placings before issuing results.
5. Results will be posted on the online entry system www.moretonshow.co.uk. Prize money and prize cards will be presented at the prize giving. Any unclaimed prize money will be paid into the Show Society funds. TALLIS AMOS FARM MACHINERY have kindly sponsored the prize cards.

MORETON AND DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL
LONG SERVICE AWARD
An award to recognise those who have worked in agricultural for a long period of service. This award is for employers to nominate employees who they feel should be recognised for their long services to the rural community.
Employees who have worked for the time stated, in agriculture, forestry or game- keeping, on the same estate/workplace, located within the Society’s restricted area, are eligible for awards subject to the approval of the Society’s Council. Special consideration will be given to others thought by their employers to be worthy of the award. The employer must have been a paid up full or life member of the Society, or (whether or not within the restricted area) have supported the show by means of sponsorship or having an allied tradestand for the five years before the Show at which the award will be given.

Details of seeding should be available. The whole field will be judged unless, in larger fields, a patch is clearly indicated and staked which must not be less than 50% of the field, or a minimum of 8 acres, whichever is the greater. Whole fields to be not less than FIVE acres. Set-aside land is not eligible
THE WILLIAMS AND HAWKINS CUP will be awarded to the Champion of Classes 7, 8 and 9: Grass Crops

If in the opinion of the sector judges, the crop does not meet the required standard no prizes or points will be awarded. The whole field will be judged and must be at least FIVE acres - see Rule 5.
Prize money is only payable to Champion Crop winners.

This award will be presented to the operator who gains the most points in the Drilling, Ploughing and Hedge Trimming competitions with bonus points for the Invention and Adaption competition.

ROOT CROPS
POTATOES
Class 22: CROP OF WARE POTATOES (WHITES) minimum 1 acre.
Class 23: CROP OF WARE POTATOES (COLOURED) minimum 1 acre.
Class 24: QUALITY POTATOES - A sample, weighing 5lbs, will be judged for appearance, cooking and eating. Samples will be collected when judging of Classes 22 and 23 takes place. Samples of crops not entered in Classes 22 and 23 must be delivered to the Show Office not later than date of field judging.
Classes 22 and 23 will be merged if insufficient entries.

THE BRAIN CHALLENGE CUP will be awarded to the winner of Classes 22 and 23: Best Crop of Ware Potatoes
THE LEADBEATER CHALLENGE BOWL will be awarded to winner of Class 24: Best Quality Potatoes

FODDER CROPS
Class 25: BEST FODDER CROP (kale, swedes, turnips, fodder beet and mangolds). Exhibitors to state the species of roots to be judged; if there are sufficient entries of one particular root crop, the class will be split.
Class 26: BEST CATCH CROP OF STUBBLE TURNIPS, planted after a crop harvested in the same season.
Class 27: BEST COVER CROP, planted in stubble and capable of being grazed.

THE BRASSEY CHALLENGE CUP
for the Best Crop Production of the year will be awarded to the exhibitor who gains the most points in the competitions for Leys, Leguminous Forage, Standing Maize, Oilseed Rape, Pulses, Corn and Root Crops awarding points as follows:
1st prize: 4 points, 2nd prize: 3 points, 3rd prize: 2 points
Championship Crop: 2 points; Reserve Champion Crop: 1 point.
In any Class in which there are less than four entries, points will be awarded as follows: 1 entry - 1 point.
2 entries – 1st prize: 2 points; 2nd prize: 1 point.
3 entries – 1st prize: 3 points, 2nd prize: 2 points; 3rd prize: 1 point.
Where an Exhibitor has entries in more than one sector, only the highest placed results in each class will count towards the Brassey Cup.
Points from further placings in other sectors will not be included.

Exhibitors will retire for a (self-financed) lunch whilst judging takes place. The results will be published, and prizes given after lunch.

Class 33: INVENTION/ADAPTION COMPETITION
For the best farm invention/adaption designed and/or constructed by any members or their staff. This includes hand tools, machinery and adaptations to fixed equipment and machinery, large or small. Entries must relate to the working within the farming environment. Previous winning inventions/designs cannot be re-entered the following year. This class is also open to Young Farmers Clubs and Agricultural Farm Machinery dealerships within the Society area This competition will be split into Simple and Complex categories for judging if entries allow. Please state when entering if your entry is simple or complex. The judge may change the category of your entry if they feel it is in the incorrect one.

This class is open to any rural business within the Society’s Restricted Area (as indicated at the rear of the Schedule) which has completed a diversification project in the past 5 years.
• The competition is restricted to rural businesses residing within the boundaries of the Society’s restricted area.
• The competition is open to both members and non-members.
• The alternative land enterprise must be run from buildings or land on their farm.
• Entries will be judged on their creative, commercial, social and practical merits.
THE BIRCHALL CHALLENGE TROPHY AND CERTIFICATE will be awarded to the winner.
Birchall Challenge Trophy is presented by Gloucestershire Rural Community Council in memory of Major Peter D. Birchall, 1907 – 2000.
