![]()

It is my pleasure to invite you all to compete at the 2026 Mid Somerset Agricultural Show, in Shepton Mallet on Sunday 16th August.
Our purpose-built show site has never looked better. There will be an exciting programme of ring events and classes to suit all age groups. With a little luck, we will be blessed with fine weather and enjoy another great show following last year’s successful event.
You can help us on the day by following the vehicle movement signage when accessing and leaving the site. The Ridgeway operates as a one-way system for a reason, so please follow the instructions of our stewards and the road signs at all times.
We value your support of the show. As exhibitors, you are one of the vital pillars of our event, alongside our volunteer stewards, sponsors, and visitors. Without each of these, the show could not be the success that it is. May I therefore express my sincere thanks to everyone who helps, sponsors, and supports the show in any way.
We will do our very best to ensure you have an enjoyable day, and we hope you leave with a sense of achievement and satisfaction after spending a great day with us — even if we cannot promise you will win your class!
Please read the rules carefully and follow the stewards’ instructions and advice.
It is also my pleasure to welcome our new Society and Show President, Nicky Barber, a member of the cheesemaking family based in Ditcheat. The family firm has been producing their famous cheese since 1833.
Sadly, this will be the last show for our Show Secretary, Christine Barham, who has decided to retire after this year’s event. Christine has made an outstanding contribution to both the show and the Society, including successfully overseeing the move from the old site to our present showground. The Society wishes its sincere and grateful thanks to Christine for her dedication, hard work, and commitment over many years.
I am delighted to welcome our Secretary Designate, Bella Bride, who has stepped up from her role as Assistant Secretary and will be taking over from Christine. Replacing Bella as Assistant Secretary is our newest member of staff, Sophia Orttewell.
Finally, thank you to the team in the office - they make the show what it is today, and thank you to all our exhibitors for competing.
Enjoy your day.
Graham Walton, Chairman

The Mid-Somerset Show is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all participants and livestock. Bluetongue continues to be present in Great Britain and, in line with current government guidance, the whole of England is designated as a bluetongue restricted zone. Movements within England are permitted, but exhibitors must comply with livestock movement rules and remain responsible for checking the latest guidance before travelling.
Competitors planning to bring animals to the Show should adhere to the following:
• Stay Informed: Check DEFRA and APHA updates for the latest information on bluetongue and any changes to movement requirements.
• Movement Requirements: Ensure compliance with all livestock identification and movement regulations when transporting animals.
• Health Checks: Inspect animals before attending. Do not bring animals showing signs of illness; consult your veterinarian if concerned.
• Vaccination: Discuss bluetongue vaccination with your veterinarian where appropriate.
• Biosecurity: Maintain good biosecurity and take reasonable steps to reduce exposure to biting midges.
• Documentation: Ensure all identification and movement paperwork is completed and compliant before travel. By following these guidelines, competitors can help maintain a safe and successful Mid-Somerset Show for all involved.
Updates will be provided to competitors in accordance with current government and veterinary advice.
