Details of entries will be published in the catalogue and passed to our printers, solely for the purpose of compiling that publication. Results information may be published (in printed form and online) and provided to the Press and Breed Societies for publication. Information relating to exhibitors and their animals may be provided to DEFRA, Trading Standards, Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA), British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS), SAC, Breed Societies, County Councils, Veterinary Advisors and others who have regulatory access. The organisers will not be responsible for any accident or loss of property or otherwise arising from any cause connected with the show and it is a condition of entry that each competitor shall hold the organisers blameless and shall indemnify them against any loss, damage or legal proceedings. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify and demand the removal from the showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is suffering from or affected with, a contagious or infectious disease. All entrance fees for such animals will be forfeited. If an animal is deemed to be unfit for competing by the Society’s appointed veterinary, they reserve the right to deny entry to the ring and can request that animal/s be removed from the showground. The Society’s veterinary officer’s decision is final. Equine Influenza Vaccinations agreed and recommended by BEF Equine Influenza and Tetanus vaccinations are a compulsory requirement for all horses attending the Burwarton Show. The requirement for the first 3 vaccinations is as follows: the first 2 vaccinations 21 – 92 days apart, a third booster between 150-215 days, and an annual booster vaccination within 365 days thereafter. No horse should enter competitions within 7 days of an EI vaccination. Foals should commence vaccinations at 6 months old.This rule may be subject to change on guidance from the FEI/BEF and competitors are requested to check the website before entering. Passports will be randomly checked. PAYMENT OF PRIZE MONEY Payment of prize money for Class nos. 354 - 360 will be paid out in the Ring. Prize money for all other equine classes will be paid by BACS or by cheque sent by mail within 28 days of the Show. It is essential you print clearly your bank details on the entry form to enable us to process payments correctly direct into your bank account. If you prefer to be paid by cheque, please indicate this on your entry form. All passes and numbers will be mailed to competitors at least 14 days prior to Show day. If not received 7 days before Show day, please telephone the Show Office – 01746 787535. All equines should present with no evidence of whiskers or sensory hairs having been trimmed or removed (other than for veterinary purposes in which case you must provide written proof from your Vet; this proof must be available at Show if requested by a Show Official). Sensory hairs are the hard hairs located on the horse’s muzzle and around the eyes, also known as ‘whiskers’ that are used for sensation. THIS SHOW IS AFFILIATED TO THE FOLLOWING EQUINE BREED SOCIETIES This Show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No. 22-021. Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need NOT be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and have a valid qualifier card. Members to apply to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate Qualifier card. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 11 – 13 August 2022.

Veteran Horse Society – Area Qualifier 2022 First round qualifier for the Veteran Horse Society Supreme Final VETERAN HORSE OF THE YEAR 2022 Kindly sponsored by Allen & Page. Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. VHS Regional Final qualification. All competitors placed 1st to 4th in each Area Qualifier class will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional Finals. Members must carry their card in the ring at all times and have their showing card signed by the judge as proof of qualification. Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership, this MUST be done within 21 days of qualification. It is the competitor’s responsibility to present their Showing card to the judge. Regional Finals are open to members only. All competitors are eligible to enter open classes at the National Veteran Championships, to be held at Arena UK Lincolnshire on 30 September – 2 October 2022. No qualification or membership necessary. See VHS website for schedule. Horses will not be penalised in any RoR showing class being shown untrimmed re whiskers around the muzzle and/or the inner ears. Tattersalls AMATEUR Ridden Show Series Qualifier Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4 years and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on 1st January 2022. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavasson noseband. Horses should be plaited. The Series is open to amateurs only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration. Racing injuries and blemishes are ignored in this series. The class is a qualifier for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Final. The judge will not ride at the qualifiers. The first three go forward to the Final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting 2023. Amateur definition: The rules are as in the RoR Rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition, a person classed as amateur must not be supported by a company in any way or act as brand ambassador whether financially or in-kind. An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current or previous season engaged in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer’s/Trainer’s yard from 1st January 2022. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a show in the current season. A rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season must not have ridden horses at a show. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes. Tattersalls RoR OPEN In Hand Show Series Qualifier Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 3 years and over, fillies, mares and geldings. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored. Horses do not need to be shod to compete and can be shown in a Bitless/In Hand bridle. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. This class is a qualifier for the RoR Open In-Hand Showing Series Final. The first three go forward to The Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree in August 2023. RoR prizes will not be awarded to RoR qualifiers with numbers forward of two or less, however qualification for the Final will stand.

The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society Entries restricted to SPS-BS registered ponies.All ponies must be named. Rosettes will only be given to registered ponies or to foals eligible for registration.Three year old fillies with foals at foot may NOT be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show. All stallion entries (entire males aged 4 years old and over) must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPS-BS stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPS-BS voluntary veterinary examination. In-hand entire males 2 years and over are advised to display a stallion bridle badge. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all handlers aged 14 years or under. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring. Trimming/Clipping: The pony’s ears may be trimmed flat but there must be no trimming inside the ear. Trimming of the hair on the jaw line is acceptable. Sensory whiskers MUST NOT be trimmed. The Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WP&CS) Whiskers should not be trimmed. FEI rules prohibit the clipping/shaving of sensory hairs as part of the veterinary regulations. This has been implemented on welfare grounds. Exhibitors competing at affiliated shows are deemed to be fully conversant with rules contained within the latest WP&CS Judging and Showing Handbook, Codes of Conduct, and also the rules pertaining to the Burwarton Show. Bad behaviour to fellow exhibitors, owners, producers, judges, stewards or show officials will be reported directly to WP&CS for appropriate action. Exhibitors are alone responsible for the accuracy and eligibility of their entries. Any misrepresentation of any exhibit will be dealt with under the WPCS Disciplinary procedures. This Show offers qualification for The National Welsh Championship Show at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, on 7 August 2022. Affiliated to British Showjumping British Showjumping formulate the rules and codes of practice under which all affiliated competitions are held with the purpose of improving and maintaining standards of showjumping, while encouraging members of all standards and at all levels to enjoy fair competition over safe and attractive courses. Please refer to BS website www.britishshowjumping.co.uk for competition rules and regulations. EQUIFEST This Show is affiliated to Equifest, taking place at the East of England Showground in 2023. The two highest placed exhibitors not already qualified in each affiliated class will qualify for EQUIFEST 2024. You do NOT have to be a TSR member to qualify or enter a final. The Rider/Handler qualifies and can enter any horse/pony in any number of Finals! The 4 highest placed handlers/riders will qualify in each class. Competitors MUST have their card signed by the judge, steward or secretary. Cards are available FREE from the TSR website. ONE groom only is permitted per horse when in the ring. EQUIFEST and TSR Qualifier The B.D.A.S. PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP will be awarded to the BEST HUNTER in Class 301. The SIR GARETH PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP presented by Mr & Mrs J Clarke will be awarded to the BEST LOCAL HUNTER Prizes: 1st £20.00, 2nd £15.00, 3rd £10.00, 4th £5.00 – Open Hunter. Rosettes to 6th place. Prizes: 1st £20.00, 2nd £15.00, 3rd £10.00, 4th £5.00 – Local Hunter. Rosettes to 6th place. Entry Fee: £8.00 inc.VAT per entry. CLASS 301 Open Ridden Hunter. Mare or gelding, 4 years old & over, exceeding 153 cms. Riders any age. Local hunters owned by a subscriber or farmer in the Wheatland or Ludlow Hunts will be judged within this class with separate prize money awarded. Competitors (fully paid up subscribers or subscribing farmers within the Wheatland and Ludlow Hunts) MUST have hunted with either the Wheatland or Ludlow Hunts. A current subscriber number and/or name of Hunt MUST be provided on the entry form which will be checked with respective Hunt Secretaries. Competitors in the local class will wear white armbands to be provided on the day. The above class may be split at the discretion of the judges if sufficient entries forward on Show day.

BEST WORKING HUNTER Ring 2 - Commencing at 11.30 a.m.

A PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TANKARD presented by MRS J MASON will be presented to the RESERVE CHAMPION. Prizes: 1st £20.00, 2nd £15.00, 3rd £10.00, 4th £5.00. Rosettes to 6th place. JUNIOR SECTION

Ring 5 – Commencing at 3.30 p.m. Judge: MRS N FITTER, Church Stretton, SY6 7EL Spurs — The wearing of spurs is strictly forbidden. Regulation: Hard Hats MUST be worn – competitors not wearing regulation hard hats will be asked to dismount and leave the ring immediately. (Refer to page 23, Rule no. 8.) Age of Ponies — No animal under the age of four years may be shown in these classes. The GEORGE MILLINGTON CHALLENGE CUP will be awarded to the WINNER of Class 306(A). A PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP presented by The SADDLECRAFT (WHOLESALE) CO. will be awarded to the WINNER of Class 306(B). Prizes: 1st £20.00, 2nd £15.00, 3rd £10.00, 4th £5.00. Rosettes to 6th place. Best Pony Club pony This class will be split on Show Day if sufficient entries forward in the ring into (a) Best Pony Club pony ridden by a Pony Club member. 148 cms and under. Riders aged 16 years and under. Pony to be suitable for all Pony Club activities and will be required to jump a small fence. (b) Lead Rein. Pony to be suitable for Pony Club activities. Will NOT be required to jump.

WORKING HUNTER PONIES The following classes are judged under B.S.P.S. rules but are open to members and non members of B.S.P.S. Riders any age but must be of a suitable size for the height of the pony. Maximum height of fences 60cms CLASS 309 TRAINING STAKES W.H.P. Ponies 4 years and over. Riders any age but must be of a suitable size for the height of the pony. Maximum height of fences 70cms. CLASS 310 TRAINING STAKES W.H.P. Ponies 4 years and over. Riders any age but must be of a suitable size for the height of the pony. Maximum height of fences 80cms. Ponies may be entered in more than one class in this section. METHOD OF JUDGING. Animals will be required to jump a course of fences. They will immediately be asked to give a short show including a change of rein and gallop in the same ring. MARKS: Jumping 60 points, Style and Manners while jumping 20 points, Show Mark and Manners 20 Points. TOTAL 100 Points. Judges may record constructive comments on the mark sheets. Ponies may not be shown on the Lead Rein.

MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND WORKING HUNTER PONIES

All ponies MUST be pure-bred and registered in their respective Society Stud Books. EQUIFEST and TSR Qualifier Ring 2 – Commencing at 2.00 p.m. approx. SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP

Membership is an expression of interest in and support for the aims and objects of the Burwarton & District Agricultural Society and includes the right to attend, take part in and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Members are admitted free of charge to the annual Show and to the Members’ facilities on production of their membership badge.The Society will make no refund of membership subscriptions in the event of a Show being cancelled for whatever reason. Society membership benefits include: Free entrance to the Showground, ONE car pass for reserved forward parking in the Members’ only car park, use of Members’ Dining Pavilion and bar area, Grandstand Seating and use of Members’ high class toilet facilities. Guest membership – Members may introduce one guest each to these facilities on Show day on purchase of a Guest Badge at a cost of £20.00 (adult), £10.00 (junior) or £5.00 (child) from the Information Point situated immediately outside the entrance to the Members’ bar area. Limited Showground parking will be available for registered disabled members, provided prior application is made to the Show Manager. A covered viewing area will be provided adjacent to the Main Ring. A limited number of mobility scooters will be available for hire direct from Event Mobility on 01386 725391. CHARITABLE GRANTS

The Burwarton and District Agricultural Society Limited has limited funds available to make grants to assist in the furtherance of any of the following objects of the Society:— 1. The improvement of livestock, the advancement of breeding and the prevention and eradication of animal diseases. 2. The advancement of science and research in connection with agriculture and rural industries. 3. The development and improvement of crops and prevention and eradication of plant diseases and pests. 4. The development and improvement of agricultural machinery and equipment. 5. The holding of demonstrations and lectures on modern agricultural methods and processes. 6. The promotion of agricultural education and training. 7. The encouragement of Young Farmers Clubs and of activities related to agriculture by other youth organisations. 8. The encouragement of rural crafts and industries of interest to the farming community. 9. The promotion of co-operation between farmers and other land users with special reference to conservation. 10. The promotion of co-operation between rural and urban communities.

Application for grants to assist projects that further any of the above objects should be made in writing to The Secretary of the Society at The Show Office, Burwarton, Bridgnorth, Shropshire WV16 6QJ by 14 February.

THE JUDGE’S DECISION IS FINAL Competitors must ensure that handlers and riders are experienced and able to control their horse/pony at all times. Competitors must use the official walkways designated for movement of horses to and from the judging rings. Competitors must NOT ride or lead their horses/ponies through designated pedestrian areas; otherwise they will be asked to leave the showground. All competitors must follow designated traffic routes as directed on arrival/departure. Animals must NOT be left unattended whilst the Show is open to the public. No animal may enter the Showground if its place of origin is under health restrictions. All horses entering the showground must have a valid equine passport with them. Any person riding a horse/pony anywhere on the showground MUST wear correctly fitted protective headgear and ensure the chin strap is properly fastened and adjusted, according to the current standards as listed: PAS 015, VG1, (BS)EN1384 2017, ASTM F1163 04a, SNELL E2001, SNELL E2016, AS/NZS 3838 2003 provided they are BSI Kite-marked or Inspec IC marked. Any competitor not complying with this rule will be disqualified. ALL grooms must wear protective hats meeting the above requirements and be smartly and professionally turned out when in the ring. ONE groom is permitted per horse when in the ring. Riders must be of suitable height and weight for size of horse or pony bring ridden. Horses and ponies may be measured at the discretion of the judges or stewards. Certificates issued under the Joint Measure Scheme of BS will be accepted as evidence for ponies. No substitution of horse or pony will be allowed on Show day. All equines should present with no evidence of whiskers or sensory hairs having been trimmed or removed (other than for veterinary purposes in which case you must provide written proof from your Vet; this proof must be available at Show if requested by a Show Official). Sensory hairs are the hard hairs located on the horse’s muzzle and around the eyes, also known as ‘whiskers’ that are used for sensation. The Society may take actions against anyone who is in breach of this regulation. The wearing of a correctly fitting body protector is advised for adults and strongly recommended for under 16s. No lungeing allowed. In the unfortunate event of an animal dying or being destroyed on the Showground, the owner/competitor is responsible for the cost of disposal and agrees to indemnify the Society in respect of that cost. VETERINARY PRESENCE: A veterinary surgeon will be available all day on the showground. If, for whatever reason, they may be required please inform a Steward or the P.A. commentator and they will get the vet to you. (Appointed veterinary officers: Severn Edge Veterinary Group Ltd.) FIRE: In the event of a fire occurring, immediately notify the Commentators, Chief Stewards and Show Manager, giving exact details of the location. Follow instructions and, in the absence of a steward, ensure that everyone retreats to a safe area away from the fire and clear the approach roads. If it is safe to do so, tackle the fire with extinguishers until the Fire Service arrives. Any directive given by Emergency Services must be followed. Equine Influenza and Tetanus vaccinations are a compulsory requirement for all horses attending the Burwarton Show. The requirement for the first 3 vaccinations is as follows: the first 2 vaccinations 21 – 92 days apart, a third booster between 150-215 days, and an annual booster vaccination within 365 days thereafter. No horse should enter competitions within 7 days of an EI vaccination. Foals should commence vaccinations at 6 months old. This rule may be subject to change on guidance from the FEI/BEF and competitors are requested to check the website before entering. Passports will be randomly checked on Show day. Exhibitors shall be responsible for the correctness of their entries, which must be lodged with the Show Manager on or before the dates fixed and published. Entries should be made on forms provided and all horses and ponies must be named. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by the appropriate fees. Cheques should be made payable to the Burwarton and District Agricultural Society. The Society cannot be held responsible for any incorrect information supplied by Competitors and produced in the catalogue. Judges and Stewards have the authority to disqualify any unruly animal from the show, if, in their opinion, it is behaving in such a way likely to cause accident and/or injury to other animals, competitors, their associates or any member of the public. The Society defines a colt as being an uncastrated male horse less than four years of age on 1 January 2022. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry and also to accept any entry provisionally. The Committee reserves the right to withhold any of the prizes offered: (1) if in the opinion of the Judges, the exhibits do not possess sufficient merit, or (2) from any competitor or exhibitor whose entry does not appear in the Catalogue under the appropriate class unless specifically stated otherwise in the Schedule. All animals will be considered as being in the sole charge of the competitor who will be responsible for any loss or damage caused by such animal. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify and demand the removal from the Showground of any animal which, in their opinion, is suffering from, or affected with, a contagious or infectious disease, and all entrance fees for such animals shall be forfeited. The Society expects all exhibitors to comply with Breed Society rules for showing of animals whilst on the showground. The Committee, or officials appointed by them, shall be empowered to disqualify any exhibitor found to be contravening welfare regulations. The Society, its Officers and servants, shall not be responsible to any person whatsoever whilst entering, on, or leaving the showground, for any damage or loss, however caused to the property of such person, or for any injury, fatal or otherwise, to any such person.The Society, its Officers and servants shall not be responsible for any accident, damage, loss however caused that may occur to any exhibitor or their employee or to any animal, article, or property brought into the showground, or whilst entering, on or leaving, or being carried into or out of the said showground.The exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any loss, injury, or damage that may be done to, or occasioned by, or arising from any animal, article or property exhibited or brought into the showground by him/her and he/she shall indemnify and hold harmless the Society from all action, suits, expenses and claims on account of, or in respect of any such damage or injury which may be so caused or occasioned. No Competitor shall act as Steward in the class in which they compete. This does not apply to Jumping events. No person will be allowed in the Judging Ring except Judges, Officials, authorised Stewards and Competitors. All objections must be made in writing to the Show Manager within one hour of the finish of the event, together with a deposit of £25.00 for each objection, which will be forfeited if the objection is deemed frivolous. Objections will be considered by the Committee, and their decision shall be final. The Committee reserves the right to alter the timing of events, but the order of the Schedule will be adhered to if possible. CHALLENGE CUPS. With the exception of the Perpetual Challenge Cups, all Challenge Cups are to become the property of exhibitors winning them three times in succession or four times in all. Winners must undertake to return all Challenge Cups not later than 30 June, 2023. The decision of the Committee, or anyone appointed by them, in all cases of dispute and on all questions as to the conduct of the Show, shall be absolutely final. Prize money for Class nos. 354-360 will be paid out in the Ring. All other prize money will be paid by BACS by 31 August. It is essential you print clearly your bank details on the entry form to enable us to process payments correctly direct into your bank account. If you prefer to be paid by cheque, please indicate this on your entry form. No prize money will be awarded to any competitor whose entry does not appear under the appropriate class in the catalogue except in BS affiliated Class nos. 349-353. No prize money or refunds will be paid after 30 September 2022. All cheques to be banked by 30 September 2022. Any cheque not banked within statutory six month period will be treated as a donation to the Society. Exhibitors are required to abide by the Safety Standards listed on page 22.
