Something for Everyone, All Summer Long From the shores of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico to the exciting echoes of Chase Field in Phoenix, summer recreation with GVR has an option for everyone. Whether you like performances, day trips, dances, leisure education classes, or fitness—there’s something to fit every budget and inclination. The season kicks off with the Civic Orchestra of Tucson presenting their concert ‘Water in the Desert’ on May 3 to prepare for the monsoon. A couple of days later is the first of three VIP baseball day trips to Chase Field in Phoenix to see the Diamondbacks take on the NY Mets. The Mets game is sold out, but there’s still room on the bus to see matchups with the Houston Astros on July 23 and the LA Dodgers on September 25. The VIP baseball outing includes transportation, club-level access with shorter lines, private bathrooms, and spacious seating, along with all-you-can-eat food through the seventh inning. Celebrate mom with a special Mother’s Day Brunch and Mimosas on May 10. Or, wait a couple of days to enjoy the first of the Paint & Sips, Spring Floral, on May 13. Both events include two beverages. On July 11, another Paint & Sip takes place celebrating the beauty of a Summer Evening design.

June 14. Johnnie and the Rumblers invite you to dance the night away on June 27. For our swing afficionados, the Wholly Cats Swing Club bring the upbeat jiving to life on July 25. Love a bit of the grape? The Wine & Design: Bath Bomb Making Event frees your imagination to design a little selfcare for yourself or friends. And, why not invite those friends to join you on a couple of wine tours? Three Willcox wineries on June 30 and three Sonoita wineries on August 14 allow you to make your own Grape Escape. Cool off with free Pool Flicks at Madera Vista. Kicking off at dusk if weather permits, Mamma Mia! shows on June 5 and Thelma gets her revenge on June 26. Rounding out the summer entertainment are a couple of fun concerts in the American tradition. Green Valley Summer Big Band sounds off on August 6, and Pick & Holler presents A Lively Night of Americana on August 16 with the twang you crave.

Summer tributes begin on Friday, May 16 with Good Vibrations: A Celebration of the Beach Boys. This is followed a few weeks later by What the World Needs Now: A Tribute to Burt Bacharach. Don’t walk on by this chance to experience some of your favorite songs on Friday, June 6. For the folkies among us, MacDougal Street West presents: A Peter, Paul, and Mary Experience takes us to Greenwich Village for the finger-snapping bohemian vibrations of the early ‘60s on June 20. Just a few weeks later brings us Photographs and Memories: Celebrating the Music of Jim Croce. On August 1, one of the most significant storytellers in ‘70s song is remembered for his heartrending lyrics. If you are drawn to dancing, the Hardscrabble Road band can drive you there. They perform on May 23 in the first of the summer dances. Father’s Day sees the Jukebox Junqies and a delicious Sonoran BBQ spread at Canoa Hills poolside on

In between planned outings, why not try some drop-in activities? Del Sol Clubhouse is a welcoming drop-in space with TVs, billiards, darts, foosball, a café, and video games. However, all GVR centers welcome drop-ins from aquatics and water aerobics to volleyball. Check the new spring/ summer catalog or GVRec.org for times. You can also view weekly reservation schedules beside the room doors—if there’s nothing scheduled, feel free to drop in. Continued on page 6
