EVENINGS & WEEKENDS AT GVR GVR’s clubs set their own schedules, and those often coincide with the retiree lifestyle. GVR instructors are contractors, and select their class times based on demand. As a result, a lot of good stuff happens between 8am and 4pm, Monday through Friday. A lot. But not all! All centers are open from 5:30am-9pm, seven days per week, except for the Pickleball Center which closes at dusk. Members are welcome to swim, work out, play any of GVR’s racket sports, gather at bocce or shuffleboard courts, shoot some pool, or play table tennis—all available until closing, with no reservations or additional fees required. Water aerobics is offered on a drop-in, no-fee basis in four locations on Saturday mornings. Performances and movies are scheduled in the evenings throughout the year. The La Canoa Lion’s Club offers bingo every Friday night at East Center. Families with kids are welcome to use any pool any evening between 4pm and 6pm, and all weekend long at West Center. For Fall Quarter, GVR instructors are offering more than a dozen evening or weekend classes. Four groups routinely dance in the evenings or on weekends: GVR Square and Round Dance Club (Monday night),
Argentine Tango Club (weekends), GVR Line Dancers (Saturday), and the GVR Dance Club (Friday night). Several card clubs meet “after hours,” including pinochle, canasta, sheepshead, euchre, poker, and cribbage. The GVR Needlearts Club has offered to add an evening or weekend meeting to their schedule, to accommodate those who can’t attend on weekdays. The GVR Bicycling club has a number of groups who ride on weekends. The Singles Club, Amigas, and Amigos meet routinely on weekend mornings. Across the campus, “three-month groups” unaffiliated with clubs reserve rooms in the evenings (for three months at a time) to play games, do crafts, make music, study, Cont’d on p2
