DESTINATIONS INTRODUCTION Gay naturism or LGBT naturism (where naturism is generally equated with nudism) concerns a lifestyle of gay people in which nudity, especially in a communal context, is viewed as natural, positive and healthy. While mixed-sex naturist clubs and resorts in the United States date back to the 1930s, gay naturist organizations did not emerge until the early 1980s. The first nationwide organization to promote gay naturism was formed in 1980 called The Naturist Society (TNS). In contrast to the more conservative American Sunbathing Association (ASA) (which in 1995 was renamed the American Association for Nude Recreation, or AANR), TNS openly welcomed diverse groups of people and was a loose association of special interest groups (SIGs). From its inception TNS received almost daily inquires about a SIG for gay naturists.
PURPOSE OF THIS E-BOOK There are literally hundreds of traditional mixed-sex, family-friendly (predominantly heterosexual) naturist clubs and resorts worldwide, but for many gay men, they either feel uncomfortable attending these or even rejected at some of these places - some to the point of asking personal questions about ones marital status or stating they prefer a “50/50 balance of male/females” (in other words, too many gay men might throw the balance out or threaten the ‘family atmosphere’).
In 1983 Gay and Lesbian Naturists (GLN) was formed. GLN had its first gathering at the Summit Lodge in Rockbridge, Ohio in 1985. About 60 members, all of them men, attended. Annual GLN gatherings grew steadily in the late 80’s and early 90’s. In 1992, the group reorganised and was renamed Gay Naturists International (GNI). Although GLN had been founded with the intent of attracting both gay men and lesbians, it had been a de facto all-male organization as there had never been any significant lesbian participation in the group. The new GNI became gender specific in its mission. GNI also became an umbrella organization for networking local gay naturist clubs.
For gay men who love naturism and love to travel abroad finding a clothing-optional or naturist place to stay that is either totally men only, LGBT mixed, or very gay-friendly can sometimes be challenging. There are dozens of websites worldwide and not all gay accommodations are as easy to find. Depending on the country, they could be listed on MisterB&B, AirBnB, Purple Roofs, Gay-Sejour, Gay Travel Asia, Spartacus Travel Guide or any number of others. If they have their own website, it doesn’t mean they are easy to find if they are not ranking highly in Google or have not created their website with enough Keywords to be found easily on the Net.
The 1990s saw the beginning of annual gay naturist gatherings on a large scale. The annual GNI Gathering, held each August in rural eastern Pennsylvania, remains the largest gay naturist gathering, attracting about 800 gay naturists.
In this series of 5 e-books, hundreds of hours of research has been done compiling together as many gay clothingoptional Bed & Breakfasts, Guesthouses, Resorts, Gay Campgrounds, nudist beaches, gay naturist cruises and men’s venues worldwide into 5 e-books.
Since the 1990’s, gay naturism and gender-specific tourism has spread across much of the globe creating a growing market of naturist destinations and clothing optional accommodations specifically for men.

Generally mixed-sex naturist camps or resorts are not included into this E-book as there are hundreds of them worldwide and not all are gay-welcoming (there are other guides to find these). These guides are specifically intended for the gay naturist traveller. However, in some cases mixed-sex places have got a mention if they actively promote ‘gay-friendly’ on their websites. Not every single nudist beach is listed here either. There are a selection of the ‘official’ nudist beaches, and those noted as being ‘gay beaches’ or that attract a gay crowd. There are online websites specific to listing all nudist beaches such as Nakedplaces.net or iswimnu.de

The same applies to gay mens venues such as saunas and cruise clubs. Listed are some of the best venues or those noted to have naked days, naked events or naturist outdoor areas for nude sunbathing. Smaller venues, or those where clothes or fetish wear has to be worn (ie, not naked) are not necessarily listed in this e-book.
SYMBOLS KEY Next to each listing there are symbols to indicate whether they are for men only, LGBT mixed, mixed-sex, gayfriendly or are a private rental. Here are the symbols and the meanings:
Not every country in the world is noted as being a ‘naturist destination’. In some countries nudity in public areas including beaches is illegal. In some countries even homosexuality is illegal or is not tolerated. And some countries are just too darn cold! For these reasons, these countries are not listed in these e-books.
MEN ONLY
DISCLAIMER As you can imagine, with a series of e-books this size with hundreds of listings and photographs, if we were to approach personally each and every business and ask for their permission to promote their business and use the available photographs the project would take so long it would be out of date before it was complete.

In these e-books we have listed (free of charge to the business owners) their businesses promoting them to a targeted audience of gay naturist travellers (in most cases they are already promoting to this market anyway).
However, if you see your business listed in here and you feel we have used images we shouldn’t have used or you don’t want your business being promoted in the e-book for whatever reason, please email us and let us know and we are happy to change, replace or remove it. Being an e-book means this can be done immediately as there is noting in hard printed form.
FRIENDLY
MIXED
Mixed means the place is for all genders, but the places listed are welcoming of all sexualities including single gay men. Most are adults only, some are all ages.
PRIVATE RENTAL
I am hoping these e-books will be just as good for the business owners as they are for the travellers!

LGBT Mixed means the places welcomes everyone from the Rainbow community. There are many campgrounds in the USA that are LGBT Mixed, but the majority by far is still gay men.
Gay Friendly means the place is usually gay owned and generally has a gay clientele but they are not specifically for men-only. Women may be present.
GAY
In order to illustrate these e-books and make them attractive, engaging and useful, we have used images that are freely available on the internet or we have taken directly from the official websites. In most cases the words are also copied from their official websites or have been written to the best of our ability using the available information to hand.
Men Only, means just that. You won’t find, women or children here. In most cases the places that are listed are gay owned intended for gay men (with the exception of some segregated spas or Onsens).
Private Rental means the place is usually gay owned but only has one guest room, meaning you either get the place to yourselves or its just you and the hosts. These properties may also advertise to the general public and so will accommodate anybody who wishes to book there. They are not necessarily men-only properties.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Peter, and I live in Rotorua, New Zealand with my partner Mike. I discovered the joy of naturism when I was about 20 years old when I visited a nudist beach for the first time. Once I got used to feeling comfortable in my own skin and not feeling embarrassed or body conscious being naked around others, I was hooked! 25 years later my partner and I still enjoy naturism, whether this be at home running our men’s clothing optional Bed & Breakfast, at a nudist beach, going for nude bush walks or travelling abroad exploring other places to get naked. As I’m also a Graphic Designer I thought I’d combine my skills of design and my love of naturism and put together this series of e-books to help inform other gay men who enjoy naturism and travel to explore other parts of the world where naturism can take place, often in countries you’d never think naturism would be possible. I hope you find these e-books useful for you next ‘nakation’. I will endeavour to make yearly updates to these e-books to keep them current, removing any places that have closed up and adding in new clothing optional properties or venues as they appear. Almería / Vera (the Naturist Village)

Vera Playa Naturist Village Vera Playa is located at the south-east corner of Spain, on the Costa de Almeria, near the well known Moorish hill-top village of Mojácar. Vera Playa is known in Spain as a huge nudist community where the inhabitants and holidaymakers walk around all day without clothes. Not only on the beach but also in the cafes, restaurants and hotel built directly on the beach. Most of Vera Playa is textile but around 2.5 kms of the beach is designated as naturist and there is a naturist “zone” roughly one kilometre long and somewhat less than half a kilometre deep where there are 12 urbanisations (or developments with communal facilities) comprising a couple of thousand apartments in total, a few individual houses and a large hotel. Everywhere within the zone is naturist - including the street (it’s the same naturist village concept as Cap d’adge in France). You are not going to be arrested for straying outside the naturist zone by a few metres - you’ll soon get to know what’s “naturist zone” and what isn’t. The only hotel within the naturist zone is the Hotel Vera Playa Club, a mixed-sex, gay-friendly hotel. If you want self-catering accommodation there is plenty available from basic to luxurious. When the weather is warm enough you can be naked 24/7 within the naturist zone - but if you are staying at the Hotel Vera Playa you will be expected to be clothed after 8pm and when using the restaurant there. A committed gay community also enjoys meeting in Vera Playa and has its own clubs where you can be among each other. There is a gay bar within Hotel Vera Playa called “Taboo”.
