TEACHERSPOTLIGHT: MR.JACOBCOON

Mr. Jacob Coon joins the Gulfport staff by way of Texas and Indiana. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Mr Coon has a Masters in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music (Chicago) and a Bachelors from Truman State University (Kirksville, MO).

Mr Coon specializes in marching percussion, providing opportunities for musicians to develop interpersonal skills in addition to their talent as performers Mr Coon has worked with multiple BOA regional finalist bands and has directed multiple WGI finalist ensembles Along with his wife, Mr. Coon is excited to be immersed in the Gulf Coast culture!

This outstanding achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students and the unwavering support of our incredible GHS Band Staff, Parents, and Band Boosters.

We also want to extend our gratitude to all the bands who joined us for making the day such a memorable and inspiring celebration of music and performance

Our BVMS Beginner Woodwind students have been working hard and having a blast preparing duets with their performance partners! This project has been such a fun way for them to grow as musicians, learn to listen to one another, and build confidence as they get ready to perform. Each duo has been practicing with focus, laughter, and teamwork — and it’s been amazing to see how much progress they’ve made in such a short time. We are so proud of their effort and excitement as they prepare to share their music with everyone soon!

Meanwhile, our Art I freshmen have been honing their skills by exploring value in paint and collaborating on a colorful group project designed for fun selfies and group photos! Every student from Art I–Art IX contributed a piece to the backdrop, making it a true team effort You can find the finished masterpiece on display in the 9/10 building !
