TEACHERSPOTLIGHT: MR.BLAKENORRE
Mr Norre is the Assistant Band Director at Gulfport High School in Gulfport, MS. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi With seven years of drum corps experience, he marched with Southwind, The Cadets, and The Bluecoats
Over the past six years, he’s worked with high school programs, DCI, and WGI groups including Pace High School, St Martin Independent Percussion, Gulf Breeze High School, Southwind, and Music City Drum & Bugle Corps.
THE FUTURE OFTHE ARTS
The future of the arts in Gulfport is looking brighter than ever! The Gulfport Strings Department is growing fast and sharing their love of music with students all across our district. Recently, they’ve been visiting elementary schools to perform and introduce younger students to the world of string instruments. It’s been so inspiring to see how excited the kids get hearing live music right in their own schools. These visits not only showcase the incredible talent and heart of our strings students but also help spark a love for music in the next generation of Admirals.

Gulfport High School is proud to host the 57th Annual MHSAA Region V State Marching Evaluation and Battle on the Beach Competition on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Milner Stadium The day kicks off at 9:00 AM with the State Marching Evaluation, followed by the evening’s Battle on the Beach competition The Admiral Band has been working hard to perfect their program and is ready to take the field. We invite everyone to enjoy performances from over 32 high school bands and 2 college bands performing in exhibition It will be a full day of music, skill, and excitement!
Food and drinks will be available from vendors including Allen Beverages, Admiral Concessions, Papa John’s, Frios Gourmet Pops, and DellaGussy Cakes & Coffee Professional photos and video coverage will be provided by Boyd Media and CA Video to capture all the action

Teaching artist Jordan West visited the Gulfport High School Theatre Department! Students explored the power of storytelling through movement. Our director and students had an amazing experience. We can’t wait to welcome him back!

Students are back on campus for a full week of band camp at GHS as they prepare for their Evaluation this Saturday! A special thank you to the Gulfport School District Cafeteria and Child Nutrition team for keeping our students fueled and ready to perform with delicious lunches all week.
