A Letter From The President Your credit union has weathered some stormy times over the past couple of years and, like you, we are now trying to establish some normalcy back into our lives. We are moving forward with expanding our brand and footprint. We have just added these counties, Newton, Jasper, Tyler, Polk, Liberty, Chambers and the Bolivar Peninsula to our field of membership. You will notice some branch enhancements being made at our locations in the near future as we continue to find ways to serve our members in the most efficient ways. In April of this year we broke ground on our new Administration building, which will centralize our Executive staff, back office and support staff. We have added two new Directors over the past year and look forward to their contributions and direction as we continue to move the credit union forward in these challenging times. Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting was held February 22, 2022, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Groves. This year we had three board of director positions up for election and we are pleased to announce the results. Johnny Lewallen was re-elected and remains the Chairman, and we welcome two new directors, Dustin Marsh and Robert Lovelace.

Camille Jones and Robert Adams did not seek re-election. Camille served on the board for 30 years, and Robert has served 23 years. We appreciate their dedication and many years of service. It has been an honor to have them both serve, and we will miss having them on the Gulf Credit Union board.

Ukrainian relief efforts are being launched across the nation and scam artists are quickly arriving and preying on the empathy of individuals with fundraising schemes. Scam artists are using contact methods such as; phone calls, texts, and emails (often with a link to a spoofed website, or an attachment), social media networks, banner ads, and the internet. The scammers typically pose as friends, family, or romantic interests on social media to request donations. Reasons given often mirror valid reasons for a legitimate charitable organization such as the need to relocate a family or child within or outside the country, their home has been destroyed, the need for medical or rebuilding supplies including medication and food. If you are making donations, conduct proper due diligence to ensure funds are going to legitimate organizations and recipients. If you have been a victim of this scam, please contact the Federal Trade Commission and the State’s Attorney General’s Office.

Gulf Credit Union sponsored the monthly general membership meeting for the Home Builders Association of Southeast Texas in June. Dave Collins, Area Engineer for Texas Department of Transportation gave a great presentation on assistance with project management, regulatory compliance and construction inspection functions. There you can find a list of required information, such as personal and business tax returns, business financials, and business documentation. Once you completed the application, you can submit by email or in person with all required information. Your loan officer will walk you through the options that are available to you.

Receive Preapproval Once all paperwork is submitted, you can expect a response within just a few business days. All loan decisions are made locally. We will discuss the loan request with you, as well as the purpose of the loan and the history of your business. Any further financial information will be requested at this time. Please note, applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and complex requests may take additional approval time. Loan Closing/Funding Once the loan is approved and any required appraisals or other third-party reports are received, the loan will be ready for closing and funding. Depending on the type of collateral, this could be held in our office, at a local title company, or DocuSign via email. The funding process takes approximately 1-3 days. Relax and take a deep breath, you have officially completed the loan application process!
