ANNUALREPORT REPORT 2018 O-WEEK 2021

O-Week 2021 felt like a triumphant return to student life with 4,357 Gold Coast students attending the Guild’s O-Week Festival on campus, and total attendance of 7,446 across the week of activities. Due to the size and scope of the event, the Guild secured Queensland Government Local Health Unit approval for the flagship O-Week Festival, which included many new COVID Safe requirements, all made possible by our dedicated student volunteers. A key change in the festival format this year was the establishment of themed zones within the precinct to improve student navigation. This included a Club SignOn zone, Market Lane (corporate and community stalls), and a dedicated student services-based zone which included Griffith stalls. The Student Guild operated a large marquee in this space, with signage and messaging focussed on the student experience pathways of “Stay Active”, “Gain Skills”, and “Be Social”. These clear prompts gave students an easy message to connect with and reduced the overwhelm of where to start their student journey. One of the most memorable aspects of this year’s O-Week for Guild staff was engaging with 2020 students who, although not new, were coming to campus for the first time. Many students were keen to explore the on-campus experience they had missed, due to the necessity to operate online in response to the pandemic. 3
