How Were These Rankings Compiled? Learn more about the methodology behind Singapore’s most comprehensive and extensive survey of student opinions on graduate job applications, career expectations and today’s most popular employers.
or over a decade, the Singapore’s 100 team has surveyed fresh graduates and students at institutions of higher learning to find out which companies, firms and organisations piqued their interest as they enter the working world. Our Singapore Graduate Barometer survey is promoted on the official gradsingapore website (Singapore’s 100), university career centres, social media and through word-ofmouth among students. Each year, students from all universities across the nation complete the survey under anonymity, and it remains the key to honest insights regarding their career goals and job-seeking habits. Students first receive the survey, either via hyperlink or a physical copy at career surveys. Unlike typical employer brand surveys, however, they are first asked about the sectors they are interested in. Afterwards, the students are requested to disclose which particular organisations or firms they prefer.

Tips for the guide • Keen on a specific sector? Head to page 19 for more information. • Curious on what employers look for in potential hires? Turn to page 54 and find out what makes these high-flying graduates stand out! • Look up key information and job opportunities on Singapore’s Leading Graduate Employers from page 62 onwards.
With its quick completion rate (about 15 minutes), the survey boasts high numbers of responses and accuracy rates. It offers valuable and meaningful insights into student preferences, ethics and values when it comes to jobhunting. This system reflects the process most students undergo when making career choices regarding who they would like to work with. The survey not only compiles a list of Singapore's top 100 employers; it also provides a glimpse on how these companies rank among themselves within their own sectors. Field research took place from June 2025 to April 2026. In addition, the survey also provides insights on the differences between first-year students and those in their penultimate or final years regarding their job preferences. Dissimilarities between student learning and job interest can also be picked out. For example, compared to 2025, more students from IT and technology disciplines are interested in pursuing careers in the media and advertising sector.

Accounting and Financial Management From tax planning to daily financial management, graduate accountants enjoy a wide range of roles across industries and employers.
P
laying a critical role in a company’s strategic development, accountants are essential to businesses, regardless of industry. They ensure businesses’ compliance with relevant regulations and statutes by assessing their finances. The range of jobs in this field is diverse. These include management accounting, which transforms raw financial data into actionable business analysis, and specialisations, including tax and forensic accounting. Depending on the job and employer, some accountants may work onsite with clients instead of being deskbound for extended periods. With the increased prevalence of AI usage, digital readiness has since become fundamental for accounting roles in Singapore. Notably, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has formed a partnership with Infocomm Media Development Authority to launch an AI Fluency Programme to help accountants learn to utilise AI for core responsibilities. Meanwhile, the talent shortage for accounting still persists. In response, several recommendations, including increasing starting salaries and expanding entry pathways into accounting, have been implemented with significant success. For example, enrolment in the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification has doubled by 2024.

Graduate accountants may work with the Big Four accounting firms, boutique consultancies, or in the public sector. With recent initiatives launched by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, accountant careers are now more accessible to interested candidates who lack relevant degrees, such as the Accelerated Pathway Programme. Alternatively, most graduates complete their professional qualifications while working as junior accountants or in specialised training programmes. They may undergo rotations across job functions, offering deeper insights into the industry’s diverse opportunities. Aspiring accountants should have strong skills in analytics, organisation and communication. In addition, they should be well-informed about the latest developments in the sector.

Aviation, Transport and Supply Chain Join a fast-paced industry where change is constant, and embrace fresh challenges as the sector evolves to become more agile and efficient.
S
upply chains refer to the fast, safe and effective handling of goods, materials and services. Meanwhile, transport planning and management oversee the planning and facilitation of moving both people and cargo across land, air and sea. Organisations involved in supply chains include logistics and distribution enterprises, transport companies and courier services. For transport planning, major employers typically include local authorities, specialist consultancies, civil engineering firms and transport providers. The logistics sector as a whole has benefited from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as via the adoption of smart machinery, big data and AI. As a result of these developments, supply chains have now become more organised, transparent and efficient. However, with geopolitical tensions continuing to persist, they are likely to continue affecting global supply chains for the foreseeable future. Significantly, with the current conflict in the Middle East ongoing, jet fuel prices have risen sharply, with many global supply chains being disrupted as a result.

There are many positions and sub-sectors to choose from here, including roles in sourcing and operations, as well as support roles in finance and marketing. Moreover, the advancement and widespread adoption of technology have resulted in the creation of new jobs in data management and software management. Graduates are inducted into companies via training programmes, which provide them with a general overview of the sector before they choose their area of specialisation. Candidates should possess logical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills. In addition, stress management, negotiation skills and patience will prove useful during hectic periods. Despite macro disruptions in the industry, so long as global markets look to diversify their suppliers to increase their supply chains, the number and variety of job opportunities will likely remain high.

Banking and Financial Services Serving as a key part of the world’s economy, graduates in this sector play a crucial role in a variety of money matters.
O
perating as the core of the financial sector, bankers are responsible for handling cash, credit and other financial transactions. Employers include retail and insurance companies, as well as digital banks, which operate entirely online. There is a wide range of positions to choose from: portfolio managers help oversee investments for clients by maximising returns via strategic buying and selling, while risk managers look to mitigate market risk through analysing data with predictive mathematical models. Alternatively, graduates can also pursue roles in actuarial consultancies and relevant compliance firms, which are overseen by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Amid evolving cyber and technological risks, four key strategies have been outlined for financial institutions to strengthen their cyber and operational resilience. These include viewing disruptions from customers’ perspectives, mitigating third-party and open-source software risks in their IT supply chains, preparing for a “post-quantum” security environment, and developing multi-layered approaches to detect and counter cyber threats.

Those interested in this sector will need more than just a finance or business degree if they want to succeed here. Soft skills, such as leadership, being able to work under pressure and strong communication skills, are vital here. Moreover, competition for limited space in both graduate trainee programmes and entry-level positions can be fierce. As such, apart from submitting their applications early, candidates should consider pursuing relevant internships and work experience to enhance their competitiveness. Graduate hires typically start as analysts, with trainee programmes that offer departmental rotations for a more holistic understanding of the company. They may also shadow senior managers during client meetings, allowing them to pick up communication skills. After a few years, they will progress to junior or associate roles, assuming responsibility for managing both clients and stakeholders. Those who are client-focused, analytical and good with numbers will find themselves as highly valued assets to the company.

Consulting In the wake of uncertain business outlooks and uneven economic recovery, it is up to graduate consultants to assist enterprises with their goals and needs.
E
xpert consultants are often sought after by a variety of clients to solve specific business challenges by providing unbiased insight and recommendations. This can include improving the company’s profit-making capacity, effectiveness, market position and brand value. While some consultants may specialise in certain areas, such as HR and information technology (IT), others operate as generalists and provide general advice. Common responsibilities include conducting research, attending meetings, as well as developing and implementing recommendations. While considered a lucrative job with opportunities for global travel, this line of work is also highly competitive due to its high popularity. In addition, the constant and rapid shifts in trends and industry change all but guarantee that there will never be a dull moment working as a consultant.
Opportunities for graduates Consulting has a reputation for long hours, and can be a demanding career; most management consultants can work between 50 and 80 hours per week. Established firms typically recruit via graduate trainee programmes, though placements and internships are occasionally extended to students in their penultimate year. This allows them to get acquainted with the industry ahead of the normal recruitment cycle, while also impressing potential employers along the way. A passion for lifelong learning, strong business acumen and communication skills will be necessary for those looking to excel here. In addition, graduates must be able to adapt to changing business demands, highlighting the importance of staying updated and informed about their chosen specialisation.

Energy, Oil and Gas, Utilities With the existential threat of climate change looming, this industry has taken the opportunity to explore new and sustainable long-term strategies while remaining profitable.
T
his sector involves the exploration, development and management of natural resources. In addition, it also includes harnessing alternative energy sources, such as solar, wind and nuclear power. While Singapore lacks natural resources on its own, it is home to the world’s largest bunkering port, as well as companies with major refining and petrochemical operations. However, as opinions shift against the use of fossil fuels, Singapore now also aims to become a global clean energy hub. With the target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, more companies are developing technology to tap into regional power grids, low-carbon alternatives and natural gas. Given its equatorial location, solar remains Singapore’s most viable short-term energy resource. By 2030, the nation intends to deploy at least two gigawatt-peak of solar panels, which have been strategically deployed in areas such as rooftops and sheltered walkways.
Opportunities for graduates While this sector offers a diverse range of roles and positions, it also requires a variety of academic credentials. While commercial roles may not require specific degrees, technical ones call for qualifications in areas such as engineering or mathematics. Disruptions do occur in this sector on occasion, but it does not change the fact that power is a necessity for both households and industries alike. In addition, Singapore’s strategic location also attracts organisations to establish regional bases, offering new opportunities in exploration and production roles.

Engineering, Design and Manufacturing From aerospace to built environments, the best engineers combine high technical knowledge with efficient teamwork and client management skills.
E
ngineers play a critical role in shaping a variety of industries, from developing medical equipment to components for aerospace research and development. For those who find satisfaction in bringing their designs to life, as well as have an affinity for technical work, this sector may be a good fit. However, tight deadlines and demanding workloads are common, with little room for leeway. As engineers are expected to work on multiple projects at once, employers here highly value individuals with strong time and project management skills. Despite ongoing uncertainties in the market, a report from the Singapore Economic Development Board found that business sentiments overall in the manufacturing sector remains optimistic about business conditions from April to September this year. At present, the sector is still expected to grow, albeit at a more moderate pace. However, the nation is also facing a shortage of engineering talent as a whole. In particular, the civil engineering sector has formed a task force to provide recommendations to drive talent into the industry, including offering internships with higher salaries and improvements to current hiring practises.
Opportunities for graduates
Top rated employers
Historically, electronics and chemicals have been Singapore’s largest manufacturing clusters, employing a high number of engineers. While some employers offer graduate schemes to students, others may provide specialist programmes, which focus on applying technical know-how to general roles like marketing and management. In addition, while smaller firms hire for specific, entry-level roles, larger ones do so through competitive training courses. To gain an advantage, applicants should pursue relevant work experiences, like internships or part-time jobs. Apart from technical proficiency, soft skills like problem-solving, teamwork and project management are good to have. Having commercial awareness would also be a major plus for employers.

Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) With ever-changing consumer habits and expectations, this industry makes for an exciting and engaging one.
F
ast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) refer to products with a short shelf life that are sold quickly at relatively low costs, with common examples including food, toiletries and cosmetics. Due to the high demand for these goods, the FMCG industry revolves around rapid inventory turnover, product development and understanding consumer behaviour. Interested graduates will find themselves spoilt for choice in terms of employers, from local brands to multinational corporations (MNCs). In 2025, the United States imposed a baseline of 10 per cent tariff on all imports, with higher rates for certain countries. While this rate has only impacted about 55 per cent of Singapore’s domestic exports, consumer goods will likely still face the brunt of these tariffs, which have influenced production costs and business strategies for affected companies. Moreover, consumer preferences have become increasingly divergent, leading to them becoming more conscious of their spending as a result. As such, the FMCG sector is likely continue to face substantial challenges to both maintain and grow their customer base.
Opportunities for graduates The FMCG sector has many jobs open to interested candidates, from research and development (R&D) to HR. Larger firms often have training programmes that allow graduates to rotate through a range of roles before choosing their specialisation. Some may also offer general schemes to assess a candidate’s competencies across multiple sectors to determine the best roles for them. Recruiters will expect applicants to be familiar with the company’s brand and competitors, and will value those with an interest in corporate social responsibility. With the increase of AI usage in the sector, such as for parsing customer data and predicting market trends, graduates who are skilled in such technologies will be highly valued as well.

Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals Playing a pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s health, careers in this sector are both fulfilling and rewarding.
S
ingapore is known for its world-class healthcare system, ensuring that all citizens can access quality and affordable healthcare, with five of its academic medical centres ranking among the top 100 in Brand Finance’s Global Top 250 Hospitals 2025 Rankings. With a current focus on dealing with an ageing population, Singapore continues to strive towards providing quality and accessible healthcare for all. With Singapore expected to become a super-aged society this year, Singapore has been enhancing and diversifying measures to better care for senior citizens, such as building community care apartments and enhanced Home Personal Care service. Moreover, the Long-Term Care Support Fund, which provides support for CareShield Life, will receive a S$400 mil top-up. Additionally, as part of Healthier SG, general practitioners will start managing mild to moderate cases of anxiety and depression, with 23 out of 28 polyclinics now offering mental health services as well.
Opportunities for graduates Despite the variety of roles in the sector, most do require specific qualifications. These can include an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, accreditations by the Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB) and registration with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC). In addition, completing a residency — lasting five or six years in one of three sponsoring institutions — is required. Aspiring specialists will also need to enrol in Advanced Specialist Training (AST) programmes, where they undergo training for an additional six years. Alternatively, those without the relevant qualifications can explore non-clinical roles upon the completion and certification of relevant courses, such as supportive care and patient services. Other positions, like caregiving, will require additional training and qualifications. As for aspiring pharmacists, they must register with the Singapore Pharmacy Council (SPC), which includes pre-registration training and passing a competency exam. Those pursuing pharmaceutical research may also require postgraduate qualifications. Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Graduates joining this sector will find their expertise leveraged across a variety of areas, including health, food, and entertainment.
O
pportunities in this sector can stem from a variety of areas, from hotel management to other avenues like events, heritage tours and entertainment, allowing applicants to tailor their job search based on their interests. However, do keep in mind that shift work is very common in this line of work, which can also extend into evenings, weekends and especially holiday periods. Accounting for about four per cent of the nation’s annual gross domestic product, tourism in Singapore has been experiencing a strong comeback, with an all-time high of S$29.8bn in tourism receipts recorded in 2024. As part of efforts to further bolster tourism in Singapore, the Singapore Tourism Board launched a roadmap for the industry through 2040, which revolves around three pillars: cultivating future demand, enhancing Singapore’s appeal as a destination and developing a future-ready tourism sector.
Opportunities for graduates Recruitment within this sector is done year-round, with larger employers (such as those in hotel management) offering competitive graduate schemes. Candidates with retail or service-related experience, as well as those with established professional networks, will find themselves at an advantage here. New hires are typically rotated through various departments within the company to gain hands-on experience and exposure to different roles. By doing so, they can make a more informed decision on which career path they would like to pursue. While most job roles do not mandate specific degrees, some will still require specific certifications, such as those in culinary or facility management. Still, post-graduate qualifications in tourism or hospitality management are welcomed by recruiters. For non-managerial roles, candidates may face competition from non-degree holders, so having relevant work experience would be advantageous. Soft skills, such as strong interpersonal skills, adaptability and resourcefulness, will also be advantageous here.

Insurance and Risk Management This industry’s top priority is to safeguard clients and their assets against a wide range of risks.
T
he insurance industry serves to protect financial assets and individuals against unforeseen circumstances, such as accidents or sudden death. While larger firms tend to lead the sector on a global front, there are still smaller and newer companies in Singapore worth considering as employers. In 2025, Singapore’s general insurance industry was projected to grow at an annual rate of 6.4 per cent, according to GlobalData, due to regulatory developments, economic expansions, as well as an increasing demand for private health insurance. In particular, the life insurance industry is also expecting continued growth from 2024, despite challenges such as inflation and geopolitical tensions in recent years. Notably, with the rise of cybercrime cases, there is also now a growing demand for underwriters to help companies protect themselves against such risks.
Opportunities for graduates This sector offers a wide spectrum of careers, including corporate writing, personal insurance and reinsurance. Regardless, the objective remains the same: to protect the client’s financial assets. Currently, the hiring landscape is rather competitive, with companies all vying for talent who are not just tech-savvy, but also experienced in risk and compliance. In addition, candidates who have strong interpersonal and communication skills are also highly valued, given the client-facing nature of the role. For those looking into a career in risk management, certifications from external bodies may be required, with further accreditation often being a requirement for career advancement as well.

Investment Banking and Investment Management A demanding yet rewarding field, graduates in this sector are entrusted with making sound financial decisions on behalf of their clients.
D
ue to its reputation for promising career progressions and competitive salaries, there is no shortage of graduates looking to join this sector. However, it is also demanding and unpredictable; long hours and high-pressure situations will be common occurrences throughout one’s career. Work environments can be dynamic, with motivated employees able to assume responsibility early in their careers. However, career paths and progression can be volatile due to external factors, such as the current economic climate, geopolitical conflict and other market developments. For example, several of Singapore’s largest banks have shifted focus on their regional franchises, while also taking advantage of potential opportunities from the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, which was established in January this year. However, with the implementation of the United States’ tariffs, the sector is also likely to experience more market volatility amid increasing trade uncertainties.

Successful candidates typically start as investment analysts, who will study the company’s (as well as the industry’s) current performance. In some firms, graduate training programmes are offered, allowing new hires to explore different roles across departments, such as management and legal controls. Some banks are also open to internships as part of their recruitment process, which are popular options for those seeking industry experience. Alternatively, stockbroking firms can be considered as well; apart from buying and selling shares, they will offer financial advice to investors. There are also opportunities in insurance firms and investment fund trade houses as analysts, junior associates or junior traders. Roles in investment can also be found in other sectors, such as property development and the public sector. While a finance degree is not compulsory, a background in business, economics, mathematics or statistics will still be preferred among recruiters. In addition, some roles may require candidates to have a few years of work experience, though fresh candidates may still be considered in some cases. Successful applicants can anticipate some of the highest starting salaries in the field, but will need to stay ambitious to climb the ranks.

IT and Technology As the tech industry continues to advance and evolve, graduates, too, must keep up with the changing trends and remain informed about up-and-coming digital tools if they want to flourish here.
D
espite the challenges of 2024, including global economic uncertainty and significant restructuring across the sector, Singapore continues to strengthen its position as Southeast Asia’s leading technology hub. With an increased focus towards adopting AI in multiple sectors, there is expected to be a high demand for specialised professionals proficient in AI. Notably, more than 26 AI Centres of Excellence have been established in Singapore to accelerate AI innovation and adoption across industries. In 2024 alone, the number of AI practitioners grew by about 25 per cent, reflecting significant progress towards the nation’s aim to triple its AI workforce within five years. However, concerns about the IT sector’s environmental impact have also led to the launch of a S$30m research initiative to find more energyefficient methods of utilising digital technology and to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint as a whole.
Opportunities for graduates Graduates will find a range of opportunities across this industry, from technical roles like IT support and programming to more general roles like development and internal operations. Alternatively, they may seek employment in fields like banking, manufacturing or even the public sector. Additionally, entry roles can be found in smaller companies and startups that can potentially scale up to global enterprises under the right circumstances. To improve their operational performance, candidates who are able to handle big data will be preferred. While science-based degrees are not mandatory, graduates from non-IT backgrounds may need to bridge the knowledge gap to make up for it. An IT degree alone does not guarantee employment in this field; soft skills like commercial awareness will still be needed to succeed.

Property and Real Estate As this sector follows a cyclical trend, graduates will need to keep a close eye on when the property market heats up or cools down.
R
evolving around land development and sales, this industry enjoys a healthy demand for graduates due to its variety of job roles, whether with developers or investors. Firms typically operate in either one or a combination of markets: commercial, residential or rural. However, as the sector is closely linked with both the construction and financial fields, activity can fluctuate accordingly. Compared to 2025, the gross domestic product of the sector is expected to grow at a slower pace this year. Notably, external factors like escalated geo-political tensions and a rise in risk-off sentiment expected to continue impacting the market currently. Additionally, the Draft Master Plan 2025 was officially gazetted by the Urban Development Authority, with it being a land use blueprint to guide for Singapore’s development over the next 10 to 15 years. Under this plan, at least 80,000 new public and private homes are expected to be built in over 10 new neighbourhoods across the country.

This industry includes a large variety of roles that include the purchase, management and sale of properties, some of which have potential for high earning opportunities. However, some jobs will require professional certifications, such as those from the Real Estate Agency or by completing a Real Estate Salesperson course. Taking up internships, especially with estate agents in the public sector, is a useful way to gain valuable work experience. In return, recruiters can offer top interns full-time employment at a later date. Alternatively, opting to work at a smaller firm typically means getting more opportunities to gain on-field experience, such as handling ongoing property deals. For those looking to climb the corporate ladder, soft skills like commercial awareness, communication and analytical skills are vital. Moreover, the volatility of the property market means that it is necessary to stay informed about the current trends in the market, both domestically and internationally.

Public Sector For those looking to make a positive impact on the lives of their fellow citizens, the public sector is the ideal platform for those looking to make a difference.
F
or those passionate about helping others and the nation, the public sector is an ideal place to start. As Singapore’s largest employer with approximately 150,000 officers under its employ, it boasts diverse opportunities across 16 ministries and over 50 statutory boards. While some can opt for frontline roles, such as in education, healthcare and social services, there are also behind-the-scenes positions available, like policy drafting. Administrative and executive roles also make up a large chunk of the public sector, which involves assisting in rolling out initiatives that shape the lives of Singapore’s citizens. As the use of digital services in the public sector increases, Singapore continues to drive digitalisation within the government to offer better and more efficient services to both citizens and businesses. With the launch of Smart Nation 2.0 in 2024, it aims to achieve three key goals: Trust, Growth and Community, to improve the lives of Singaporeans through technology. Efforts towards these goals include the introduction of the Digital Infrastructure Act in 2025 to improve the resilience and security of digital infrastructure and services, as well as the launch of several initiatives to boost broad-based adoption of AI in the country.

Unlike in the private sector, jobs in the public sector tend to be more resistant to pay cuts and layoffs, making it an appealing choice for those worried about job stability and security. Starting roles can vary depending on personal interests, ranging from educators to foreign service officers. From there, graduates can be recruited from specialist fields to general positions in the civil service or via graduate schemes. While employers are open to graduates from diverse backgrounds, do note that there is a higher emphasis on paper qualifications as compared to the private sector, with some applications requiring academic transcripts during the hiring process. Soft skills such as strong interpersonal skills, adaptability and a drive to make a positive impact on others are also highly valued here.

Scientific Research and Development In addition to having specific technical expertise, interested candidates must be detail-oriented and passionate about solving real-world problems.
D
eemed as the heart of innovation, the efforts of research and development (R&D) are considered instrumental in overcoming the constraints of Singapore’s size and limited resources. Graduates can expect to put their academic and creative capabilities to the test, working with top companies and researchers to develop solutions for not just national, but global benefit. With a consistent investment of about one per cent of Singapore’s GDP, the nation’s R&D sector has continued to be one of its key pillars for economic development. Building on the progress achieved in its past iterations, 2025’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) Plan intends to focus on three areas: to expand its mission to tackle a broader range of national needs, enriching Singapore’s scientific base and upscaling platforms to drive technology translation to strengthen the nation’s capability for innovation. In addition, Budget 2025 announced that about S$1bn would be invested to upgrade biotech and medtech infrastructure in Singapore, as well as to build a new semiconductor R&D facility to maintain the nation’s capabilities in biotechnology and semiconductor research.
Opportunities for graduates Due to the specialised nature of this sector, applicants must be equipped with the necessary qualifications, skills and work experience. Scientific roles in R&D are available across a range of industries, including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, sports science and the public sector. Apart from lab work, researchers may also engage in field work and administrative tasks. Additionally, occasional shift work, overtime, or weekend hours may be required on the job, especially for projects requiring international collaboration. While a doctorate is not compulsory, post-graduate qualifications will be needed to apply for research-based jobs. As these roles tend to be data-intensive and outcome-focused, candidates will need to demonstrate strong technical, analytical, research and organisational skills, along with a keen eye for detail.

STRIVING TO CREATE VALUE
ADRIAN WEE Associate Director, Workplace, People Team, Changi Airport Group (CAG) 2007: Joined the National Environment Agency’s Corporate Development Team 2010: Moved to Changi Airport Group (CAG) to establish and build up the Workplace Transformation function 2014: Led CAG’s first Workplace Transformation, developing a new workplace strategy and concept that reshaped how the organisation works 2025: Delivered Terminal X, CAG’s first innovation hub, and Changi Axis, its enterprise event space 2026: Leading Workplace Transformation 2.0, driving portfolio-wide flexibility and experience-led workplace planning
“CAG sets a high bar and holds you to it, and that standard develops you faster than any course could.”
How did you get into your current line of work?
How was your path to leadership?
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Building) at NUS, I started at an interior design company, drawing up quotations and coordinating with subcontractors on site. Through this, I started to learn how a workplace comes together. At the National Environment Agency, I gained further insight into the other side of the equation: how decisions are made, and how to secure budget approvals. Neither stints felt like a career calling at the time. Eventually, when I moved to CAG in 2010 to build up the workplace function, the role drew on both experiences, leading me to where I am today.
There was no single development that changed everything. It was being handed projects that cut across divisions, where every stakeholder had valid points, even if those points often contradicted one another. It is in such situations that you learn to lead. The turning point for me was CAG’s first Workplace Transformation from 2014 to 2017, when I had to set the direction, secure management support, and keep a large team aligned through years of changes.
Essential skills
When I first started, planning an office usually meant counting things: desks, rooms, pantries, square metres. Today, we begin by asking what people actually come into the office to do, then validate those assumptions against utilisation data, which tells us which spaces are used and which sit empty. The biggest shift is not the technology. It is that a workplace project is first and foremost a change management project, and only then a construction project. Get that order wrong, and you risk ending up delivering a beautiful office that nobody uses.
I would say three skills: (a) Stakeholder engagement, because almost no workplace decision is purely technical, and the people whose support you need often do not report to you; (b) Financial discipline, because even the best design will not get built if you cannot justify the investment. And (c) People management, because I have never built anything on my own. Every project depends on cross-divisional teams, consultants and contractors, and having capable people aligned towards a common goal is often harder than the delivery itself. Most of this I learned on the job. CAG sets a high bar and holds you to it, and that standard develops you faster than any course could.
What I enjoy most about my job
My advice to graduates
Handover day is always memorable. You spend two years discussing and refining something that exists only on drawings, and then people walk in, use it, and tell you what they think by lunchtime. Last year, we opened Terminal X, CAG’s first innovation hub, and Changi Axis, our own flexible event space. Together, they contributed to CAG winning an industry award for Most Innovative and Sustainable Office Design. While the award was a proud milestone, the real fulfilment comes from watching a floor plan turn into a place where people choose to spend time.
Focus on creating value before you worry about being ambitious. Most graduates chase the best title. The ones who progress fastest are often those who take on the unglamorous work nobody wants and see it through, until delivering results becomes their reputation. Build flexibility into how you think, not just what you know, and stay curious beyond your own discipline. That is often where the next opportunity is hiding.
The industry then and now

GOING BEYOND RESPONSIBILITIES
MUHAMMAD NURFARIZ BIN NURRAMADAN Senior Audit Associate, BDO Singapore 2022: Graduated with Diploma in Accountancy and Finance 2024: Joined BDO LLP as an Assistant Audit Associate 2025: Promoted to Audit Associate 2026: Promoted to Senior Audit Associate 2026: Graduated with Advanced Diploma in Accountancy
“A basic understanding of accounting is important, but much of the practical knowledge comes from hands-on experience.”
Getting started
Then and now
I chose audit because I wanted to build a strong foundation in accounting and gain exposure to different businesses and industries. In 2024, I joined BDO as an Assistant Audit Associate through the Work-Study Advanced Diploma programme offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I was attracted to the opportunity to gain handson exposure to different areas of accounting. My first few months were a steep learning curve as I moved from learning accounting concepts in school to applying them to real-world situations.
Initially, my biggest challenge was bridging the gap between studying and working. I was mainly focused on learning how to perform individual audit procedures and complete my assigned tasks. Now, I am more focused on managing my time, coordinating work and ensuring that audit timelines are met. I have also started looking beyond my own tasks and considering how my work contributes to the overall engagement and the firm.
About my job My job involves identifying and addressing risks of material misstatement in financial statements. This includes understanding the client’s business, gathering and documenting audit evidence, and discussing findings with clients and my team. What makes audit interesting is that there is always something new to learn, whether it is technical knowledge, soft skills or simply how different businesses operate. The challenging part is managing tight deadlines while maintaining the quality of my work.
What I enjoy most about my job What I enjoy most is the continuous learning. I have learned a lot from my clients, seniors, managers and peers. As I gain more experience, being able to share what I have learned and guide others is equally rewarding. I also enjoy the problemsolving aspect of audit, where I must think critically and work towards a reasonable solution.
Essential skills I believe communication, critical thinking, and willingness to learn are essential. A basic understanding of accounting is important, but much of the practical knowledge comes from hands-on experience. I developed these skills by working on various engagements, learning from my team, and being exposed to diverse clients and industries.
Advice for graduates Audit can be demanding, but my advice is to keep an open mind because there is something to learn from everyone and every task. Persevere through the challenging periods and do not expect yourself to know everything immediately. Over time, you will be surprised by how much you develop, both professionally and personally. Most importantly, do not take things too seriously. Learn from your experiences and enjoy the journey.

ENGINEER OUR TOMORROW
TAN LE YING Consultant, Member Digital Applications Department (MDD), Central Provident Fund Board 2025: Graduated with a Bachelor of Computing in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from Nanyang Technological University, joined CPFB’s NextGen programme as a Consultant. 2026: Joined MDD’s AI Task Force and transferred to MDD’s Operations Team
“Stay curious, be open and you will be surprised where it takes you.”
Getting started
Then and now
I have always believed technology can do more than solve technical problems - it can create real, meaningful change in people’s lives. That belief brought me to CPFB’s NextGen programme, where I could learn, grow, and explore different areas of work to find where I could make the most impact. I started as a Consultant in the MDD, and worked on projects that enhanced CPFB’s member-facing digital services. This role challenged me to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and better understand user needs in order to deliver quality member experience.
When I joined CPFB, I was initially daunted because my background was in data analytics and AI, while my role centred on software development, business analysis, and stakeholder management. Despite the learning curve, I was fortunate to have a team that encouraged me to learn through hands-on experience. Today, the challenges look different. They come from navigating increasingly complex problems, balancing diverse needs, and making decisions in situations without clear answers. Over time, I found that staying curious, asking questions, and seeking different perspectives often leads to better solutions. Those experiences have made me a more confident collaborator and problemsolver.
About my job I work on initiatives that enhance CPFB’s member-facing digital services, from websites and dashboards to online forms. My role involves partnering stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions and delivering projects from concept to implementation. I am also on rotation with MDD’s Operations team and contribute to my department’s AI Task Force, where I apply my AI background to explore productivity improvements and gain broader exposure across the technology landscape.
What I enjoy most about my job I enjoy the meaningful work and the people I get to learn with. I am surrounded by colleagues and mentors who push me to challenge myself, and being part of the NextGen cohort meant I had a close-knit group of peers to navigate the transition from university to working life with. That support makes all the difference. I also find fulfilment in seeing my projects come into fruition, and knowing they make a difference to our members, especially when friends and family use CPFB’s services. Moments like these reminds me why I chose a career that combines technology with public impact.

Essential skills Communication is one of the most important skills in this role, as I work with people from diverse teams and backgrounds. While technical knowledge is valuable, the ability to bridge technical and non-technical perspectives is often what enables our teams to align on a common solution. You do not need to have all the answers from day one. A curious mindset and willingness to learn will help you connect the dots and grow in the role.
Advice for graduates Over time, I realised that asking questions is one of the fastest ways to learn and being willing to step outside my comfort zone opened me up to opportunities I otherwise would not have had. Stay curious, be open and you will be surprised where it takes you.

THRIVING IN A DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT
Getting started
Then and now
I have always loved Changi Airport and wanted to work here. Although I studied Mechanical Engineering in NUS, I decided to join the ARFF (aircraft rescue and firefighting) service in CAG’s AES because it involves frontline airside operations. My first role was as a Duty Officer at Sembawang Air Base (where ARFF service is provided by CAG), providing ARFF coverage for RSAF helicopter operations with a team of fellow firefighters. It gave me a strong sense of responsibility, knowing that we played a critical role in ensuring the safety of aircrew during emergencies.
Earlier in my career, I served as a shift leader overseeing teams of firefighters. One of the key challenges was balancing operational responsibilities with administrative work, as both are equally important to the successful running of a unit. Today, in an office-hour manpower role, my challenge is centred more on fostering and driving an innovation culture across AES. While the nature of the challenge has evolved, overcoming both requires strong interpersonal and project management skills. The difference lies in the scale, from leading and supporting a single unit to driving change across the wider division.
About my job
JUSTIN ONG Staff Officer, Future Operations, Airport Emergency Service (AES) Changi Airport Group (CAG) 2019: Graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore 2020: Joined CAG’s Airport Emergency Service (AES) as a Duty Officer 2022: Promoted to Assistant Manager 2025: Rotated to AES Headquarters (HQ) as a Staff Officer 2026: Promoted to Manager
“Being part of the responsibility to ensure the safety of travellers, visitors and staff at the world’s most awarded airport is something I take great pride in.”
My current role involves identifying, developing, and implementing AES’s future operational capabilities, ensuring AES remains innovative and effective as airport operations continue to grow and evolve. One of the most interesting aspects of the job is exploring new technologies in the market and assessing how they can be applied effectively within the ARFF industry. One of the key challenges is helping our crews adapt to new technologies, processes, and ways of working. Balancing innovation with operational readiness and ensuring successful change adoption are important parts of the role.
What I enjoy most about my job What I like most about my job is knowing that the work I do makes an impact and difference to our passengers and firefighters. Being part of the responsibility to ensure the safety of travellers, visitors and staff at the world’s most awarded airport is something I take great pride in.
Essential skills ARFF is a highly specialised field, and operational experience is valuable in understanding the realities of the job. Strong interpersonal and project management skills are equally important, helping me to engage vendors, evaluate solutions and address operational challenges faced by firefighters on the ground.
Advice for graduates It is not necessary to have a firefighting background to join AES. What matters most is having an open mind, a willingness to learn, and the courage to try new things. With the right attitude, you may discover a rewarding and fulfilling career in AES.

BUILDING PASSION AND CURIOSITY
LOW AI NING Radar System Analyst, DSO National Laboratories 2023: Completed a semester internship at DSO National Laboratories, was awarded the DSO Merit Scholarship 2024: Graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). Joined DSO National Laboratories as a Radar System Analyst 2026: Represented DSO at the European Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (EUSAR) in Germany
“Complex system problems require not only technical knowledge, but also the willingness to learn continuously and integrate perspectives from different disciplines.”
Getting started
What I enjoy most about my job
I have always been fascinated by remote sensing technologies, which led me to take on a university project involving Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite image processing. SAR systems use radar signals and advanced signal processing techniques to generate high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface in all weather conditions, day and night. The project involved challenging signal processing techniques, and while I managed to complete it, I felt there was still much more to understand about SAR systems, which was what drew me to the field. That curiosity led me to an internship at DSO in 2023, where I worked on SAR firmware development. During the internship, I was impressed not only by the complexity of the work, but also by the culture. Technical discussions are driven by ideas rather than seniority, and everyone is encouraged to contribute alternative perspectives. I eventually joined DSO after graduating from NTU EEE in 2024.
I enjoy discovering solutions to difficult challenges that improve our systems through collaboration. In systems engineering, successes are shared and so are the challenges. Because every subsystem is interconnected, collaboration across different domains is essential. I am fortunate to work with colleagues who encourage me to challenge their assumptions, while also openly sharing their expertise to help me overcome challenges in my own work.
About my job As a Radar System Analyst, my day-to-day work is a combination of technical analysis, continuous learning and collaboration across disciplines. I develop analyses and simulations to understand how different design choices affect SAR system performance, while learning new concepts through research and technical discussions. The insights we uncover help improve system performance and guide engineering decisions, making the work both challenging and rewarding. One project I am particularly proud of involved developing an end-to-end optimisation workflow for system design. This reduced a process that previously required months of manual iteration to approximately one day of optimisation runs, allowing engineers to explore design trade-offs much more efficiently.
Page 58 | SINGAPORE’S 100 Leading Graduate Employers 2026
Then and now When I first joined DSO, my biggest challenge was understanding how SAR systems function as a whole. The complexity spans from imaging concepts, signal processing techniques, software implementations to hardware limitations. Today, my focus has shifted from understanding the system to improving it through identifying performance bottlenecks, evaluating tradeoffs and generating new insights.
Essential skills The most important skills for my role are analytical thinking, curiosity and collaboration. Complex system problems require not only technical knowledge, but also the willingness to learn continuously and integrate perspectives from different disciplines.
Advice for graduates Do not be afraid to take on problems that seem difficult or unfamiliar. Stay curious, ask questions and learn from those around you. Some of the best opportunities for growth come from stepping outside your comfort zone and tackling challenges that initially seem beyond your abilities.

CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
Getting started
Then and now
In my final year at university, a conversation with a senior about Singapore’s education system challenged me to “be the change” I wanted to see. I took up a teaching internship at my alma mater and rediscovered my purpose in helping young people learn and grow. I studied Geography because landscapes reveal stories of the past while continuing to evolve and inspire awe. After I joined teaching, I taught Geography at a school and worked in the Curriculum and Planning Division at HQ. In my current secondary school, I explore student development through student leadership, contributing more holistically to students’ growth.
Earlier in my career, I focused on improving my teaching practice. Today, as a leader, I think more deliberately about how effective practices can be refined, scaled and sustained. I am also entrusted with developing my colleagues’ strengths and supporting their growth. This has broadened my perspective from individual effectiveness to building collective capacity.
LENA TEO YING HUI
About my job
Subject Head/Student Leadership Development, Ministry of Education
I work with student leaders, including student councillors and class committee members, who contribute actively to school life. My team and I adopt a coaching approach, empowering students to articulate their vision and translate ideas into action. I ask probing questions, provide structure and support, and help them explore their agency. Often, the challenge is helping students turn mistakes and setbacks into learning opportunities.
2016: Started teaching career at Peicai Secondary School 2021: Joined MOE HQ, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Humanities Branch 2024: Joined Zhonghua Secondary School as Subject Head, Student Leadership Development 2025: Awarded the MOE Outstanding Contribution Award (Individual) 2026: Awarded the MOE Outstanding Youth in Education Award
“The most meaningful moments are often small: a quiet student finding their voice, or another stepping forward to act on an idea.”
What I enjoy most about my job What fulfils me most is creating safe opportunities for students to step beyond their comfort zones, discover their strengths and grow. I enjoy helping youths recognise that they have much to contribute when their potential is unlocked. The most meaningful moments are often small: a quiet student finding their voice, or another stepping forward to act on an idea. Over time, these shifts nurture confidence, purpose and a belief that they can make a difference.
Essential skills Teaching requires a deep belief in every individual’s potential, along with patience and empathy. Student development is at the core of what we do—whether we are teaching Geography or supporting students’ broader development—and the results may not be immediately visible. A reflective disposition is also essential; continually refining our practice and honing our craft helps us educate a changing generation in a rapidly changing world. Finally, be adaptive: placing students at the centre means tailoring our approaches to their diverse needs and profiles.
Advice for graduates Approach teaching with an open mind and a willingness to learn. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and no teacher works alone. Bring your experiences and creative ideas to the wider education ecosystem while learning from more experienced educators.

SANTHYA VALLUVAR Deputy Manager, Tuas Terminal Yard Planning, PSA Corporation Limited 2021: Graduated with a degree in Environmental Science from NTU, joined PSA’s Global Management Associate Program 2022: Joined the Tuas Port Development Team, contributing to the planning of future development phases of Tuas Mega Port 2024: Joined the Tuas Service Excellence team, managing the transition of PSA’s largest customer and joint venture to Tuas Phase 1 2025: Took up a 2-month overseas posting at PSA Belgium
“Schedules, cargo volumes, and operating conditions can change quickly, so we need to make fast, informed decisions while balancing competing priorities.”
Getting started
Then and now
The opportunity to rotate across different roles in PSA’s Global Management Associate Programme was appealing, with international exposure being a major plus point for me. I got the chance to start off as a Ship Planner on shift, which provided me with a strong foundation in container terminal operations. As I took on more responsibilities, including leading a shift team, I gained a deeper appreciation of how complex port operations are, and the different teams who work together to keep cargo moving.
Starting out in PSA, the biggest challenge here was the steep learning curve of port operations. Rotations across operations, customer management and PSA Belgium gave me a deeper understanding of the business. Today, I manage multiple priorities and stakeholders with greater confidence. These experiences have helped me approach challenges from different perspectives and work effectively across teams and cultures.
About my job
Adaptability, communication, and the ability to see the bigger picture are essential. Port operations are dynamic, and it requires you to learn quickly, collaborate effectively, and understand how your decisions affect the wider operation. You do not need an industryspecific degree to succeed. I studied Environmental Science, and much of my operational knowledge came through hands-on experience and rotations at PSA. Curiosity and willingness to learn matter more than your academic discipline.
I am currently part of the Tuas Terminal Yard Planning Team, where we ensure containers moving through Tuas Port are stored and transported efficiently. Day to day, I monitor vessel connections and yard capacity, plan yard resources, and coordinate across teams to keep operations running smoothly. What makes the role interesting is the scale of what we do: thousands of containers move through the port, and every decision can have a ripple effect across the entire operation. The biggest challenge is managing uncertainty. Schedules, cargo volumes, and operating conditions can change quickly, so we need to make fast, informed decisions while balancing competing priorities. It is also what keeps the role dynamic.
What I enjoy most about my job I enjoy solving complex, fast-moving problems, and working with different teams to turn a plan into tangible results. There is also a strong sense of purpose in knowing that the work we do impacts everyday lives in Singapore and around the world.

Essential skills
Advice for graduates Stay curious and say yes to opportunities that come your way, even if they fall outside your comfort zone. Your first role may not be exactly what you imagined, but every experience is valuable and can uncover your hidden strengths. Rather than trying to map out your entire career from day one, focus on building skills, relationships, and perspectives. The path often becomes clearer as you go.

SAFEGUARDING THE FUTURE
Getting started
Then and now
I joined the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) in 2021, after six years in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Development. I am most grateful for those earlier stints, which exposed me to a wide range of sustainabilityrelated workstreams that I am passionate about. However, I was seeking a role that would allow me to leave a deeper imprint and make a difference. I found that at SFA, as one of four Deputy Directors responsible for food supply strategies. The work is both deeply meaningful and impactful, allowing me to apply my training in public administration and economics.
When I first joined SFA, I had very little appreciation of the complexities, intricacies and nuances of the agri-food ecosystem. Up to that point, my work had been in climate, sustainability and international finance issues. The learning curve was steep, but my colleagues made all the difference. Today, while the challenges are no less complex, I am better able to navigate them by drawing on the experience, knowledge and networks that I have built over the years.
DENIS TAN
About my job
Director (Supply Chain Resilience), concurrent Director (Contingency and Operations Risk Management), Singapore Food Agency
I am privileged to work with 28 inspiring colleagues every day. Our team monitors risks affecting Singapore’s food supply and safety, drives food supply strategies, develops capabilities to strengthen supply chain resilience, formulates contingency plans, and drives operations excellence, governance, as well as workplace safety & health efforts.
2014: Graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Double Degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics 2015: Graduated from Columbia University with a Master of Public Administration 2021: Joined the Singapore Food Agency 2024: Appointed Director responsible for food resilience and contingency management 2025: Recognised with National Day Award (Public Administration Medal (Bronze))
“The work is both deeply meaningful and impactful, allowing me to apply my training in public administration and economics.”
What I enjoy most about my job There are two equally fulfilling parts to the job. First, seeing novel initiatives to strengthen food security come to fruition after months or even years of work, such as the Memoranda of Cooperation on Rice Trade that was signed with three economies in late 2025 and early 2026. Second, seeing my colleagues and I build new capabilities that will help us not just do things better, but also achieve greater things, such as an AI bot that a colleague developed to sharpen and strengthen how we monitor and share risk events.
Essential skills Skills can be acquired with time; I think attitude and values are more important, particularly curiosity and humility. Curiosity to want to find out the issues obstructing us from achieving an even more resilient food supply, and humility to be willing to ask anyone and everyone, whether industry or agency partners, to get the right answers or set us on the right path towards them.
Advice for graduates Read widely and voraciously to appreciate how global developments affect trade and food security, not just for Singapore but the world.

Tan Qinghui Deputy Director, Veterinary Office As a veterinarian in Singapore, working with the Veterinary Office in the Singapore Food Agency has afforded me opportunities I had not anticipated. My work has extended beyond crafting regulatory policies in our office to our sunny local farms. I also work across government agencies, participate in overseas source accreditation of livestock/food of animal origin, and collaborate with regulatory agencies in other countries. It has continually challenged me to learn, adapt and grow. I have also had the opportunity to dive into the unique field of aquaculture, and I am grateful to be part of initiatives that strengthen Singapore's food security and food safety. The diversity of these experiences has made this career both intellectually stimulating and deeply fulfilling.
