ARCHITECTURAL & DESIGN SERVICES Our team of architects, technicians and designers have many years of combined experience in architecture and design from inception through to completion. We have a strong track record in delivering design excellence and innovative, inspiring projects. We act for many clients including landowners, private individuals, charitable bodies and developers across the South West region, dealing with all stages of the RIBA plan of work from concept design to on-site inspections on a variety of design and project types. CONCEPT TO COMPLETION Our experienced team can offer architectural services from the initial inception through to completion on site. Our advice is tailored to suit the needs of the individual to produce creative solutions to suit the brief. Our technical and environmental knowledge, design and construction management are as important as design. However, the design is the driving force throughout the project and beyond. Once appointed we can prepare feasibility studies and carry out due diligence to ensure the proposal is feasible, not only from a design approach but also with regards to potential planning constraints, by working closely with our in-house planning consultants. The initial design process aims to identify and maximise design opportunities and fully explore a range of solutions before arriving at a final scheme. At a very early stage in its generation, any design concept must take into account a great number of issues and variables. We consider qualities of space, connections, relations and aspects between spaces, including how they are put together, as well as the impact of proposals on the immediate and wider locality.
In addition, the selection of appropriate materials and technology must be considered and the site location and context will also influence the design. We develop the requirements with the client and manage design consultants such as structural engineers and energy assessors to ensure the design is coordinated. We will create a design concept that meets both the specifications of the client and provides a solution suitable to the proposed use.

Our services extend to include the submission of the planning applications and discharging of any conditions required. Upon receipt of the permission we are able to proceed to obtain building regulations approvals. We have the technical expertise within the team to take the project through building regulations and if required, to competitively tender the works and carry out on-site inspections.

We have worked with the team for many years to carry out planning applications, building regulations and construction drawings. This is on both new build and barn conversion projects. Their drawings are good quality, accurate and produced within the timescales agreed, which makes dealing with them easy and enjoyable. CONSERVATION We take an active role in historic building conservation and our expert knowledge in this field is co-ordinated by our team of experienced professionals sensitive to the specific needs of individual historic buildings. Our understanding of conservation policies and principles gives our clients confidence when dealing with alterations to listed buildings, and the conversion and redevelopment proposals. The professional team within our Development Land and Planning department have a detailed understanding of the specialist requirements in dealing with conservation projects. We maintain close working relationships with conservation officers at local authorities throughout Somerset, Devon and Dorset, and maintain a sound understanding of planning policy and practice in this particular area.
Our aim is to gain a detailed understanding of our clients’ needs, and through a process of negotiation with planning and conservation officers, to achieve design proposals that meet these goals whilst satisfying the local authority’s and Historic England’s conservation requirements.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT Our architectural team offers full project management services from inception to completion alongside the architectural and design services, the nature and extent of which will be tailored to suit our client’s requirements and the type and complexity of the project. We manage multi-disciplinary consultants both in-house and externally and draw upon the expertise from these disciplines when required.
