Action Greensboro has launched a creative and ambitious
strategy to recruit Boomerangs back home to live in Greensboro. Boomerangs are people who grew up in Greensboro or attended a local college and then moved back after spending time away. Boomerangs are unique because of their familiarity with Greensboro, local roots with family and friends, and special appreciation for the growth our community underwent while they were living elsewhere. The presence of young people in Greensboro is a direct reflection of our city’s health and well-being, and these individuals and families fuel economic growth. Like many other mid-sized cities across America, we continue to make our community attractive to “young transitionals”. And, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted interest to mid-sized communities like Greensboro for our better quality of life and cost of living. Since the official launch of the Boomerang Greensboro campaign in the fall of 2020, Action Greensboro has reached out to over 250 Boomerang prospects and provided services to dozens of talented individuals looking to return to Greensboro. In a short time, we have recruited 27 boomerangs back to Greensboro! The time is ripe to strategically attract talented young people to relocate to Greensboro. The Boomerang Greensboro campaign was launched with the generous support of a local foundation. The start-up funds have proven the model and we need business support to continue and grow our momentum. At its core, the Boomerang Greensboro campaign is an economic development driver for our community bringing more talent for employers, more business start-ups and entrepreneurs, increased home sales and property tax for the City of Greensboro and Guilford County.
