Girl Scout Partner Style Guide Thank you for partnering with Girl Scouts. We're so excited that you're working with our girls, providing them experiences they can't get elsewhere. You are an integral part of our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Below you'll find everything you need to know when talking about Girl Scouts.
What to do. Refer to us as Girl Scouts whenever possible. Stay away from Girl Scouts of the USA or Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes. The terms petal & badge are not capitalized and only refer to earned awards. The term patch is not capitalized and refers to fun patches which recognize an event, outing, or theme but are not earned.
Use our grade levels. Daisies: grades K–1 Brownies: grades 2-3 Juniors: grades 4-5 Cadettes: grades 6-8 Seniors: grades 9-10 Ambassadors: grades 11-12
What to avoid. Overuse of nonspecific words like fun, cool, amazing, and awesome; instead, make your point by describing what is fun/cool/awesome References to “girl power.” Speaking on behalf of GSUSA, a Girl Scout council, or a Girl Scout member (in their Girl Scout capacity) to endorse companies or products. Qualifying a partnership (e.g., as “firstever” or “national”) before confirming the claims; check with us before using such a phrase.
