Welcome: Let’s make the Girl Scout sign and say the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law together. Would anyone like to lead it? Introduction and icebreaker: Today we’re going to talk about what it means to be a friend to nature whenever you’re outside. What is something awesome you’ve seen in nature? Activity 1: Learn the Leave No Trace principles. Supplies: Leave No Trace handout When you go outside, nature is all around you. It’s the plants, animals, insects, mountains, oceans, stars, trees, clouds, and everything else not made by people. When we explore, it is important to Leave No Trace, which means we take very good care of nature while we’re there. Take turns reading each Leave No Trace principle. Ask the Girl Scouts: • •
Why do you think it is important to Leave No Trace? What are some ways you can Leave No Trace in nature?
Activity 2: Design a poster. Supplies: Coloring supplies, paper One of the ways Girl Scouts can Take Action in their community is sharing what they have learned. We’re going to make posters showing all the ways you can care for the environment. Pick one of the seven Leave No Trace principles that we just learned, and create a poster to show others how they can follow that principle in nature. Be as creative and colorful as you’d like! When you go home, share your poster with your family and talk to them about it. Is there a place where you can hang it up and see it every day?
