Daisy Kit - Introduction

Page 1

Dear New Daisy Leaders, Congratulations on starting your journey as a troop volunteer. You are making a difference in girls’ lives as well as creating memories and having tons of fun! This bag contains 11 kits, each containing activities you can choose from to earn Daisy petals or the Promise Center. Petals are one of the Girl Scout badge types Daisies can earn, and they are themed around the values within the Girl Scout Law. Most of the supplies you need for each activity are included in the kits. Besides the items included in the kit, what else will I need to run my meetings?

Girl Scout Law

e

One packet of Daisy petals for each girl in the troop. These are available in our online or in-person shops: https://www.girlscoutshop.com/Daisy-Petals-Set.

e

One ream of white paper for drawing activities. A few tablets of art paper would also work well for this purpose.

e

Durable art supplies including markers, crayons, pencils, scissors, and glue. Many new leaders ask families to bring in one of each item to add to the troop kit, so there is one per girl.

e

Some meeting activities require a few additional supplies which are not included, such as food items, water, dishes, etc. Don’t worry—most of these items are ones you have on hand! Make sure to read through the meeting plans and review the included items before your meeting, so you can gather anything else you might need.

e

Some of the optional activities require some short pre-work, such as inviting a guest or texting parents to ask them to bring items to the meeting. Preparation won’t take long, but it is an important step!

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do,

and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Girl Scout Promise On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law. *Members may substitute for the word “God” in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.

Is there a particular order we should earn the petals in? We recommend doing the Promise Center meeting plan first, as it is set up to be one of the first troop meetings. However, the rest of the Daisy petals can be earned in the order that works for you. One way to start adding in the girl-led focus would be to let girls vote on which one they would like to earn next! Do we have to do ALL the activities on the meeting plan sheet to earn that petal? No! It is all about helping the girls learn the concepts. Most activity plans include five or more activity ideas, and you can choose just three to earn the petal. In addition, if you want to modify the activity idea or come up with your own activities that teach this value, that is great too!
