Cookie Rallies Service Area Event Guide
Welcome! A cookie rally is a fun way to prepare Girl Scouts for the upcoming Cookie Program! Think of a cookie rally as a pep rally, practice run, training camp, and celebration all in one!
▶▶ Council Support Our Council staff will support your Service Area Cookie Rally in a number of ways: • Guides. Both cookie bakers create cookie rally guides. They will contain activity ideas related to the theme and the cookies, as well as artwork. If you don’t have them already, request the guides from your Council staff representative. • Cookies! Just ask your Council staff representative for cookies in time for your event—they are free of charge! • Cookie Reward samples. Our Council only has a few of these sample sets before the program begins. Request a set from your Council staff representative and we’ll do everything we can to get you a set for your event. • Promotion. A social media graphic and flyer is attached for promoting your cookie rally to troops and families. Your Council staff representative can also assist you with the promotion of the event. • Patches. Every Girl Scout who attends a cookie rally will receive a free cookie rally patch. When the Troop Cookie Manager places the cookie rewards order, they can also order a cookie rally patch for each Girl Scout who attended a rally. Hint: Remind the troop leaders who attend your Service Area rally how to get cookie rally patches. If you don’t find everything you need in this guide—we can help! Contact us with questions, comments, or suggestions via an email to info@gsnwgl.org.
▶▶ Planning Your Event • Cookie rallies are normally held two weeks prior to the beginning of the cookie sale. This allows troops, girls, and parents enough time to gear up for the season. • Start by creating a budget and choosing a date, time, and location.

• Determine the style of your cookie rally. If you will have fewer than 25 participants, choose the Activity Schedule. In this model, the whole group stays together and runs through each activity together. If you will have a larger group, choose the Station Schedule. In this model, you will break the group into 4 smaller groups and rotate them through each of the 4 stations. It is a good idea to start and end the event together so you can give instructions to start and end the event with a motivational message. • Figure out how many volunteers you will need to help the day of the event. You might need 1 volunteer for each station. Volunteers can also help with set up and clean up. Ask other troop leaders in your Service Area to help, ask parents, and ask older Girl Scouts. • Determine the activities or the stations. Use the ideas below and browse the cookie rally guides for ideas. Hint: For each activity create a supply list and the directions for leading the activity. You can use the supply list for shopping and packing up your supplies and the directions for preparing your volunteers to help with the activities.
▶▶ Sample Activities Get to Know the Cookies Try the cookies! Break up the cookies that you receive for your cookie rally. Add a few more ingredients- for example, pretzels, mini marshmallows, etc. and create a cookie trail mix. While the Girl Scouts eat their trail mix, ask them questions about the cookies available this year.
Practice Your Sales Pitch This activity can be more fun using hand puppets or props/costumes. Ask the Girl Scouts to knock on a door. (You can use a real door or just “knock” on a table.) The volunteer running the station should come to the door as a character. Ask the Girl Scouts to practice selling cookies to this “customer.” Ask the “customer” to ask the Girl Scout a typical question that the Girl Scouts will hear when they sell cookies. For example: What kind of cookies do you have? What are you going to do with the money? Do you have a gluten free cookie? How much do the cookie cost?
Set Your Goals Show the Girl Scouts the rewards. Ask the Girl Scouts about what their troops plan to do with the money they make. Ask them if there is a reward they are hoping to earn. Ask each Girl Scout to set a goal for their cookie season. Make beaded bracelets. Provide number beads so each Girl Scout can put their goal on their bracelet.
Explore the Theme Learn more about the animal mascot. Share facts about the animal with the Girl Scouts. Learn how to and practice moving like the animal. Have a relay race where the Girl Scouts move like the animal across the room, then back to their teams.
