Go-Getter Problem Solver World Changer

Girl Scouts shine the brightest when they’re making the world a better place—dreaming of a better tomorrow by taking action in big ways today.

Girl Scout Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

The Girl Scout Program

Grounded in the Girl Scout Promise and Law, Girl Scouting is an experiential, cooperative education program that promotes girls’ personal growth and leadership development. Partnering with caring adults, girls design fun and challenging activities that empower them and raise their voices within a local, national, and global sisterhood.

Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try: to serve God* and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

*Members may substitute for the word God in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.

Congratulations to the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award Recipients.

Juniors earn the Bronze Award by teaming up with other Girl Scouts to make a difference in their communities. They gain essential leadership skills and learn that even seemingly small actions can make a big impact.

Cadettes earn the Silver Award by researching an issue, making a plan to address it, and then taking action to improve their communities. They gain confidence and skills that will catapult them to Gold Award success—all while creating positive change.

After much research, Lydia realized that music impacts the brain by enhancing senses and releasing dopamine, and allows students to further discover themselves. Girl Advisory Board

The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes Girl Advisory Board (GAB) is a dedicated group of 8th–12th-grade Girl Scouts from across the council. The GAB provides ideas, guidance, and girl-driven recommendations on projects and initiatives aligned with the council’s strategy to the GSNWGL staff and board of directors. Members of the GAB will provide critical insight into which programs should be offered, how to attract and retain members, and ideas to increase awareness of the Girl Scout Movement. The GAB exists to ensure that Girl Scouts’ voices are heard.

After serving one year as a GAB member, Girl Scouts are eligible to serve on the board of directors as Girl Members. The board of director girl members will serve as the GAB chair and vice chair. Girl Scouts are encouraged to reach out to GirlAdvisory@gsnwgl.org to ensure their ideas and voices are heard.

Meet Our Girl Advisory Board Executive Team

I’ve been a Girl Scout since Daisies, and this is my third year as a GAB member. As GAB Chair, I lead our meetings and help the group set our goals for the year. I even got to speak at the Women of Influence Conference! My favorite Girl Scout memories are from Girl Scout Camp and also going to historic Savannah, Georgia. My favorite Girl Scout cookie is the Caramel deLites. I love to perform—in fact, I’m currently on my 19th musical and my 31st theatre performance!

I’m currently in my 11th year as a Girl Scout and have served as a GAB member for two years. My favorite Girl Scout memory was working on my Silver Award. I taught an American Sign Language class at my local library. I also met Patti, the CEO of GSNWGL, at my Girl Scouts of Distinction event, where she told me about GAB! I am an advocate for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, as I am deaf, and I have two cochlear implants. My favorite cookies are Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties!

I have been in Girl Scouts for 13 years and earned my Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards. I was initiated into GAB in 2022, and my favorite Girl Scout memory was a trip to Pax Lodge and Europe with Girl Scouts from across the United States. My favorite Girl Scout cookie is Thin Mints. A fun fact about me is that during high school, I volunteered over 325 hours and was part of 12 extracurricular activities.

After 5 years, GSNWGL recognizes individuals for their Years of Service to Girl Scouts in 5-year increments.

After 40 years, GSNWGL recognizes individuals for their Years in Girl Scout Membership in 5-year increments. Years of Membership recognitions include combined years of membership both as a youth and an adult member.

Girl Scout Years of Service and Girl Scout Membership are self-reported. If you have earned one of these special recognitions, we’d love for you to tell us! Please email us at info@gsnwgl.org with your information.

Change a life— starting with yours.

You Are Exactly Who Girls Need Share Your Spark.

Behind every Girl Scout shining brightly is someone who showed up—someone who listened, encouraged, and believed in her potential. That someone could be you, or someone you invite to join you in the difference you’re making. If you’re already a volunteer, you’ve seen the impact one caring adult can have. Now imagine what’s possible when we grow that circle? There’s always room for more caring adults to make a difference. You don’t need any special experience to get involved—just a passion for helping Girl Scouts learn, grow, and have fun.

Invite a friend, colleague, or family member to join you. Together, you can multiply your impact and make sure every girl has the support she deserves. Learn more today!

gsnwgl.org/volunteer

This year has been nothing short of extraordinary. As we reflect, we celebrate the resilience, passion, and impact of our Girl Scouts, along with the incredible community that supports them.

To our Highest Award recipients, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Award Girl Scouts, you saw possibility where others saw limitations. Congratulations, and thank you for your efforts and for the lasting impact you have made in your communities. Through your projects, you expanded access to music and the arts, increased opportunities to connect with nature, created welcoming spaces like community and pollinator gardens that nourish both people and the environment, inspired sustainable choices through youth programs, and protected wildlife by creating habitats, raising awareness, and sharing practical solutions. You brought critical issues into the light by advancing mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and support for individuals experiencing homelessness, while also educating others through initiatives focused on safety, sustainability, and community connection. From building instrument libraries, launching orchestra and pickleball programs, and creating shared music experiences, to partnering with organizations, advocating for change, and fostering belonging through efforts like letters to incarcerated youth, these Girl Scouts have led with courage, compassion, and vision, leaving their communities stronger, more connected, and full of hope.

To our graduating Girl Scouts and scholarship recipients, this moment is both a milestone and a beginning. Your Girl Scout journey has shaped you into a confident, compassionate, and capable leader, grounded in skills and values that will guide you wherever you go next. The courage you have shown, the connections you have built, and the compassion you carry forward are not just part of your story, they are part of the change you will create in the world. As you take your next steps, whether in education, careers, or new adventures, remember that you are forever part of a movement rooted in courage, confidence, and character. We are proud of who you are and inspired by who you are becoming.

To our extraordinary volunteers and adult award recipients, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your leadership is rooted in care, compassion, and a deep commitment to something greater than yourself. You show Girl Scouts what it means to lead with purpose, to lift others up, and to take action in ways that create lasting change. Because of you, girls grow into leaders who look beyond themselves and feel a responsibility to make their communities stronger, kinder, and more inclusive for all. Your impact reaches far beyond what can be seen, shaping not only today’s Girl Scouts but generations to come. Thank you for your time, your passion, and your belief in the power of girls.

As we look ahead, we invite each of you to continue your journey of impact. Take on new challenges, give back in meaningful ways, and stay connected to the values that make Girl Scouting so powerful. The world needs more people who lead with empathy, who act with courage, and who are committed to making life better for others. The world needs more individuals who care deeply and show up fully. The world needs more Girl Scouts.

With gratitude and excitement for what’s to come!
