Legendary American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. His biggest inspiration came from graffiti. Kicked out of his parents’ house at seventeen, Basquiat had to work odd jobs during the day so that he could paint during the night.

Alma Thomas is undoubtedly one of the superstars of American Abstract Expressionism. Working as an art teacher her whole life, Thomas started a full-time artistic career in her seventies. However, her age did not stop her from creating truly remarkable works.

The African American Museum at Fair Park has free admission Tues-Sat 11am-5pm. They also host frequent workshops and events!
The South Dallas Cultural Center hosts many programs and events throughout the year! Admission is free Tues-Sat 9am-5pm.
Daisha Board Gallery is a contemporary art gallery representing BIPOC artists, LGBTQ+ and artists with disabilities locally and abroad. They feature many mediums including mixed media, sculpture, photography, performance art, and digital media.

Soul Rep Theatre Company exists to provide quality transformative Black theater. Their mission is to shift the paradigm of how the Black experience is valued. Their shows explore rich and diverse Black experiences, and they have worked with GSNETX to put on workshops that both empower and illuminate the history of Black art.
The Black community has long struggled for the freedom to wear their natural hair without social or economic repercussions. This has often been reflected in a lack of representation in the arts, including movies and television, and video game art.
