SummerFest at GSL Summer is just around the corner, which means so is SummerFest! For over 30 years, GSL has offered summer programs to boys and girls in the Memphis area - regardless of school affiliation. We offer a variety of programs for every interest, from sports, science and reading to hip hop, math and art. GSL's SummerFest provides a safe and fun environment each week, while giving your child the opportunity to experience something new and create long-lasting friendships. Camp Policies:

SummerFest 2022 @ GSL is open to all students entering JK through eighth grade, regardless of school affiliation. Programs for rising PK students are for returning GSL students only. Programs are limited and fill up quickly, so register now on UltraCamp. Program fees must be paid in full for your child to be considered registered. All programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cancellations must be made via email to Emily Merrell, Director of SummerFest, five business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be given for absences or cancellations within five business days. Campers may not be registered for a partial week. GSL reserves the right to reschedule, modify, or cancel a program. In the event of a cancellation by the school, a refund for closed camp days will be issued. GSL may also add a program after the print date of this brochure. If registered for a morning camp, drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. Morning-only campers should be picked up at 12:00 p.m.; afternoon-only campers should be dropped off at 12:45 p.m. The last pick-up time of the day is at 5:00 p.m. A late pickup fee of $5 per minute, due at time of pickup, will be charged for any child who remains after 5:30 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off for rising PK-SK campers will be at Miss Lee's Preschool (1760 Peabody Avenue). Pick-up and drop-off for rising 1st-8th grade campers is on Lemaster Street outside of the cafeteria (250 Lemaster Street). It is expected that every camper attending SummerFest adhere to the school's procedures and standards of behavior, which can be located in the handbook online at gslschool.org. GSL reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose behavior becomes unmanageable or who is disruptive to SummerFest activities. Additionally, by registering in SummerFest camp, families agree to adhere to all of GSL’s COVID-19 policies and procedures.GSL is currently mask optional, although the school reserves the right to ask students to mask during gatherings or change this policy as needed. Campers are asked to pack a mask in case there are times a mask is needed. We ask that you please not send your child to camp when they are not feeling well. If your child develops cold/flu/Covid-19-type symptoms while at camp, you will be contacted and asked to come pick them up as soon as possible. By registering for SummerFest, you agree to allow GSL to publish photos, artwork, videos, podcasts, and any other materials created by your children or featuring your children, in both online and printed communication materials for GSL, unless you notify the SummerFest Director in writing otherwise. Celebrate the stories and art of award-winning author and illustrator Eric Carle. We will spend this fun-filled week exploring his art-making strategies, rediscovering his stories, and making our own original works of art and fiction.

There is something about preparing your own food that makes it special. Campers will read books like Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog and Dragons Love Tacos, then practice their fine motor skills as they prepare their favorite, fun foods from the stories.

A Pirate's Life for Me

Love to play pretend and go on amazing adventures? Then join us on this magical theatre expedition where we’ll explore the jungles of the pink polka-dotted elephants, dive into the deep sea, coming face-to-face with a giant purple striped octopus, and search for the enchanted magical wands of Arabia. Campers will create a daily themed craft and explore a new imaginative world!

YoHoHo! Grab your compass and come sail across the seven seas in this “arrrghsome” camp where mateys will learn to talk like pirates and search for buried treasure!

We have some exciting news, Pete the Cat fans! Pete’s adventures will continue this summer. Every day, we will read a new Pete the Cat book, then do groovy activities associated with the story. Your child will create fun crafts, sing/dance to Pete’s groovy songs, and even take adventures in our magic sunglasses. Come join us for this fun Pete the Cat Book Club experience.

In this camp, kids will use a wide variety of art mediums and techniques painting, collage, watercolor, glue, drawing, clay, and more. We’ll do lots of process based art projects and sensory play to keep it fun and messy! Kids will bring home a portfolio of projects at the end of the week.

Go on your own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces, produce a fossil reconstruction, use iPads to discover even more about dinosaurs. Little paleontologists will take home lots of cool daily dinosaur projects!

Campers are sure to have a ball during this movement-based camp. Learn and play a variety of games and sports, including soccer, four square, basketball, floor hockey, capture the pins, kickball, and dodgeball.

It’s “sew" much fun! Campers will learn the basics of hand sewing using kid-friendly tools. Create your own fun fabric projects including pillows, stuffed animals, clothing, and embroidery pieces. No needle experience is necessary.

The Wonderful World of Harry Potter

Survive, build, code and more in this popular, pixelated program! Campers must have an online (computer use) Minecraft Account. (Xbox and Pocket Edition versions of the game do not provide an online account. Online accounts need to be purchased and verified at minecraft.net prior to camp.) In case of login difficulties, campers must bring a written copy of their verified and tested Minecraft username and password to camp.

It doesn’t matter if you use Floo Powder, hitch a ride on the Hogwarts Express, or commandeer a flying car to travel… just get yourself to this camp for mornings of mischief, a week of wizardry, and a summer of spells. We’ll solve puzzles, do brainteasers, go on Quidditch Quests, and much more in this Harry Potter-inspired camp.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the world? Find out as you take a dive into the languages and cultures of five different countries spanning multiple continents. Each day, campers will participate in a world language instruction followed by a cultural lesson centered around games, crafts, and diverse food.

Campers will spend the week working on a lap-sized quilt while also making other cuddly projects. Skills such as patchwork, machine sewing, and garment sewing will be taught, so no needle experience is necessary. While we will have shared sewing machines, campers with their own machines are encouraged to bring them to use throughout the week.

It’s Reading Time: The Mystery on the Oregon Trail Joyce Bruno & Carrie Galphin $135 + $10 book fee Rising 3rd-4th 8:00am-12:00pm Come join us as we read The Mystery on the Oregon Trail by Carole Marsh. We will read the book and complete projects and fun activities that go along with living in the 1800s.

Garageband Recording Camp Russ Thompson $135 Rising 5th-8th 8:00am-12:00pm If you have always wished you could write and record your own music, you will want to learn Garageband! After learning the basics, collaborate compositions with your peers and complete your original recordings. Campers are encouraged to bring instruments if they play any, but it’s not mandatory. Drums and acoustic, electric, and bass guitars are provided.

Escape GSL: Glow in the Dark Edition

Calling all junior architects and interior designers! Make everything imaginable for your very own twostory mini-mansion to take home at the end of camp. Design a dollhouse, superhero lair, or a garage. The possibilities are endless!

Put your super-sleuthing skills to the test by solving riddles, unlocking padlocks, and entering different codes to escape a mystery room before time runs out. Can you beat the clock?
