SummerFest at GSL Summer is just around the corner, which means so is SummerFest! For over 30 years, GSL has offered summer programs to boys and girls in the Memphis area - regardless of school affiliation. We offer a variety of programs for every interest, from sports, science and reading to hip hop, math and art. GSL's SummerFest provides a safe and fun environment each week, while giving your child the opportunity to experience something new and create long-lasting friendships. Camp Policies:

SummerFest 2021 @ GSL is open to all students entering JK through eighth grade, regardless of school affiliation. Programs for rising PK students are for returning GSL students only. Programs are limited and fill up quickly, so register now on UltraCamp. Program fees must be paid in full for your child to be considered registered. All programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cancellations must be made via email to Emily Merrell, Director of SummerFest, five business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund (less a $25 cancellation fee). No refunds will be given for absences or cancellations within five business days except in the event a camper must be absent due to a COVID-19 quarantine lasting three or more days. Families are responsible for notifying the Director of SummerFest of this absence/cancellation immediately upon starting the quarantine in order to receive a prorated refund. Campers may not be registered for a partial week. GSL reserves the right to reschedule, modify, or cancel a program for reasons such as, but not exclusive to, insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or a COVID-19 related closure. In the event of a cancellation by the school, a refund for closed camp days will be issued. GSL may also add a program after the print date of this brochure. If registered for early morning care, campers may arrive between 7:30-8:20 a.m. If registered for a morning camp, drop off is at 8:30 a.m. Morning-only campers should be picked up at 12:30 p.m.; afternoon-only campers should be dropped off at 1:00 p.m. The last pick-up time of the day is at 5:00 p.m. A late pickup fee of $5 per minute, due at time of pickup, will be charged for any child who remains after 5:30 p.m. All pickups and drop-offs will be done at designated carpool locations, which will be communicated with families prior to the start of camp. It is expected that every camper attending SummerFest adhere to the school's procedures and standards of behavior, which can be located in the handbook online at gslschool.org. GSL reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose behavior becomes unmanageable or who is disruptive to SummerFest activities. Additionally, by registering in SummerFest camp, families agree to adhere to all of GSL’s COVID-19 policies and procedures. Campers who are experiencing symptoms of a communicable illness or disease will be separated from the group, and a parent/guardian will be contacted immediately and asked to make arrangements to pick up the camper. Expedient action to pick up the student within the hour will be required for his or her own personal care. SummerFest will follow GSL’s protocols for any child who is experiencing COVID 19 symptoms. By registering for SummerFest, you agree to allow GSL to publish photos, artwork, videos, podcasts, and any other materials created by your children or featuring your children, in both online and printed communication materials for GSL, unless you notify the SummerFest Director in writing otherwise. Health Standards GSL holds its vendors to the same standards as the school’s faculty and staff. All instructors are provided with a copy of the school’s health and safety procedures, policies, and protocols to ensure compliance. While on campus and conducting classes, vendors and instructors commit to:

Complete GSL’s COVID19 screening upon arrival

Maintain small group sizes to allow ample individual spacing

Maintain and implement physical distancing of 6 feet or greater

Keep classes limited to maintain cohorting.

Wear masks unless outdoors and spaced apart appropriately

Provide individual materials and equipment only if properly sanitized or disinfected between uses

Follow proper cleaning, sanitization, and disinfection procedures based on CDC guidance

Wash or sanitize hands before and after each class, and whenever hands are soiled

Beginning paleontologists learn about dinosaurs and the techniques used in extracting fossils in this hands-on class. Go on your own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces, produce a fossil reconstruction, create a mural, use iPads to learn more about dinosaurs…and take home lots of cool daily dinosaur projects!

Chess is for everyone, even preschoolers! Beginners will learn about the amazing game of chess through play, songs, and crafts.

It’s “sew" much fun! Campers will learn the basics of hand sewing using kid-friendly tools. Create your own fun fabric projects including pillows, stuffed animals, clothing, and embroidery. No needle experience necessary.

Get ready to be rocked! This camp is designed for campers who love science and features tons of space-related science experiments that are out of this world. Explorers will go on a planet walk, create nebula art, design a space rocket, and so much more. Join us for a cosmically fun time!

LEGO Movie Magic Bits, Bytes & Bots $225 Rising 5th-8th 9:00am-12:30pm Create awesome stop-motion animated movies complete with titles, credits, and sound effects. All supplies including LEGOs and tablets are provided, but students are encouraged to bring to class their own LEGO pieces or other action figures. At the end of camp, the movies will be sent out to families for in-home viewing and enjoyment.

We’ll follow the same strategies and processes to conduct our own crazy science experiments. Along the way, you can explore your own ideas for how to improve the world around you using strange science.

Print & Papermaking Art Camp Sarah Langford $135 Rising 1st-2nd 9:00am-12:30pm

If you’re ready to try creative art making beyond the pencils and paint, this beginner’s print and papermaking art camp will teach you the basics. We’ll learn to make ooey, gooey paper pulp from natural plant fibers and form it into paper. Using bold mono prints and screen prints, we will create easy, beautifully bound books.

In this class, we will uncover the art of cross stitching! Each camper will not only learn the basics of cross stitching but will also work on a fabulous project to take home. Come discover that art can be more than paint and paper!

This camp is designed for students who love science and want to learn more about space. Each day will be filled with space related science experiments. The space explorers will learn how to create their own planetarium, design nebula art, fashion a robotic arm like the one that astronauts use, and so much more.

Dash is a robot that will respond to voice commands, navigate objects, dance, and sing. Students will give Dash new behaviors and meet challenges by using drag-anddrop coding. Experienced LEGO builders beware…many of our robot designs are quite complex. Kids will use new skills to meet challenges such as using light and ultrasonic sensors to navigate through terrain or battle an opponent at Robot Sumo.

Each camper will need to bring a copy of Carole Marsh’s book, The Rip-Roaring Mystery on the African Safari. We will bring this book to life through amazing projects and activities. Can you solve the mystery?

Performance Camp Erin Lindberg $160 Rising 3rd-4th 9:00am-12:30pm Calling all actors, directors, and designers: Let’s produce a play! Campers will take on all roles in creating and performing an adapted work for the stage and perform it the final day of camp. We will record the final performance for friends and family to enjoy at home.

Don't just play games - learn how to create them! Campers will use game creation software to program their own PC-based video game. They will learn about sprites, objects, events, and actions. Campers will make scoring systems, multiple levels, and even add sounds. Campers will take home their finished game on a CD at the end of camp.

Do you like cartoons? Channel your inner graphic artist and learn to create your own animated cartoons on the computer.

Dash is a robot that will respond to voice commands, navigate objects, dance, and sing. Students will give Dash new behaviors and meet challenges by using drag-and-drop coding. Experienced LEGO builders beware…many of our robot designs are quite complex. Kids will use new skills to meet challenges such as using light and ultrasonic sensors to navigate through terrain or battle an opponent at Robot Sumo.

Baby, I’m a Star! Leslie Reddick $135 Rising 5th-8th 1:30pm-5:00pm Everybody is a star! Come learn how to let your star shine through all that you do. We’ll learn to dress for every season, walk the runway with confidence, picture ourselves in the best light, and learn to talk the talk! Campers will need to be able to bring their own clothing for photo shoots.
