Welcome to SummerFest at GSL Summer is just around the corner, which means so is SummerFest! For over 30 years, GSL has offered summer programs to boys and girls in the Memphis area - regardless of school affiliation - and I am proud to have been a part of the last nine. We offer a variety of programs for every interest, from sports, science and reading to hip hop, math and art. GSL's SummerFest provides a safe and fun environment each week, while giving your child the opportunity to experience something new and create long-lasting friendships.

Camp Policies SummerFest 2019 @ GSL is open to all students entering JK through eighth grade, regardless of school affiliation. Programs for rising PK students are for returning GSL students only. Programs are limited and fill up quickly, so register now at gslschool.org. Program fees must be paid in full for your child to be considered registered. All programs are filled on a first-come, firstserved basis. Cancellations must be made via email to Emily Merrell, Director of SummerFest, five business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund (less a $25 cancelation fee). If not cancelled before this time, no refund will be given. Campers may not be registered for a partial week. A late pickup fee of $5 per minute, due at time of pick up, will be charged for any child who remains after 5:30 p.m. GSL reserves the right to cancel a program due to insufficient enrollment. Refunds will be issued for any such cancellations. GSL may also add a program after the print date of this brochure. It is expected that every student attending SummerFest adhere to the school's procedures and standards of behavior, which can be located in the handbook online at gslschool.org, Choose GSL, Parent Resources. GSL reserves the right to dismiss any student with a discipline problem or who is disruptive to SummerFest activities. By registering for SummerFest, you agree to allow GSL to publish photos, artwork, videos, podcasts, and any other materials created by your children or featuring your children, in both online and printed communication materials for GSL, unless you notify the SummerFest Director in writing otherwise. Tutoring GSL is offering private, one-on-one tutoring. We offer instruction for students in math, reading, science, as well as ISEE tutoring. Our goal is to build confidence and understanding while instilling independent learning skills that students can apply throughout the child’s learning career. Swimming PK-SK: Group Lessons Swim lessons will be taught by long time swim instructor Audra Eickhoff. Group lessons are available from 2:00pm-2:45pm for rising JK/SK & 2:45pm-3:30pm for rising PK/JK Group Lessons - $35/week. A Musical Adventure – From Classical to Rock Rising PK 8am-12pm Allison Lewis $150

Campers will hear and dance to lots of music from different genres, learn about rhythm and instruments, and do rockin’ arts and crafts.

There is something about preparing your own food that makes it special. Campers will learn to bake a cake, create their own pizzas, make homemade popsicles, and more in this yummy camp.

Big Art Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Kelsey Beagle & Jamie Bell $150

Campers will use a wide variety of art mediums and techniques – painting, collage, watercolor, glue, drawing, clay and more. Kids will get their very own sketchbook to work on all week and bring home a portfolio of projects at the end of camp.

No paint brushes here! Campers will paint with plungers, basketballs, and more. They will explore with clay and even do a fluid painting project. It’s going to be big fun for our littlest campers!

In this action-packed camp, young scientists will create slime, bounce bubbles, launch seltzer rockets and much more! Campers will have fun exploring and expanding their curiosity through science.

Get your passport ready to dive in to amazing cultures and learn about different artistic expressions from all over the world. Learn how to do Japanese printmaking, Scottish felting and Aboriginal dot making, to name a few.

Hip-Hop Fitness & Fun Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Robert Ward & M-Town Image $150 An irresistible opportunity for our younger campers to develop coordination skills and have fun learning various dance movements with today’s hottest music. Showcase on Friday for the parents.

Sewing School Jr. Rising SK 8am-12pm Amie Plumley & Lily Thompson $150 Create your own fun fabric projects including pillows, stuffed animals, clothing, embroidery and more. No needle experience necessary.

Week 3 June 17-21 Bug Out! Rising PK 8am-12pm Lily Thompson $150 Get acquainted with some creepy crawlies! Campers will learn about various insects through literature, science, and art. We will also have insect-inspired treats and an insect finding expedition. Come Bug Out with Ms. Thompson!

Gymnastics Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Wings Gymnastics $245 Come join the fun! Learn beginning and intermediate skills on floor, bars, balance beam, and vault (mini tramp). Develop flexibility, strength, coordination and confidence, which promote focus and healthy habits for life.

Tinkering Tots Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Computer Explorers $240 Calling all young architects, engineers, and play aficionados. We will build multiple structures each day while working with different themes. Each theme will include several literature connections, crafts, games, and songs. Campers will learn basic engineering, design, and architectural skills through building and connecting. Let’s get tinkering!

Sculpture Club Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Sarah Langford $150 Join Ms. Sarah for a wonderful week of sculpting with clay, model magic, metal, fabric and more! Great for developing fine motor skills and young imaginations.

Little Dribblers Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Computer Explorers $240 Little Dribblers will have a blast experiencing the fun of both basketball and soccer in a fun and nurturing environment. Our program works with the basics of soccer and basketball, including, but not limited to, hand-eye coordination, ball handling, footwork, dribbling, shooting, passing, and scoring a goal.

The Art of Eric Carle Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Sarah Langford $150 Come celebrate the stories and art of awardwinning author and illustrator Eric Carle. We will spend a fun-filled week exploring his art-making strategies, discovering his stories and making our own original works of art and fiction.

A Pirate's Life for Me Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Jeanette Walton $150 YoHoHo! Come sail across the seven seas in this “arrrghsome” camp where campers will learn to talk like pirates and search for buried treasure!

The Wonderful World of SK Rising SK 8am-12pm Jeremie Upshaw & Mallory Key $150 This program will introduce GSL students to the routines of SK and Lower School by taking a tour around campus and meeting some of the SK teachers. For GSL rising SK students only.

Week 5: July 8-12 Pumped for PK Rising PK 8am-12pm Deborah Lowe $150 Learn everything there is to know about Miss Lee’s. Meet your teachers, learn routines, and have fun with this camp exclusively for GSL rising PKers.

D is for Dinosaur Dig Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Computer Explorers $240 Beginning paleontologists learn about dinosaurs and the techniques used in extracting fossils in this hands-on class. Go on your own fossil dig, analyze and assemble skeleton pieces, produce a fossil reconstruction, create a mural, use iPads to learn more about dinosaurs… and take home lots of cool dinosaur daily projects!

Literacy Camp Rising JK 8am-12pm Mallory Key & Kirsten Horton $150 Reinforce your literacy and reading skills through reading, songs, writing, games & more!

Spanish Music Camp Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Cynthia Goodfellow $150 We will listen to many different types of music, including salsa and reggaeton, to stimulate our brains. Just think of the amygdala as the DJ and the brain as the dance floor. We will also make shakers, maracas, y cascabeles for home!

Week 6: July 15-19 Exploring the World through Art Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Cynthia Burnett $150 Campers will create art and listen to stories from countries all around the world.

Then join us as we go on treasure hunts, sing with the seals, dance with the rhinos, and act out our own jungle story! Campers will create costume pieces and will end the week with a performance for parents!

Get Messy! Rising PK 8am-12pm Katie Longoria & Meg Burress $150 Put on your play clothes and get ready to enjoy some messy, sensory fun! Campers will get handson with paint popsicles, shaving cream, and more!

Camp Paw Patrol Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Ashley Blake & Savanna McCarty $150 Take to the air with Skye, learn how to be safe with Chase and Marshall, build and recycle with Rubble and Rocky, and explore the jungle and seas with Tracker and Zuma! Preschoolers will love learning all about the jobs of their favorite Paw Patrol characters in this fun, hands-on class

Deborah's Little Divas & Dudes Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Deborah Lowe $150 Boys and girls will pamper themselves, create crafts and even make “spa juice” in this spa-themed camp.

Animals in Spanish Rising JK-SK 8am-12pm Cynthia Goodfellow $150 We will review the basic animals of cat, dog, and mouse; and we will add in farm animals such as rabbit, cow, pig, and horse. Using hand movements paired with the Spanish animal names will help retention.

SummerFest For rising 1st through 8th grade students. 7:30a.m. - Early Care (free) 8a.m.-12p.m. - Morning Camp Sessions 12-1p.m. - Lunch *Lunch is only for children registered for both morning and afternoon sessions. 1-5 p.m. Afternoon Camp Session 5-5:30p.m. - After Camp Care (free) *All campers much be picked up by 5:30. Clues, Codes, & Ciphers, Oh My! Rising 1st-4th 8am-12pm Elizabeth Bayzie $125 If solving mysteries and breaking codes is your idea of fun, then THIS is the camp for you! We will solve riddles and mysteries, crack codes, create ciphers, write secret messages, and design our own stories using coding apps. First Aid 101 – CPR Instruction Rising 5th-8th 8am-12pm Nina Callan, RN, BSN $125 Become CPR certified for babysitting, lifeguarding, or to possibly save a life. Each camper will receive a CPR Certified card at the end of the week.

Funky Fairy Tales Rising 1st-3rd 1pm-5pm Sara Ralston $125 Play goofy games, create crazy art, write silly stories and cook kooky snacks based on different versions of fairy tales we all know and love. I Scream for Ice Cream Rising 1st-4th 1pm-5pm Ashley Blake & Antoinette Johnson $125 Make homemade creations everyday including ice cream, yogurt and sherbet! We will make friendship bracelets, go on a scavenger hunt, and so much more! LEGO Movie Magic Rising 1st-4th 1pm-5pm Bits, Bytes & Bots $150 Learn to make a stop-motion animated film that uses LEGOs and other characters to tell a story. Perfect for campers who want to direct movies or who like making up stories. Ukulele Camp Rising 1st-6th 1pm-5pm Janet Webster $125 Learn to play the ukulele in this fun music camp! Campers will learn to perfect 2-3 songs for a short parent performance at the end of the week. Beginner & experienced campers welcome, but must bring your own ukulele. The required organization skills as well as attention to detail and timelines will prove to be invaluable in other areas of life. Week 3: June 17-21 Battle of the Blades Rising 1st-4th 8am-12pm Raniah White $125 Battle your friends in this camp that is all about Beyblades. We will build obstacles, have daily challenges, and even have a tournament on Friday.

Deborah's Salon Rising 1st-4th Girls Only 8am-12pm Deborah Lowe $125 Get a head-to-toe makeover at Deborah's Salon. Campers will learn about hair care, nail care, and how to pamper themselves. Theatre Magic Rising 1st-5th 8am-12pm Erin Lindberg $125 Ever wonder how they create those cool, special effects on stage? Learn about special effects makeup, create “weigh-nothing” boulders, and learn to make costumes for the theatre. Dodgeball Extravaganza Rising 2nd-6th 8am-12pm Debbie Callahan $125 Play exciting variations of dodgeball and other ball games using foam balls. Campers will be divided by age to enjoy the excitement and fun of this traditional game with a new twist. Week 3: June 17-21 Pokémon® Camp Rising 1st-4th 1pm-5pm Ashley Lamar $125 Campers will play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, crowning a league champion at the end of the week. We will even create and print our own Pokémon cards. Campers must bring their own Pokémon cards.

Power Tumbling Rising 1st-5th 1pm-5pm Wings Gymnastics $245 For beginning and intermediate levels. Learn forward and backward tumbling, power hurdles, combos, mini-tramp skills, and more! Great class for focusing on cartwheels, round-offs, walk-overs and back handsprings. Daily art/craft & snack and an awards ceremony! Awesome 7:1 camper: coach ratio. Hip Hop Camp Rising 1st-8th 1pm-5pm Robert Ward $125 Mr. Robert, owner of “M Town Image,” the locally grown and nationally known dance crew, will work with campers to develop coordination skills and various dance moves with today’s hottest music. Spanish Fun & Games Rising 1st-4th 8am-12pm Cynthia Goodfellow $125 Learn more about Spanish culture through dance, language, games, and art. Jump! Shout! Cheer! Rising 1st-5th Girls Only 8am-12pm Christy Alberson $125 Learn cheers, dances and stunts in this fun-filled, action-packed week. Performance at the end of the week for friends and family. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Rising 3rd-5th 8am-12pm Jane Williams $125 Calling all Harry Potter fans, come explore Hogwarts this week. Get sorted into your house, make your own wands and create potions in this magical camp! Magic of Musical Theater Rising 3rd-6th 8am-12pm Leslie Reddick $125 Experience the magic and fun of musical theatre. Golf Camp Rising 6th-8th 8am-12pm Ashley Lamar $125 Learn the basics of a golf swing, as well as the rules and etiquette of the game from a former PGA Apprentice Professional. All experience levels of golfers welcome. Transportation will be provided to and from Overton Park so please arrive on time to ride with the group.

Week 4: June 24-28 3-D Sculpture & Drawing Camp Rising 3rd-6th 1pm-5pm Justice Stokes $125 Campers will learn to express themselves through sculpture and sketching and even have a show and tell to get used to talking about their work.

American Girl® Doll Camp Rising 1st-4th Girls Only 1pm-5pm Lily Thompson $125 Bring your favorite doll to this super fun camp. We will cook, make crafts, and do fun activities while learning about each doll’s background and history. Dinosaurs Alive! Jurassic Lego Adventures Rising 1st-4th 1pm-5pm Computer Explorers $225 RRRRRRRROOOOOAAAARRRR….join us on an unforgettable Jurassic Lego adventure! Our campers will dive into the world of paleontology through design, building, coding, programing, crafts, and more. Make a Rube Goldberg Machine! Rising 5th-8th 1pm-5pm Lyn Forsyth $125 Have you ever seen a Rube Goldberg machine? By definition, it is a machine that performs a very simple task in a very complicated and over-engineered manner. Come have fun with us this summer and build a Rube Goldberg machine.

Mixed Media Art Camp Rising 1st-4th 8am-12pm The Art Project $150 Join us as we explore a wide variety of art mediums and techniques. Campers will draw, paint, collage, learn watercolor techniques, paint on canvas, use clay and much more. Campers will receive their own sketchbook to work on all week and will bring home a portfolio of projects at the end of the week. Craft Challenge Rising 2nd-8th 8am-12pm Amie Plumley & Lily Thompson $125 Take the craft challenge! Over the course of the week, campers will be given materials and challenged to test their crafty skills by creating unique works of art. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Rising 3rd-6th Girls Only 8am-12pm Allyson Campbell $125 Come hang out with the girls this summer doing crafts, watching movies, swimming and more!

Keyboarding for Kids Rising 4th-8th 8am-12pm Jane Williams $125 Learn the "proper" way to type. Also, a great camp to prepare 4th graders to use Chrome Books.

Week 5: July 8-12 Wacky Tie-Dye Camp Rising 1st-4th 1pm-5pm Raniah White $125 Campers will learn different tie-dying techniques and be able to experiment with different colors and patterns.

Hip Hop Camp Rising 1st-8th 1pm-5pm Robert Ward $125 Mr. Robert, owner of “M Town Image,” the locally grown and nationally known dance crew, will work with campers to develop coordination skills and various dance moves with today’s hottest music.

Video Game Creation Rising 5th-8th 1pm-5pm Bits, Bytes & Bots $150 Don't just play games, learn how to create them! Campers will use game creation software to create and program their own PC-based video game. They will learn about sprites, objects, events and actions. Make scoring systems, multiple levels and even add sounds. Campers will take home their finished game on a CD at the end of camp.
