ACE: After School Care After School Care provides extended care for students in a nurturing, community-oriented setting. Emphasis is placed on the whole child with opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and academic development.

Full Time Care Recommended for families who need care an average of 3-5 days per week LL - 8th Grades $975/semester (monthly payment plan of $195 in five installments available) Half days included in cost

ACE: After School Care is offered on school days from school dismissal until close (6:00 p.m. on regular school days and 5:30 p.m. on half days). Families may register for fulltime care or utilize drop-in care.

Full-Time Care Policies: Advance registration and a minimum commitment of one semester is required to receive the fulltime rate. Unfortunately, we are unable to apply the full-time rate to only select months.

Drop-In Care Recommended for families who need care on an as-needed basis LL - 8th Grades $20 per day on regular school days $35 per day on half days

Drop-In Care Policies: No advance registration is required for drop-ins; however, it is strongly encouraged that families notify the Auxiliary Programs Office at ace@gslschool.org or 901-278-2685 ahead of time so we can expect the student. Drop-in charges are automatically applied to the credit card on file in UltraCamp at the end of the week. (Half-day preschool students may drop-in from noon until school dismissal for an additional fee of $25/day).

ACE @ Play

Packed with engaging programming, ACE @ Play provides students with a safe and fun environment on select days when students are off school.

ACE @ Play is available to all GSL students.

Fall Break Care October 6 - 8 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. $45 per day

ACE @ Play Policies Registration ACE @ Play is not included in the registration for After School Care. A separate, advance registration for ACE @ Play is required. There is a $15 late registration fee that begins one week prior to the session. No registrations are possible within three days prior to the start of an ACE @ Play session. No dropins are possible. Lunch & Snacks Students must bring two snacks and a lunch, as the cafeteria is not open during school breaks. No food can be microwaved or refrigerated, so the use of room-temperature items, ice packs, and/or thermoses is recommended.

HappyFeet Soccer HappyFeet uses nursery rhymes, songs, stories, and fun games with a soccer ball to maximize motor development. In one HappyFeet class, students get hundreds of touches on the ball, building their confidence in basic techniques while preparing them to be leaders on and off the field. Music Around the World “Travel around the world” and experience music from all across the globe! Each week, students will learn songs, dances, and rhymes from a different continent. From Danish dances to New Zealand folk songs, each young musician will experience a diverse range of cultures. Creative Movement Preschool children explore new movements and enhance motor skills using introductory dance concepts and rhythms. Classes are based on the celebrated BrainDance by Anne Greene Gilbert, a playful approach that uses nursery rhymes, free improvisation, and movements that align with children’s cognitive development. This class requires special attire. Girls should wear leggings, comfortable clothing, and pink ballet slippers. Boys should wear comfortable clothing and black ballet slippers. Theatre Adventures Join us as we explore the world of theatre through fun adventures, music, and movement. We will learn theatre skills and terms, build a love of reading, and increase our communication skills and self-expression! We will have a parent observation class (to be determined if in-person or via Zoom) at the end of the semester. Erin Lindberg has over 30 years of theatre experience, 16 years as a teacher, and has offered theatre at GSL for 6 years. Pottery and Painting: Deck the Tiles Get hands-on in this two-part special holiday pottery class hosted by Seize the Clay. On the first day, learn to work clay onto a tile. Your design will be professionally baked in a kiln and returned to you so that you can paint your design on the second day. Gymnastics Wings has developed an age- and level-appropriate, no-touch coaching curriculum. These classes do not require any special attire except comfortable clothing. Gymnastics Fun If your Luker loves to swing, jump, balance and flip, this is the perfect class! Learn beginning skills, fun stretches, and aerobic warm-ups that are age-appropriate for boys and girls.

Gymnastics Fundamentals Boys and girls will learn or build on beginning gymnastics skills. With a focus on form and execution, our SK gymnasts will develop flexibility, strength, coordination, and confidence as they jump, flip, swing, handstand, and cartwheel! Grades: SK - 1st Day of the Week: Wednesdays Dates: August 25 - November 17 Number of Classes: 12 Time: 2:45 - 3:30 p.m. Intermediate Gymnastics Whether this is your first class or you’ve been a gymnast for a while, boys and girls will build their gymnastics skills, learning drills to improve their form, strength, and flexibility. Karate GSL Karate is a martial arts course with influences from Taekwondo, Kung fu, and Karate. Patrick Register, better known as Mr. Dragon, is a 6th degree black belt who has been teaching at GSL for over 25 years. The emphasis is on self control, self confidence, and self defense. This class has been modified to include no kiai (spirit shouting) for safety reasons. All students must have a uniform to participate. Uniforms can be purchased for $45 on UltraCamp. Grades: PK - JK Day of the Week: Mondays Dates: August 30 - November 8 Number of Classes: 10 Time: 3:15 - 4:00 p.m. There will be a karate “show-off” on November 8 at 3:30 p.m. All parents are invited to attend.* Grades: SK - 4th Day of the Week: Tuesdays Dates: August 31 - November 2 Number of Classes: 10 Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Some students will belt test on November 2 at 4:00 p.m. All parents are invited to attend.* Even if your child is not belt testing, they will still show off what they have learned. *It will be determined at a later date if this will be an in-person or virtual event. Foundations of Ballet This class continues the BrainDance approach, introducing more complex movements and rhythms. Students are introduced to basic ballet positions and follow the structure of a ballet class. This class requires special attire. Girls should wear a pink leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers. Boys should wear a white t-shirt, black shorts, and black ballet slippers. Pigment and Paint Explore the art of painting by learning basic acrylic and watercolor techniques. Experiment with brush strokes, various textures, and color mixing. After practicing the basics of painting, students will create a final mixed media masterpiece on a stretched canvas. Growing Gardeners Give your child the opportunity to develop a green thumb! Students will learn about the elements necessary for growth and experience the life cycle of a plant by nurturing a plant from seed to sprout. Once the sprout gets strong enough, children will plant it into a pot so everyone can see the fruits of their hard work. Students will get their fingers dirty with this interactive class. Crazy 8's Math Club This club encourages students to play with math in the most outlandish way. Explore 3-D shapes in a glow-in-the-dark city, recreate complex designs in a super cube shuffle, and master math facts with a beach ball party. These highenergy activities appeal to kids of all math abilities. Gamers Club Unlocked Game On! Join us each week as we level up our gaming skills. Get hands-on with creating and coding video games, as well as exploring classic board and card games. Sewing Club It's "sew" much fun! Both boys and girls will enjoy learning new skills while making an original project. No needle experience is necessary. Cupcake Cuties Design and stitch your very own cupcake softie that almost looks good enough to eat! This 4-part project will be broken into manageable steps that will allow sewists to focus on creativity and learn new skills. LEGO Lab “MAD” Builders Edition Do you have “MAD” building skills? Gain access to our “Secret Brick Lab” of neverbefore-seen robotic builds, individual building challenges, team building challenges, and the wacky world of “MAD” (Mind-blowing Architects of Design) building. Each week will focus on a new theme such as Minecraft, pixels, scientific inventions, superheroes, and so much more! Chess Club Chess Club encourages problem-solving, fosters analytical skills, enhances critical thinking, and strengthens memory. Members are taught by active chess players who meet the high standards of Mid-South Chess where “chess is an art, a science, and a sport.” This class has been adapted to adhere to physical distancing. Bubble Bash Prepare for the ultimate bubble design challenge. Lower School Yoga In Yoga Club, we will practice poses, breathing and mindfulness. Middle School Yoga Yoga classes are a fun, full body way to learn valuable tools to take care of your physical and emotional health. STEM Flashlight: Intro to Electronics Soldering is at the core of every electronics project. In this class, students will learn how to solder a point-to-point LED flashlight and LED blinky light. Instructor Gino Barzizza will show you tips and tricks to get you started on your journey into DIY electronics. Classes include introduction to electrical theory, and hands-on building of a LED flash circuit using capacitors, resistors, integrated circuits (IC, switches, LEDs, and batteries). Finally, students will modify a toy to act as an enclosure for their circuit. Music Lessons Music instructors offer 30-minute lessons for 12 weeks. To register, please contact the instructor directly to ensure you are able to schedule a day and time that works for your child. ACE is proud to present a brand-new enrichment program that supports academic excellence with individualized help for all types of learners through tailored tutoring services, small-group study sessions, and select workshops designed to hone in on a specific skill or concept.

One-on-One Tutoring

Tutors are current or former GSL faculty/staff members with expertise in their teaching fields. Each tutoring session is 30 minutes or one hour in length. To register, please contact the tutor directly to ensure you are able to schedule a day, time, and frequency that works for your student or email ACE for a tutor recommendation. Remote tutoring may be available depending on the instructor's preference. Note that faculty/staff members may only tutor students who are not currently in their class.

Give your student a structured time and place to focus on homework assignments three days a week. Each learning lab is proctored by a GSL faculty member and consists of up to 6 students. Because of the small-group setting, students receive ample guidance from teachers who have expert knowledge of the curriculum.

ISEE Prep Course

Do you have an 8th grader applying for high school? This one week intensive course will prepare your student for the Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE), an admissions test for private and independent schools. Ms. Forsyth has been getting students ready for ISEE tests for more than 15 years and will coach students for what to expect on the day of the test, as well as provide tips to improve scores. Students will become familiar with the test format by taking practice exams, refining essay writing skills, and reviewing important academic concepts that are likely to appear.

Schedule Enrichment classes – in person or remote – will not meet on school half days or holidays. Unfortunately, ACE is unable to accommodate students taking remote enrichment classes while in After School Care. No credit or refund will be given for students who are registered for more than one program on a particular day or time. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure a student is not registered for overlapping classes.

The ACE office will not contact parents when a student is not in attendance, and no credit or refund will be given for a student who chooses not to attend an enrichment class. No prorated credits or refunds will be given for student absences from enrichment classes, even in the case of an absence due to a COVID-19 quarantine. Dismissal Students attending an enrichment class will attend After School Care for no additional charge prior to the start of their enrichment class. However, students must be picked up immediately after the end of the enrichment class at the next designated carpool time. Otherwise, a $20 drop-in fee will apply to attend After School Care after the class. (See the Dismissal section on page 33 to view the entire policy.)

Registration Advance registration for enrichment classes is required. Classes are filled on a firstcome, first-served basis until three days prior to the start of the class or when spots have been filled. No registrations are possible within 24 hours prior to the start of the class. Online Policies In addition to GSL's Technology Acceptable Use Policy*, the following policies apply: The educational tools and any remote learning services used during enrichment courses are chosen at the discretion of the camp instructor/vendor and may not coincide with the tools chosen by Grace-St. Luke’s. We ask that you cooperate with instructors/vendors in supplying your child with the software necessary to attend enrichment services, dependent on the course. Technical support will not be provided by Grace-St. Luke’s during remote enrichment classes. Responsibility for this falls to parents/guardians.

By enrolling or remaining in a remote enrichment class, parents/guardians agree to the supervision of their child during the time of the class. *Available in the 2021-22 Parent/Student Handbook

All policies and procedures in GSL’s parent/student handbooks apply to ACE. The following are additional policies specific to ACE.

Registration GSL uses UltraCamp to manage all ACE registrations and billing activity. An UltraCamp account with a valid credit card on file is required to register for all ACE programs. Before registering, new families should: 1. Create an UltraCamp account 2. Add a credit card

To register: 1. View upcoming sessions and select the offering your child is interested in attending 2. Proceed to checkout and pay the fee Program fees must be paid in full three days prior to the start of the program for a student to be enrolled. Registration closes three business days prior to the start of the program. Program dates, times, and locations can be found in UltraCamp or in the ACE brochure. ACE reserves the right to reschedule, modify, or cancel a program for reasons such as, but not exclusive to, insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or a pivot to remote learning. In the event of a cancellation by the school, a full credit will be issued to the student’s UltraCamp account. In the event of a cancellation by a family for After School Care or ACE @ Play, parents must email ace@gslschool.org five days prior to the start of the program in order to receive credit. If not cancelled before this time, no credit will be given. No prorated credits or refunds will be given for student absences from enrichment classes, regardless of advance notice.

Attendance Parents are asked to communicate with ACE regarding any change in your child’s attendance in ACE by calling the ACE office at 901-278-2685 or emailing ace@gslschool.org. If a student did not attend school on a given day, then he or she is not eligible to participate in ACE activities that afternoon. Unless the offering is fully virtual, there is no remote alternative to ACE offerings. No prorated credits or refunds will be given for student absences. Students must be supervised on campus at all times. Therefore, an on-campus student not checked into another program will be required to attend After School Care. If not registered for Full-Time After School Care, a drop-in fee with apply.

Dismissal ACE has staggered dismissal times. Families should pick up at either 4:30, 5:15, or 5:45 p.m. in the carpool line. On Wednesdays, families have an additional choice to pick up at 3:00 p.m. Should a parent need to pick up outside these hours due to an emergency, parents should call the ACE office at 901-278-2685. Otherwise, parents must make arrangements to pick up at one of the designated dismissal times.

At the Preschool, parents should pull up to the red awning in the Miss Lee’s lot. All occupants of the car are required to wear a mask. Please be prepared to buckle your child in once he or she is brought to you. In Lower School, parents should pull up to the circle driveway. In Middle School, parents should pull up to the awning next to the middle school building on Lemaster Street. An ACE staff member will check your identification, then bring your child to you. Please be prepared to wait in your vehicle for a few minutes, as your child will need time to gather his or her items. Remain in your vehicle unless your child needs assistance getting into the vehicle and buckling. Parents with children in multiple divisions will need to go through each carpool line separately, so please plan accordingly.

Students will only be released to an adult listed on the approved pick-up list. Parents may make arrangements for someone other than those listed to pick up a child by informing the ACE office in writing at ace@gslschool.org. Anyone picking up may be asked to show valid picture identification until the staff become familiar with them. Parents with students who walk home independently in After School Care should notify the ACE office in writing in advance and include the time in which the student should depart campus.

Communication

Program-wide information appears in the weekly eNews. Additionally, any changes to programs will be emailed to the parents of participants. To view photos and see reminders, add ACE on the app Class Dojo. This is a private, secure group shared only with GSL families. Invitations will be shared with those registered in ACE.

Unless parents notify the Director of Auxiliary Programs in writing, they consent to the use, publication, and copyright by GSL of any material created by their child and of any photographs, video, and/or audio recordings in which their child may appear in programs or activities of GSL. Parents allow the usage of these materials in any of GSL’s publications and promotional materials, via print, radio, television, outdoor, internet, and social media. The foregoing consent shall extend beyond a child’s registration in this program.

Lunch & Snacks Students have an opportunity to eat a snack in after school care. All students are required to bring a pre-packaged afternoon snack each day. Parents are encouraged to send snacks in easy to open containers that require minimal adult assistance. During ACE @ Play, students must bring two snacks and a lunch, as the cafeteria is not open during school breaks. No food can be microwaved or refrigerated, so the use of room-temperature items, ice packs, and/or thermoses is recommended.

Discipline It is expected that every student utilizing ACE adhere to the school's procedures and standards of behavior, which are located in the handbook on GSL’s website. ACE reserves the right to dismiss any student from the program whose behavior becomes unmanageable.

Electronics Because we strive to develop connections within our ACE community, personal electronics such as cell phones and tablets are not allowed. Students will be allowed to use the office phone to contact a parent if needed, and parents are encouraged to call the office at 901-278-2685 if you need to contact your child. ACE staff may give permission for school-owned tablets or laptops to be used during closely supervised homework times.

Illness Students who are experiencing symptoms of a communicable illness or disease will be separated from the group, and the parent will be contacted immediately and asked to make arrangements to pick up the student. Expedient action to pick up the student within the hour will be required for his or her own personal care. ACE will follow GSL’s protocols for any child who is experiencing symptoms.

Late Pick-Up A late pick-up fee of $5 per minute will be charged for any student whose parent is not waiting in the last carpool line promptly at closing time. Parents should inform the staff if they will be late by calling the office at 901-278-2685.
