simply wished to support the local troop, but it wasn't because of convincing words. We had never developed that skill. Through my Brownie and Junior years, I stayed loud, eager, and a little chaotic, never quite catching on to how words could shape a conversation.
For me, Girl Scouts is the most constructive experience of my life. It all started in second grade with Troop 1300. My troop frequented the local grocery store for cookie booths, one of the few times we interacted with the public as one unit. I remember standing in front of the booth with boxes stacked higher than myself because I insisted on doing it "my way". Our first buyers were usually people who caved to 'puppy eyes' or
It wasn't until my Cadette and middle school years when a noticeable shift began to happen. Before cookie season started, my troop leader dedicated one meeting to help us rethink how we approached people, not with scripts but with a more developed method. She had us practice pacing ourselves, starting with just one clear sentence, and carrying confidence into each interaction. We took turns pitching random objects around the room until our words, posture, tone, and even the way we held the cookies conveyed assurance. These were small adjustments, but it changed the way I carried myself.
Then, we put it on the test. The difference was immediate: people paused, listened, and engaged with what we had to offer. One customer even remarked that I was quite the salesperson, and it was that moment, I felt genuine pride, I felt that the experience was a mission rather than a chore. The guidance that my troop leader gave that day gradually transformed the way I communicated and organized my thoughts. Create Your Legacy with a Planned Gift The first planned gift in the Girl Scout Movement came from our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. After converting the carriage house of her home into the first Girl Scout national headquarters, she gifted the property to Girl Scouts in her will. Free Family Fun event brings 400+ attendees together at Origin Park in Clarksville, IN More than 400 attendees joined Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana at Origin Park for a FREE day of family fun! Families enjoyed hands-on activities, games, climbing, a silent disco, giveaways and more, alongside a fantastic group of community partners. Together, we celebrated the importance of connection, confidence, and mental wellness for girls and families. We were also honored to be recognized by the American Water Charitable Foundation and Indiana American Water as a STEM Education Grant recipient. This generous gift will support hands-on STEM experiences for Girl Scouts in Southern Indiana, including opportunities to explore scientific research, environmental conservation and pollinator habitat restoration.
