Q&A with Our Girl Scout Sister, Terri Sanders Why is it important to you to serve GSK as an adult? Seeing the impact of Gold Award Girl Scouts is inspiring, and I’m grateful for all the lifelong friends I’ve made over the years and continue to have adventures with.

Get to know Terri Sanders as she shares her favorite Girl Scout memories, travels, and experiences that have shaped her journey. What is your Girl Scout story? I joined Girl Scouts as a Junior in 1969 and have not missed a year since, becoming a lifetime member in 1985 and going on to lead three troops from Daisy through Ambassador while serving in nearly every volunteer role at the troop, service unit, area, and council levels.
What is a cherished memory that you hold with your Girl Scout Experiences? So many memories, it’s hard to choose! I chaperoned Senior Girl Scouts to the British Virgin Islands, sailing on a historic ship for two weeks while the girls scuba dived.

I’ve attended overnight camp every year, learning water ballet, canoeing, sailing, rappelling, and so much more. I’ve joined thousands of Girl Scouts at National Council Sessions across the country. I’ve traveled through Italy and Switzerland by train, visited Our Chalet, and bridged Girl Scouts to adults at Engstligenfalle. I’ve also been to Our Cabaña and Pax Lodge. One spring break, I circled the U.S. on Amtrak, seeing Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, and the Grand Canyon, with girls hopping off at every small town depot to do cartwheels and say they were there. Supporting GSK with financial gifts is vital the mission but on a personal level, why is it important to you? I believe Girl Scouts give girls opportunities to explore, learn, and grow as they become leaders in their own way. I believe that is how I've benefited through my participation, and I want that opportunity to continue.

A New Tax Benefit Makes Giving Even More Meaningful
Starting in 2026, a new federal tax rule allows people who take the standard deduction to also deduct charitable donations. Individuals can deduct up to $1,000 in cash donations and married couples filing jointly can deduct up to $2,000, even if they don’t itemize their taxes. This “above-the-line” deduction is designed to make giving more accessible for everyday donors. This means more people can support causes they care about—like Girl Scouts—while also receiving a tax benefit for their generosity. We are so grateful for your support and everything you do to help girls grow, learn, and thrive.
