2026 Summer Camp Program Guide

Page 1

Dear GSCP2P Family,

It’s been over a year since Hurricane Helene and we cannot believe we are still dealing with the aftermath and damage from the hurricane.

Because of continued challenges around property infrastructure and the uncertainty around timelines for repairs and reopening, we have made the decision to once again host all six weeks of our summer camp programming at Keyauwee Program Center for summer 2026.

As always, our first priority is to ensure that we are providing a safe program for our Girl Scouts that we know we can deliver on.

We know that many of our Girl Scouts need camp now more than ever and travel to Keyauwee may be challenging, so GSCP2P will continue to offer transportation assistance from the Asheville and Hickory Service Centers certain weeks this summer to make sure every member has access to our summer camp programs this year.

We are looking forward to another amazing summer at camp – we hope to see you there!

-The GSCP2P Outdoor Experience and Property Team

Get ready for an adventure at summer camp!

Keyauwee Program Center is an ACA accredited facility in rural Randolph County, NC, that has been serving Girl Scouts since 1945. Our facilities include a modern, airconditioned dining hall, junior Olympic swimming pool, climbing wall, low and high ropes courses, archery range, a lake for boating and so much more!

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

Your summer camp price is “all-inclusive!” The price of camp includes all meals and accommodations, patch, T-shirt and parent access to an online photo service.

Summer camp registration opens on January 20! Register by scanning the QR code or by visiting bit.ly/3R5CbYu.

Let’s all go outside!

Camp is for all girls and Girl Scouts, and we have programming for every age level. If you are not a current Girl Scout member, you can still attend camp! Enjoy an adventure-filled summer and gain an annual Girl Scout membership, which will give you access to local opportunities, council programs and more Girl Scout fun!

Girl Scouts do more than just have fun! Our programming is designed to help girls grow and benefit through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The five outcomes in our program model can be applied to the outdoors and beyond!

Strong Sense of Self

At camp, Girl Scouts are encouraged to try new activities and practice their skills. Campers have the freedom to choose extra activity rotations to add to their daily schedule.

Healthy Relationships

In a group living setting like camp, conflict can happen. When it does, our trained counselors discuss any disagreements with campers and help them solve their conflict constructively.

Challenge Seeking

At camp, our staff instructors are trained to supervise their specialty area and engage campers in healthy risk taking. Girl Scouts can try “challenge by choice” in an encouraging, uplifting environment.

Positive Values

At camp, we recite the Girl Scout Promise and Law each morning at a flag ceremony and ask campers to consider the Law during conflicts. Campers learn to share responsibility in keeping their living area clean and assisting in cleaning areas shared by all campers during daily “kapers.”

Community Problem Solving

As part of our group living environment at camp, campers create their own rules for their groups with the guidance of our counselors.

What To Expect

Meals: All meals and snacks are provided at camp. Meals are communal, familystyle experiences supervised by staff. We strive to make all meals tasty, balanced and camper-friendly. We employ a kitchen team of trained chefs and helpers who prepare most food from scratch. Accommodations are made for dietary restrictions (vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free, etc.). We do not encourage “try it bites” or the “clean plate club,” but rather allow campers to eat what and how much they like. Alternatives like Sunbutter and jelly sandwiches, cereal and salad bar are always available in addition to the primary meal. We are a nut, shellfish and sesame aware facility and are happy to accommodate most food allergies. We are pleased to welcome Wolfoods as our new camp food service provider for this summer. You can learn more about Wolfoods at bit.ly/3ZaVjaB.

Lodging: Depending on the session and age level of your camper, sleeping arrangements vary, but always include a comfortable bed and protection from the elements. Camper accommodation consists of lodge-style housing with bunk beds for Brownies, small cabins for Juniors and fully screened platform tents with metal roofs for Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. All beds have mattresses that fit twin size sheets and campers are housed in groups of 4–20 campers, with staff members either sleeping in a connected room or in separate accommodations nearby. Wherever they lay their head, Girl Scout camp staff will be there to ensure your camper has everything they need to get a good night’s rest. Bathrooms and showers are located either in the same building or in a central shower house just a short walk away from your camper’s accommodations. All bathing facilities are equipped with sinks, flush toilets and hot showers and have individual stalls to respect and protect campers’ privacy.

Who We Serve at Camp: Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont values the religious, racial and gender diversity our members bring to camp and strives to provide all campers with positive outdoor experiences that serve their unique needs. Our summer camp programs welcome all girls and Girl Scouts, including cisgender girls, transgender girls and non-binary or gender non-conforming youth. We train our staff to ensure that every camper feels like they belong at camp!

Health and Safety: Keeping campers safe is our number one priority at camp. All three of our camp properties are accredited by the American Camp Association, a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and the delivery of quality programming. In addition to meeting the established standards for health, safety, program and personnel criteria set by federal, state and local governments, our camps meet the standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA. Our staff also go through rigorous pre-camp training to ensure they are equipped to handle the physical, mental and emotional needs of campers. All staff are trained in First Aid/CPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, emergency procedures, homesickness, conflict resolution and more.

Technology at Camp: Summer camp is an opportunity for campers to be unplugged from normal, everyday devices and experience the magic of nature without the influence of technology. Campers are not allowed to have cell phones or other electronic devices on camp property.

Parent Photograph Portal: We know how much fun your camper has with us and understand you’re excited for us to share photos of your camper’s experience with you. While we do our best to take photos, our top priority is making sure your camper is having the best camp experience possible. Photos will be posted to our password-secured parent portal. Camp staff will not interrupt our campers’ experience to take photos, nor will we force campers to be in photos if they don’t want to be photographed. Some photos may be occasionally featured on our social media and marketing materials. Campers will receive a photo opt-out bracelet if they do not want to be publicly featured.

Explore More Camp

Explore More Camp encourages campers to engage in a variety of activities during their week at camp and “explore more” than what they normally would do. This allows them to try something new or further develop their skills in a favorite pastime. Each week is full of favorite traditional camp activities, like swimming, archery, boating and campfires PLUS an opportunity to choose from a variety of new sessions that may include visiting the barn, participating in sports and games, learning new crafting skills, hanging out in a hammock, activities related to the week’s theme and so much more!

CERTIFICATIONS/TRAININGS

Before a troop can stay overnight on camp property in a self-contained facility (lodge style, everyone in the same building), someone in the troop must complete the Overnight and Activity License found online in gsLearn. You will not be able to build fires, make s’mores or cook over a campfire with the Overnight & Activity License.

In order to build a fire and cook marshmallows or a meal, pitch and sleep in tents OR to camp at a non-council facility at an established campsite with access to running water, bath house facility and a designated fire ring, a Basic Camping Skills License is required. Earn it by first obtaining an Overnight and Activity License and then attending the Basic Camping Skills course.

Troops planning to camp in a nonestablished or primitive camp site (a site without access to running water, no bathhouse facility and/or does not have and established fire ring) need a Primitive Camping License. You must obtain the Overnight and Activity License and Basic Camping Skills License before taking the Primitive Camping License course.

Register for a training on our online calendar. For questions, e-mail info@girlscoutsp2p.org.
