INDEX AND UNIONS AGREE ON BEST PRACTICES IN CONTRACT LEGITIMIZATION PROCESSES Two years after the implementation of the labor reform began, Index signed a list of 10 commitments with six labor unions -those with the largest representation- to comply with the processes they are obliged to follow in this matter.
and presented on Monday, June 31, within the framework of the virtual conferences on labor matters organized by Index. The union leaders agreed to move forward with better practices in contract legitimization and changes in union leadership.
Some of the commitments are: respect for freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to effective negotiation; the promotion of labor justice in the workplaces of Index’s affiliates; the eradication of all forms of forced or compulsory labor; and the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation.
“The axes of the reform to the Federal Labor Law and part of the content of Chapter 23 of the T-MEC were considered; these aspects help considerably in preventing employers from interfering in the exercise of the will of the workers, and they are the ones who elect their union representation, or the union leadership to support their collective contract,” said Isaias Gonzalez Cuevas, General Secretary of the CROC.
Among the organizations that participated were the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants (CROC); the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM); and the Revolutionary Workers Confederation (COR). INTEL SAYS CHIP SUPPLY SHORTAGE COULD LAST SEVERAL YEARS On Monday, Intel Corp’s chief executive said it could be several years before a global shortage of semiconductors is resolved, shutting down some auto production lines and being felt in other sectors such as consumer electronics. Pat Gelsinger told a virtual session at the Computex show in Taipei that the trend toward working and studying from home during the COVID-19 pandemic had led to an “explosive semiconductor growth cycle” that has put enormous pressure on global supply chains. Gelsinger had told The Washington Post in a mid-April interview that the shortage was going to take “a couple of years” to abate and that he planned to start producing chips within six to nine months to address shortages at U.S. fabs. Intel announced in March a $20 billion plan to expand its advanced chip manufacturing capacity by building two factories in Arizona and opening its plants to outside customers.

RECOMMENDATIONS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SETTINGS FOR FULLY VACCINATED PEOPLE The risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection is minimal for fully vaccinated people. The risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission from fully vaccinated people to unvaccinated people is also reduced. Therefore, fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing masks or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. Fully vaccinated people should also continue to wear a well-fitted mask in correctional facilities and homeless shelters. Prevention measures are still recommended for unvaccinated people. Travel Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread SARS-CoV-2 and now travel at low risk to themselves. International travelers need to pay close attention to the situation at their international destinations before traveling due to the spread of new variants and because the burden of COVID-19 varies globally. Prevention measures continue to apply to all travelers, including those who are vaccinated. All travelers must wear a mask on all planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of Mexico and in transportation hubs such as airports and stations.

LABOR
RECOMMENDATIONS COMPANIES DURING ELECTIONS
Organizations must encourage the attendance of their employees in the voting on June 6th by ensuring that workers whose workday coincides with election day have enough time to vote. In fact, section nine of article 132 of the Federal Labor Law obliges employers to grant the necessary time for the exercise of the vote in the popular elections. The labor legislation also establishes that the mandatory days off as determined by the federal and local electoral laws for the election day; therefore, next Sunday, June 6, even though it coincides with the weekly break of most of the workers, for those who are required to work that day, the company must grant them or pay them, if they work it, as a working holiday, which does not exempt them from the obligation to give them the time to go to vote. The obligation of the employers also includes allowing the workers to comply with the electoral services when such activities must be performed within their working hours. For all those who will perform a poll worker role, granting them only Sunday as a mandatory day of rest may be insufficient, especially for the president and the secretary of the polling place.
