MEXICO - U.S. SECURITY COOPERATION • Mexico and the United States moved to reinforce bilateral cooperation this week following a phone call between Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The conversation focused on security, migration, and the ongoing USMCA review, while both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination on shared priorities. • Velasco pointed to progress in combating fentanyl trafficking, noting a significant decline in seizures at the border since the beginning of the Sheinbaum administration, while Rubio stressed joint efforts against transnational criminal organizations. • The discussions will continue during a meeting between their security teams in Mexico City, today, Friday 12th, with U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson participating. The agenda includes border security, organized crime, illicit financial flows, and migration. USMCA REVIEW • President Donald Trump cast uncertainty over the future of the USMCA this week, stating that he is not sure whether his administration will renew the agreement during the ongoing review process. • Trump questioned the strategic importance of the agreement for the United States, comments that raised concerns about the future of North American economic integration. • Nonetheless, in response, Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard mentioned during the Morning Conference that a Mexican delegation will travel to Washington from June 15–18 for the second round of discussions with U.S. officials. • Ebrard emphasized that negotiations are proceeding “in time and form” and noted that establishing a formal review mechanism was one of Mexico’s primary objectives. • The secretary also clarified that July 1 marks the formal start of the review process rather than a deadline for its completion. While acknowledging ongoing trade tensions, Ebrard argued that Mexico remains in a favorable competitive position compared to other countries seeking access to the U.S. market, suggesting that both governments remain committed to keeping negotiations on track despite political uncertainty. The Mexico City metropolitan industrial market began 2026 with exceptionally strong performance, recording nearly 620,000 square meters of gross absorption in the first quarter—double the level registered a year earlier. The surge was driven primarily by logistics and e-commerce operators seeking proximity to the country’s largest consumer market, reinforcing the region’s growing importance within Mexico’s industrial real estate landscape. The Zumpango-AIFA corridor accounted for the majority of leasing activity,

benefiting from available land, logistics connectivity, and access to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport. Notably, pre-leasing represented more than 60% of transactions, signaling strong confidence in future demand and continued expansion plans among occupiers. Unlike northern border markets, which have experienced rising vacancy rates amid trade and infrastructure uncertainties, the Mexico City region is increasingly attracting investment linked to distribution, fulfillment, and last-mile operations.
