History of The station was built in 1847 in the Neo Tudor style to the designs of William Tite. At the time it was not the only train station in Carlisle.
During the 1870s the Station was extended and reopened in July 1880. The Undercroft was built during this time.
In the early 1860s the Citadel station became the main station with all train traffic diverted to go through it.
the Station Over time the building was affirmed as a grade II* listed building and protected as a part of Carlisle’s history.
Census records show that the Station was used for residential purposes over the course of the late 1800s and early 1900s

Past
There is always a thing of mystery about old buildings, specifically those flickering lights and doors that open by themselves... The Train station, like most old buildings, is host to some of it’s very own Ghosts and Ghouls. There are reports from over the years of a headless man who haunts platform 8 (Left), of a veiled woman who roams the upper floor corridoors at night and there have been people who’ve seen a pointing man in the shadows of the Undercroft. Most recently a staff member was in an upstairs office and heard buzzing noises a moment before feeling the light caress of an icy touch on her neck, needless to say she hightailed it out of there. The space around her desk was cold to the touch for about half hour after.
