Semester 2 Overview

Type of brief:

Integral elements:

Personality:

What type of project do you feel you best respond to – is it a “tight brief” with very clear guidelines and demands or an “open” brief where the outcomes are far more open and unspecified?

Are there integral elements that often form key ele- ments within your work – in other words how do you best generate and create your own designs/imagery? What have you identified and how do you wish to develop this?

What are you interested in, what are you about? Do you feel you have been able to introduce your personality and interests in your work. In what creative direction do you want to proceed?

I enjoy the challenge of both briefs “tight brief” and “open” brief. Both of the briefs have different problems to solve which means I prefer them equally.

My work is mainly based on colour and patterns. I try not to limit my self to specific techniques. I always try to find appropriate style to each project in order to experiment with it. In near future I would like to combine typography and photographs.

I’m very eclectic person because I’m inspired by variety of mediums. I see possibilities in most thing around me. I feel my work reflects this because each design is different from the last and yet still holds my personal style in my work.

Success:

Problems:

What are your strengths? Where have you been most success - ful? What do you think was the reason for that positive experience?

Where have the problems arisen; have you been able to over- come them?

My strengths are determination, colour, pattern, alternative format and being able to meet deadline. The reason for all those thing is my passion for graphic design and aim to be successful in this field.

My problem is that I don’t experiment enough with typography. I haven’t been able to over - come this problem yet. I need to focus on this issue more and keep in my mind that I should experiment with it more in order to improve my typography skills.

Martin Gill 4 Crosby St, Carlisle Cumbria CA2 5SR Thursday 26th January 2010 Dear Sir, A piece of stationery is a working document and must be designed with the users (both the sender and receiver of the letter) in mind. Your design should not take up so much of the space that there is very little left for typing. You must also not impare legibility for the reader. The typed letter never goes right to the bottom of the page. You must leave enough room for the sender’s signature and job title to be included without looking squashed. Ideally, the signature should fall in the bottom third of the letter. Check your design by trying out a test letter in the proper format and seeing how it looks. The exact dimensions of margins for typing vary according to your design and can be negotiated with your client.
