Work Starts Above Ground
The Eiffel Tower is often refered to as a giant meccano set.
July 1st 1887 work started above ground.
The Tower was first built using bolts which were the replaced with rivets, each rivet took four people to insert into the structure, there was a total of 2.5 million rivets.
The First Floor
June 1888 The first floor is finished.
The First floor was constructed using wooden scaffolds and pulleys, in total they used 16 wooden scaffolds 12 at 30m in height and 4 at 45 meters in height.
Above The First Floor
June 1888 work starts above the first floor.
The structure was constructed in a way so that it would only move 6-7cm in the wind.
Each part of the Eiffel Tower was constructed out of iron in a factory in the outskirts of Paris.

It takes around 50 - 60 tonnes of paint to cover the whole tower, they paint it approximatly every 7 years, at one point the eiffel tower was painted yellow.
