Dear members of the Terrace Family, friends and guests,

For the final time this Football season, I extend a very warm welcome today to everyone at Tennyson, the green heart of St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace. A special greeting to Dr Alan Campbell and our friends from Anglican Church Grammar School as we look forward to another day of great competition in the GPS spirit of sportsmanship. I trust that you will enjoy a day of warm hospitality and strong competition. It has been a wonderful season thus far, with a great deal of scoreboard success, particularly for the 1st XI last week. Each week has been typified by lots of happy young men playing the game that they love. We look forward to more of the same today.

While there are a further two rounds in the coming weeks, today is significant because it is our final home round for 2026, and will be the last on this friendly turf for our Senior Football students. As we close out another home season, it is an appropriate time to pass on the thanks of the College to all who have contributed so much to ensure the success of Terrace Football. The program houses our biggest sport, and provides more teams than any other GPS school. This rate of participation tells us that plenty is going right in Terrace Football. I thank our Parent Support Group, led by the fabulous Mrs Monica and Mr Anthony Katsanevas, for the selfless way you have gone about supporting the young men in the program. Your efforts ensure that the Gentlemen of Terrace can simply turn up and enjoy themselves. Our Director of Football, Mr Mitch Edwards, is deserving of our congratulations and thanks for his work that has seen the program grow significantly in strength and participation, to the point where getting every team a match each week poses a headache. Most importantly, Mitch goes about his work in a humble manner that honours the values and traditions of our College.

Our coaches – whether teachers, non-teaching staff, Old Boys, parents or friends of the College – all go about their roles with the goal of improving their team members as players and people in a spirit of competitive fun. We simply cannot run such a program without the willingness of so many adults to coach and mentor the young men in the Red and Black.

Tennyson Playing Fields has looked fabulous this season, despite some challenging weather, and the players have been extremely fortunate to enjoy the facilities that many clubs would look upon with great envy. I wish to pass on our thanks to the Maintenance team, led by Mr Nick Jeffrey, for their efforts in keeping our home fields in such great order. Many students will never again enjoy facilities of this calibre once their school years are over.

A huge thank you to our parents and caregivers, who sacrifice a great deal for the benefit of their sons. Our students are incredibly fortunate to enjoy a Terrace education and all it provides, including the opportunity to take part in our Football program. I hope all parents receive some words of sincere thanks from their sons for the opportunities they enjoy.

Finally, thank you to our young men who have proudly worn the Red and Black and represented the College with distinction.

Congratulations and well done throughout the home season of 2026 and best wishes today and for the following two weeks.

WELCOME TO TENNYSON

PARKING

Two carparks will be available at Tennyson, Carpark A and Carpark B, located on either side of O’Leary Memorial Drive. Parking attendants will be present from 7.30am to facilitate parking and direct players, coaching staﬀ and families. Please be respectful of our valued neighbours when entering and exiting the property.

BUSES

Buses are to be parked in the carpark bay for buses at the end of O’Leary Memorial Drive. Boys are to load on and oﬀ the buses here.

INFORMATION BOARD

A map of the ﬁeld and game allocations are posted on the wall at the BBQ area.

VISITORS’ CHANGE ROOMS

Visitors change rooms will located under the Rodgers Pavilion.

REFEREES’ CHANGE ROOM

The referee change room is located under the Rodgers Pavilion.

CATERING AND REFRESHMENTS

A wide selection of hot and cold foods will be available from the Canteen and BBQ area throughout the day. Spectators are asked to follow the direction of signage and Tennyson staﬀ when patronising the food area.

BOARDER VOUCHERS

Boarder vouchers will be oﬀered during Season 2026.

COACHES' AND OFFICIALS’ LUNCH

Coaches’ and oﬃcials’ lunches will be served during Season 2026 in the Rogers Pavilion from 11.00am.

Acknowledgement of Country

MEDICAL ATTENTION

Medical attention will be available throughout the day from the First Aid Room located between Carmichael Field and Internationals Oval (map ref. 14). A Physiotherapist will attend the First Aid Room all day. There will also be a mobile first aid area manned by a first aid officer between fields.

TOILET FACILITIES

Public facilities are available on the ground level behind the Old Boys’ Grandstand and the Rodgers Pavilion.

VISITOR SEATING – MAIN OVAL

On the Main Oval, spectators are to be seated on the eastern grandstand (opposite the Old Boys' Grandstand) or the grass and at the northern end of the Old Boys’ Grandstand.

COACHES

Coaches are asked to avoid “walking the sideline” and to keep reserves behind the roped area.

POST MATCH FUNCTIONS

There will be an afternoon tea following the 1st XI games for staﬀ, coaches, parents, and 1st XI players in the Rodgers Pavilion. 1st XI players may wear playing kit accompanied by their school blazer, with boots to be replaced with non-studded shoes.

GAME DAY PROGRAMS

Programs will be available near the main entrance or via digital link.

COLLEGE POLICY

NO alcohol is to be consumed at this event. NO smoking - Gregory Terrace is a nonsmoking campus. NO pets are to be brought onto the grounds.

Dear members of the Terrace Family,

It is hard to believe that we have arrived at Round 7 – our final home round for the 2026 season. Today, we warmly welcome our good friends from Anglican Church Grammar School for what promises to be a fantastic day of Football and community at Tennyson. I wish all teams the very best and hope it is an enjoyable and memorable day for all involved.

This season has certainly presented its challenges, particularly with ongoing wet weather. In light of this, I would like to sincerely thank our Maintenance staff, whose dedication and tireless work have ensured our boys have had every opportunity to play, compete, and create lasting memories. Their efforts behind the scenes never go unnoticed.

We are also incredibly fortunate to have the unwavering support of our Football Support Group. Their commitment to putting community first is evident in everything they do. Without their generosity of time and effort, it would be impossible to cater for the large number of boys who take part in our program each week. They are a vital part of what makes Terrace Football so special.

To our parents, players, and coaches – thank you. From the 5Is through to the 1st XI, you have been exceptional. You are the heartbeat of our Term 2 season, and regardless of results, you represent Terrace with pride, commitment, and sportsmanship. I am incredibly proud to be part of such a strong and supportive Football community. Finally, to our Year 12 students – enjoy your final day at Tennyson. This place holds countless memories: moments of joy, challenge, and camaraderie shared with your teammates and friends. These experiences will stay with you long after your time at Terrace. Please know that you will always be welcomed back as part of this community. Thank you for everything you have contributed.

Welcome to the final home round of Terrace Football for the 2026 GPS season!

On behalf of the Football Support Group, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all players, parents, coaches and supporters from Terrace, and to our guests from Anglican Church Grammar School. It is always special to gather at Tennyson, and there is no better setting for the final home game of the season.

To our Terrace players and coaches, thank you for your commitment, discipline and team spirit throughout the year. You have represented the College with pride at every game and your effort, conduct and sportsmanship have been a credit to Terrace Football. As we reach this final home round, we look forward to seeing you finish strongly – playing for one other and embracing everything that makes Terrace Football so special.

To our wonderful community of parents and supporters – thank you. Your energy on the sidelines and willingness to get involved behind the scenes continues to make a real difference. This season has been another fantastic example of what we can achieve together. From the Donut Drive and Season Launch to the Mother’s Day Flower and Plant Stall, the Football Mothers’ and Caregivers’ Dinner, the End of Season Raffle and today’s Bake Sale, your support has helped bring our community together and strengthen the program for all our boys.

A special mention to all of our Football parents who gave up their early mornings throughout Terms 1 and 2 to prepare toasted sandwiches for the boys after training. The importance of a warm breakfast – especially on those colder mornings – cannot be overstated, and your efforts are very much appreciated. Welcome back to the last dance at Tennyson, the home of Terrace Football. Round 7 of the 2026 GPS Football season has arrived, and today marks an incredibly special, deeply emotional milestone against Anglican Church Grammar School. Today, Terrace plays host for what will be our final home game of the season, and crucially, the very last time our Seniors will ever lace up their boots and play Football on these fields. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all players, coaches, staff, and travelling supporters and we anticipate an unforgettable day of Football.

We head into today’s fixture carrying massive momentum. Following another hardfought victory last weekend, our 1st XI remains undefeated, sitting proudly on 11 points for the season with three wins and two draws. The dream of GPS premiership glory is well and truly within arm’s reach, but we know the job is not yet finished. Under the expert guidance of Head Coach Mr Tom Laxton, Assistant Coach Mr Ben Cooper and all other coaches involved, the boys possess a relentless desire to protect our home turf one last time.

Today is going to be an emotional rollercoaster for the Red and Black. For many Year 12 students, this game represents the culmination of a six-to-eight-year journey representing this great College. Terrace Football has done so much more than just teach us how to play; it has helped every single one of us grow into the people we are today.

On a personal note, this program and this brotherhood mean everything to me – especially after I suffered my ACL injury. It was the Terrace spirit that my teammates, the coaches, and this community have shown that inspired me to keep going. When I wanted to drop my head, you lifted me up. That is what Terrace does: it ensures no brother walks alone.

From our youngest juniors to the 5th XI and our 1st XI, every single player wearing the jersey today is playing for the badge, for each other and for the memories we have built over nearly a decade.

Finally, an immense vote of thanks goes out to the incredible Terrace staff, coaches, groundsmen, and families who make this program possible. A special mention to Mr Mitch Edwards, the Director of Football, whose tireless work over the years has shaped this incredible culture.

Let’s leave absolutely everything out on the pitch today. For the final time at Tennyson, and ultimately, leave a legacy.

Welcome to Tennyson, and welcome to the final home round of Terrace Football for 2026. To all students, parents, teachers or visitors, Terrace extends a warm welcome – it is a privilege to host you today.

Game day at Tennyson this year has had a real buzz. The support from students and families at our 1st XI games has been brilliant to see, and it injects so much energy into the players. To all of those who have showed up, you have made a real difference.

It has been easy to see why people have been turning up. The 1st XI head into today’s game undefeated for the season. To get this far into the season without dropping a game is a remarkable achievement, and the GPS premiership appears to be very much within reach.

Looking at the rest of the Football program, it has been awesome to see such a high level of participation and strong sense of camaraderie across all year levels. Just last week, after a huge win, the 6B side made their way to the 1st XI game to show their support and meet the players. Moments like these are what Terrace Football is all about.

To the Seniors, today marks our final Football round at Tennyson. What you have built for the College, and Terrace Football goes far beyond wins and losses. You will be remembered for the friendships you have made, and the culture and legacy you have fostered through Terrace Football. I wish you all the best in your final home games, and for the rest of the season.

National Reconciliation Week

From 27 May to 3 June, we pause to recognise and commemorate National Reconciliation Week – a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

At Terrace, we recognise that our College story is interwoven into a much larger one characterised by the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples, whose Dreamings continue to echo through Country. Our 151-year legacy is part of this ongoing narrative: a journey of learning, faith, and growth that must now look courageously to the future.

In 2026, the National Reconciliation Week theme is All In, which calls us as the Terrace Family to commit to wholeheartedly.

As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, our approach to reconciliation is further sharpened by the Touchstones:

• Gospel Spirituality calls us to the courage of truth-telling;

• Liberating Education helps us unlock minds shackled by prejudice;

• Inclusive Community reminds us that every story belongs;

• Justice and Solidarity binds us not to speak for, but to stand with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Reconciliation is not confined to one week; it is an ongoing responsibility that shapes all we do at Terrace. As the final weeks of the 2026 Terrace Football season draw near, now is the perfect time to say thank you. On behalf of the College, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to all who make our Football program so successful.

Football was first introduced into the GPS competition in 1991, and over the last three decades, its popularity at Terrace has grown exponentially. Today, the Term 2 program boasts the largest number of participants across all sports at the College. This achievement is underpinned by Terrace Sport’s wider commitment to providing opportunities for all students, no matter their experience, age or ability.

Throughout the 2026 season, the Terrace Football program has kicked some incredible goals – both literally and figuratively – with 821 athletes lacing up their boots to represent the Red and Black. From home round battles to awaygame challenges, we have seen some epic victories, a few difficult defeats, and many tightly contested competitions. No matter the final score, all matches have been played in the spirit of sportsmanship, promoting a ‘team before self’ mentality.

Behind the scenes of the Terrace Football program is a dedicated group of coaches, staff, families and volunteers who make every effort to provide our boys with amazing opportunities to grow and develop, as players and as young men. From the canteen to the sidelines, the Terrace Football community remains as passionate and supportive as ever.
