From June, 1888, to June, 1905, Mrs. Morrison was the head of the home department of the Normal School, Farmville, Virginia. During this time, she was a pillar of strength and encouragement, of aggressive hope and confidence that all would be well. She never failed to look upward and onward, and her chief aim was to create for the students the atmosphere of a true home. Her strong personality, combining rare mental, social, and spiritual qualities, touched a responsive and quickening chord in the hearts of the students, the faculty, the members of the home department, and the citizens of the community.

and sparkling music, Meg Herndor, forward and in a manner highly professional introduced Man Shelton, who, in turn, introduced the senior freaks to a fascinated and horrified crowd.

Amidst

laughter, spangles, glitter,

the masterful ringmaster, stepped -

Frankie McDaniel and Belle Lovelace, the skilled trainers of animals the jungle, presented the wild animals from the junior class. Among those of especial interest were Andreona, the giraffe, a highly intelligent animal, and Clementine, the elephant wonder direct from Africa.

from

Next came forth a crowd of rollicking Wild West cowboys and cowgirls whom the mellow harvest moon cast an alluring light as they danced gleefully around a dying campfire. So perfect was their Wild West stunt that they were awarded the first prize. upon

Soon twenty freshmen tumblers, clad in green shorts and white shirts, dashed forth so gayly and performed with such grace their death-defying feats that thev won the second prize. Following in the wake of the ring show and the grand parade was still more mirth, color, and flash. Rut suddenly the crowd grew breathless with wonder as to who the circus queen would be. Within a few seconds, "Chub" Denit, enthroned upon a snow-white chariot and clad in billowing pink tulle, was ushered in amidst the gayest applause and presented as the Queen of For the remainder of the evening, "Chub" reigned supreme as the Circus. the crowd grew merrier and merrier with dancing, sideshows, fortune-telling, etc.

Promptly on the stroke of twelve ended the most mirthful of circuses
