Brian Disney 2025 GBA President
Hope everyone has had a great summer and is looking forward to a busy and productive fall. Our Association has a plethora of upcoming activities and events over the next four months in which we encourage you to find a place to connect and get involved.
September is Associate Member Appreciation month…we look forward to celebrating the tremendous value and respect we have for our Associate members…our suppliers, trade contractors and service providers…not just this month but throughout the year. We could not do our jobs without each of you.
First Wednesdays continue to grow…these are great informal networking events providing the opportunity to meet other members as well as bring prospective members. Our councils have education programs planned which are open to all members. CE courses for general contractors are being offered September-November. If you are looking for marketing and networking opportunities…take advantage of the fall golf and skeet tournaments, as well as our annual Associates Expo. All sell out quickly…so don’t delay submitting your registration.
Our government affairs team, working with other TREBIC delegates, will be interviewing Greensboro City Council candidates and sharing their recommendations of candidates that understand and support our industry. This is a pivotal year for Greensboro’s leadership. Primary election day is October 7 with general election on November 4. Other Triad cities also have elections this year. As industry members we need to encourage our community to vote.
New this fall…we are combining our Fall Parade of Homes and Tour of Remodeled Homes …providing consumers the opportunity to tour both newly constructed and professionally renovated homes…October 4-5 & 11-12. Remodeled homes will be on tour the first weekend only. Special thanks to our participating builders, remodelers, sponsors and advertisers…your support provides us the opportunity to showcase our Association and its members.
NAHB celebrates October as Careers in Construction month. We will kick off the month with Oktoberfest, hosted and sponsored by Ferguson…and culminate the month with our Building for the Future Casino Night on October 30. This is the primary funding source for our Scholarship Endowment…and I would like to personally encourage you to support this initiative with a financial contribution as a sponsor or prize donor…as well as purchase tickets and attend this event. It is guaranteed to be a fun and worthwhile evening with 100% of the proceeds for our scholarship fund.
In November, we have builder members participating in a Hurricane Helene Rebuilding trip in Spruce Pine. A year later…there is still much work to be done to get families back into homes in western North Carolina. If you would like to participate as we frame 2-3 homes… with material or financial donations…please let us know.
As you will see in this issue and on our website…we have numerous ways to participate within the Builders Association. Don’t hesitate to reach out to any of our leadership team and/or staff for ways that we can help you make connections.
Associate Appreciation
September is Associate Member Appreciation month – an annual celebration of Associate members for their contributions to the building industry. Associates are our suppliers, trade contractors, service providers and product manufacturers – a vital component of the building industry and our Association. We value your dedication and participation year-round…and look forward to celebrating you throughout the month.
First Wednesday Celebration
Plan to join us as we kick off the celebration with our First Wednesday Member Connections on Wednesday, September 3 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm hosted and sponsored by MI-BOX Mobile Storage. Ghassan’s food truck will be onsite… beverages will be provided. Bring your business card for admission and special drawings. There is no charge to attend…but we do ask that you RSVP by September 1.

Continuing Education for General Contractors
Registration is underway…we have six days of approved CE courses scheduled September-November and encourage you to take your required CE with us...discounted pricing for members. You have the option of registering for a full day (8 hours) or select different dates for morning and/or afternoon sessions. We offer a variety of topics for the electives, including several NC Builder Institute (NCBI) courses, which can apply toward Accredited Builder or Accredited Master Builder designations.
Courses are offered virtually via Zoom. We are offering courses on the following dates:

PARADE of HOMES
GBA members will be returning to Spruce Pine the first week in November to assist with framing and drying in 2-3 homes. Registration opens September 2 for the 2026 NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) to be held February 17-19 in Orlando.

Workforce Development Coordinator
Join us in welcoming Ginger Cromer as our new Workforce Development Coordinator. Ginger will be helping coordinate our workforce development initiatives, providing support to our Construction Careers, Scholarship, Endowment and Casino Night committees. Ginger brings more than 20 years of experience working in education. We are excited to have her join our team.
Education & Industry Partnership
Our Construction Careers committee has members serving as liaisons with Guilford County Schools, GTCC and NC A&T State University student chapter. Industry members are needed to visit classrooms; host students to job sites; participate in Career Fairs; and mentor students. We are in the process of compiling a database of members who would be interested in helping…let us know if we can add your name to this list. Our goal is to work with students and adults to build a greater awareness of careers in construction along with the needs and opportunities available today.
Casino Night
This year’s Building for the Future Casino Night will be held Thursday, October 30 . This annual fund-raising event supports our Construction Careers Scholarship Endowment with 100% proceeds going into the Endowment…providing a sustainable resource for students and adults pursuing skilled trades training and careers within the building industry.
Sponsorships: Join us as a presenting sponsor…we have sponsorship opportunities ranging from $1,250 to $10,000. Your sponsorship helps build career pathways for the construction trades. Sponsorships include Casino Night tickets…along with annual recognition on our website.
Prize Donations: Members are asked to donate prizes for the raffle drawing at the end of the evening. Prize donations are requested to be $500+ value. Suggestions include vacation getaways, sporting events and/or concert tickets, certificates for product and services.
All sponsorship and prize donations are requested by September 24 to be included in event marketing including website, social media, Member News emails, signage at the event, and in the Builder Update magazine. Sponsor and ticket registration forms can be found on the website.
