Meet Autumn and her two sons. After experiencing domestic violence, they were forced to leave everything behind and start over with nothing but the hope of a safer future. When they moved into their new apartment, Autumn remembers standing in the doorway feeling grateful for safety, yet overwhelmed by what was missing. The rooms were empty. There were no beds for her children, no table to gather around.
“They didn’t just deliver furniture,” Autumn shares.
“They delivered hope.”
Through The Green Chair Project, Autumn’s family received beds and essential furnishings that transformed their apartment overnight. Her sons slept in real beds for the first time in their new home, and they shared meals together at a table. The simple presence of furniture restored dignity and stability, allowing Autumn to focus on moving her family forward.
“For the first time in a long time, our space felt like home,” she says.
Autumn’s story reflects the heart of our mission. By providing beds and essential furniture to families overcoming crisis and housing instability, we are not just furnishing rooms. We are helping build a foundation for lasting stability in Wake County.
At The Green Chair Project, we believe lives change when individuals and families have the security of well-equipped homes. Thanks to your generosity–our amazing donors, partners, volunteers, and sta –we made an enormous impact in 2025. Your support provided:
• 1,364 children with a bed of their own
• 1,142 households with the essential furnishings needed to make a house a home
The impact of your support extends far beyond these numbers. Our data show that 92% of families remain stably housed a year after receiving services, and 96% were able to save money for other critical financial needs–breaking cycles of financial instability. For many of the children we serve, a Sweeter Dreams bed means no longer sleeping on floors, sofas, or sharing sleep spaces with others.
As we enter our 16th year of service, the need in our community continues to grow. With more than 105,000 people in Wake County living below the poverty line, we remain focused on securing new sources of funding, expanding community initiatives with partners, and managing with excellence. These e orts will enable us to increase our impact and serve more families who urgently need our help.
We are deeply grateful to have you on this journey with us.
Thank you for continuing to support our mission and for believing in the power of home.
In gratitude,
Rae Marie Czuhai, Chief Executive O cer

Volunteers
In 2025, our incredible volunteers gave more than 10,241 hours of their time, talent, and compassion to The Green Chair Project. From our dedicated home volunteers who show up week after week, to the 60+ volunteer groups who supported us throughout the year, these committed community members are truly the heart of our work—sorting donations, staging furniture, assembling beds, and ensuring every family we serve receives a thoughtfully curated Essentials for Home package that transforms a house into a home. Our volunteers don't just give their time; they become part of our community. Brittany Major first volunteered with us in July 2024 through SHE Women's Ministry. Just months later, she lost her home to a devastating house fire. The Green Chair Project was honored to help her get back on her feet with a complete furniture and furnishing package. What touched her most? A box of Christmas ornaments and decor that came with her furniture—small details that meant everything to her family during an incredibly di cult time. True to her generous spirit, Brittany returned to volunteer with us again in June of 2025, expressing deep gratitude for the hope and thoughtfulness that The Green Chair Project provides its clients.

How We Serve
We provide individuals and families with the household furnishings and essential home items they need to create a comfortable and nurturing environment through three cornerstone programs:
Essentials for Home
Individuals and families choose from carefully coordinated household packages – furniture, decor, and bath and kitchen wares – giving them the dignity of a true shopping experience.
Sweeter Dreams
With 1 in 30 Wake County Public School students lacking a bed of their own, we help ensure the benefits of a good night’s sleep with a bed, pillow, sheets and comforter.
Shop for Good
Not all our essential furnishing and bedding needs can be met solely through donations.
To fill the gap, we sell donated items that are eclectic, unique, or highly sought-after through on-line and in-person shopping venues.

Your furniture gives families the essentials they need to start fresh. Your financial gifts help us fulfill our mission to make a meaningful di erence in the lives of those overcoming hardship. Your volunteer hours bring compassion and care to every family we serve.
