Electric vehicles don’t only help to cut carbon and improve air quality, they have much lower running costs than conventional cars, making them cheaper overall to own than new petrol and diesel cars. But, at present, most electric vehicles are owned by wealthier people and low income households are not able to benefit.
This report, based on analysis by Element Energy, shows that greater availability of used electric vehicles is the route to wider uptake. But growth in the second hand market relies on more new sales. We present four measures the UK should apply to ensure that those on lower incomes can benefit sooner from electric transport.
