To everyone’s horror and disgust it has been revealed that Oedipus, the once beloved king, is actually the child of Laius and Jocasta, thus meaning that he had wed his own mother! Not only this, but it was also discovered that Oedipus murdered our previous king, and his father, Laius! It is these unholy and treasonous acts which has resulted in Thebes’s many misfortunes, including the terrible plague which we have been facing! As a result of learning this information, Jocasta, the queen of Thebes, has hung herself in shame and misery!
Not only this, but in a rage, Oedipus blinded himself once he discovered his mothers body, using the very brooches holding her robes. He was in a desperate rage when he happened upon Jocasta’s lifeless body, screaming for a sword, and some report to have heard shattering cries from the citadel.
This horrifying reveal of information has left Thebes in shock and outrage, as the very man who had been promising to find the murderer of Laius was indeed the very man who had committed the treasonous act in the first place. As punishment, Oedipus is to be immediately exiled from Thebes. The community will struggle to recover from this shock, and everyone is anxious to see who will next seize the throne after Oedipus’s disastrous presence.

THE QUEEN IS DEAD!
As soon as Jocasta discovered that she had wed her own son, Oedipus, she rushed into her room, aghast with horror and shame. She was not found until Oedipus rushed into the room, bursting with rage. It was found that she had hung herself, presumably due to the immense shame she had brought to herself by not only wedding her son, but also the murderer of her previous husband!
When Oedipus found her, body still swaying, a low, wrenching cry was heard, lasting for an unruly amount of time. He gently lowered her lifeless body, embracing it. Not to be outdone, Oedipus then removed the brooches holding his mothers robes, and used them to gruesomely blind himself. Although a tragic ending, it seems deserving of the actions which lead to these events.
It was a bloody scene, fueled by grief and disgust. We only hope that this is the end of these horrors, and that the plagues may vanish, returning Thebes to its prosperous state before Oedipus ever walked this Earth.
As consequence for this treacherous string of events, Oedipus is to be exiled, hopefully riding Thebes from the great misfortune and misery which he brought to us.

OEDIPUS: WHERE DID HE GO WRONG?
Oedipus has been doomed for almost his entire life, prophesized to kill his father ever since he was an infant. This unfortunate prophecy was likely the result of Laius being cursed by Pelops, as punishment for raping and kidnapping his son, Chrysippus.
Once Laius heard of this ghastly prophecy, he had to be rid of the child, and a servant was told to kill the child. This, however, did not go to plan, as the servant was unable to go through with it, instead deciding upon exposing Oedipus as a means of killing him.
However, this failed miserably, as he was found by a shepherd and given to king Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth, who raised him as their own.

Eventually, Oedipus sought out the oracle, where he was told the he was destined to kill his father and marry his mother. Thus, he left Corinth, desperate to distance himself from his adoptive parents, whom he thought where his true parents. Tragically, it is this very action which lead to Oedipus coming across his real father, Laius, during his travels where Oedipus proceeded to kill him in a burst of road rage.
After this encounter Oedipus’s luck started to turn, although short lived, as he successfully defeated the Sphynx, using his superior intellect to answer her riddle. Unfortunately, it was this victory which lead to Oedipus being wed to the queen of Thebes, and his mother, as a reward. They had four children together and everything was going well until the incestuous nature of their relationship was revealed to both them and the public.
Despite everyone's best efforts, Oedipus inevitably killed his father and married his mother, fulfilling the prophecy.
