Chamber members join forces to make a
On any given day, you might find Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber members collecting nonperishable items for those in need, volunteering at charitable events or engaging in other acts of kindness that make a big difference in the community. It’s all part of Chamber Cares, presented by Custom Cleaning and Maintenance, a program created in 2023 to encourage giving back to the community.
“It directly supports the WWLCC vision to foster a community where businesses and residents are proud to work, live and play,” says Chamber Cares Committee Chair Heather Fresenko, who serves as human resources manager at Silco Inc. “It’s a shared commitment among our board members, our Chamber Cares committee and also local businesses in the community.”
In addition to annual initiatives like partnering with United way of Lake County for its Day of Caring and collecting items for food drives, Fresenko hopes to introduce some new events for 2026, including a blood drive.
“Our members consistently show a strong desire to make a difference, and the Chamber Cares platform provides that channel and that spirit of service into meaningful action that ends up benefiting the whole community,” she says.

Whether you’re interested in exploring the great outdoors, experiencing the joy of a local theater production or simply savoring a gourmet meal in a beautiful setting, Western Lake County offers something to discover around every corner
“Western Lake County is unique because it’s densely populated, it’s got a lot of city centers like Downtown Willoughby, which is a huge hub for local shopping and restaurants, and there’s the Lake Metroparks to explore,” says Neil Stein, executive director of Tour Lake County. “There are also people who live there from all walks of the world.”
We’ve mapped out a day that highlights the best of Willoughby/ Western Lake County’s Chamber organizations. Let’s hit the road!
LAKE METROPARKS
Start your day off on the right foot with a hike through one of the 40 Lake Metroparks sites.
The park system features 60-plus miles of trails, access to Lake Erie and 10,000 acres of shoreline, forests, wetlands, rivers and farmland.
“Each year, more than 4 million visitors enjoy clean, safe parks with opportunities for hiking, biking, birding, fishing, boating, golfing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and more,” says Sharon Metzung, chief of marketing, Lake Metroparks.
While each park offers something a little different, here are a few highlights:
At Lake Erie Bluffs, a 50-foot observation tower and winding trails provide stunning lake views and wildlife sightings.
Indian Point Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, invites exploration of its archaeological features.
Chapin Forest Reservation offers a striking overlook and a cross-country ski center.
Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park includes a sandy beach that shines in the summer months.
Hidden Lake provides a quiet retreat with a fishing spot and an archery range.
Lake Metroparks Farmpark encompasses hands-on activities, seasonal events and friendly animals that bring the working farm to life.
Penitentiary Glen Reservation offers scenic trails through lush woodlands, a nature center with interactive exhibits, a wildlife rehabilitation center and a nature play area for hands-on exploration.
Jordan Creek Park features an environmental learning center and an adventure play area with rope courses and climbing structures.
“No matter your interests, any one of these parks can make for a full, memorable day,” Metzung says.

Now that you’ve got your fill of the outdoors, take a stroll through the labyrinth that is Antiques & Uniques, a 24,000-squarefoot retail space where you can find anything from sculptures to vintage clothing to furniture, according to owner Robert Berges.
“You never know what you’re going to find,” Berges says. “We’re offering an experience that’s different from any thrift shop or flea market.”
Staffed by knowledgeable resellers, Antiques & Uniques offers a curated selection of goods that have been thoroughly vetted and cleaned.
With nearly 100 dealers’ booths to peruse, Antiques & Uniques offers a fun way to get lost in the aisles and find that special item you didn’t know you needed (like limitedrelease bobbleheads).
“All the dealers have their own unique specialty, and we all take pride in having an active customer relationship,” Berges says.

FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION
Take a load off and catch a show at the Fine Arts Association, a 65-year-old community arts organization that offers classes in all artistic disciplines, live music performances and community theater productions.
“There’s nothing better than a community that’s empowered by the arts,” says David Malinowski, Roger and Anne Clapp Chair of Performing Arts, director and actor at the Fine Arts Association. “The arts go much farther than just creating a piece of music, painting a piece of ceramic or even a theater performance. The arts have so much more to offer than just the physical thing you’re creating in that moment.”
This year, the Fine Arts Association will be putting on Jesus Christ Superstar, beginning March 13.
“That’s a perfect musical for families of all ages to come and enjoy,” Malinowski says.

WILLOUGHBY HOUSE/JULIA’S 1902
To wrap up your busy day, experience the mouthwatering eats at Julia’s 1902, which offers a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience.
Featuring locally sourced global flavors, Julia’s seasonal menu includes items like Wagyu skewers served with hoisin glaze, rocoto, pickled onions and mushroom dust; Anna’s tlayuda, which features avocado mousse, roasted tomatoes, radish, salsa macha, charred corn and microcilantro; and raw Royal Miyagi oysters, accompanied by cucumber mignonette, salmon caviar, horseradish and LP’s hot sauce.
“We partner with a number of nearby farms to deliver local dairy and produce each week,” says Cody Cook, hotel manager at The Willoughby House and Julia’s 1902.
Finally, rest your weary head next door at The Willoughby House, an enchanting boutique 10-room inn and event venue.
An establishment that’s served as a private residence, an infirmary and a nursing home over the years, Willoughby House was restored in 2024.
“A lot of effort was put into restoring and preserving the home’s original details, such as beautiful stained glass, hardwood floors, oriental rugs and period furniture,” Cook says. “There are very few properties like this that have as much love and devotion put into the restoration and furnishing.”
