INSIDER access

See Butler County through the eyes of  the Murphy family as they explore and enjoy new adventures.

Hi there! We’re the Murphy family: Richard, Kristen, and our two sons, Harrison and Chandler. We visited Butler County through Wheel the World and had a great time exploring together. Since Richard uses a power wheelchair full-time, accessibility is a big part of our travel experience. Butler County made it easy for all of us to enjoy the trip.

One of our favorite things was the Butler County Donut Trail. We loved trying different donut shops and finding our favorites. It was a fun way to kick off our visit and start the day with something sweet.

PICTURED: Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum, BOTTOM LEFT: Voice of America MetroPark, BOTTOM RIGHT: Jungle Jim’s International Market

We also spent time at Liberty Center, where the kids had fun in the splash pad. Chandler especially loved the outdoor ping-pong table. It was set up in a way that Richard could play with him, which made it extra special.

Another highlight was the Voice of America MetroPark. Our entire family got out on the water. Kristen took a pedal boat, while Richard, Harrison, and Chandler went kayaking. The accessible kayak launch made it easy and safe to get Richard in and out of the kayak, and everyone loved relaxing on the water. We also visited the Holiday Auto Theatre drive-in, where the kids got to experience a classic movie night. It was fun for all of us to enjoy a movie under the stars.

At Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum, we had a picnic and walked around to see the unique art pieces. It was beautiful, peaceful, and easy to get around.

Before we left, we made sure to stop at Jungle Jim’s International Market Chandler was all about the candy, and Harrison loved looking at all the different sodas. The whole store was full of fun surprises from around the world.

We’re so thankful for these experiences in Butler County. This trip gave us the chance to do so many things together as a family. We had a blast and can’t wait to come back!

Sorg Opera House (ROW 5)

The Sorg Opera House in Middletown first opened its doors in 1891. After a fire in 1935, the Sorg temporarily shut down but has since been revitalized and still hosts performances today.

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States at events and historic sites in Butler County.
